I remember my first driving lesson on major road
Dear old dad
My dad was my driving teacher. He thought he was a great 1______, and he was a
Sunday school teacher. So I sat in the driver’s seat while he showed me the
ropes. At 2____________ he told me to just coast so I could get the hang of
steering. That went fine. Once my foot was allowed on the accelerator, things went
downhill fast.
At one point I did not come 3________ a complete stop at a red 4________ while
making a right turn. After years of watching him drive this way, this is how I thought
it was done. Sure it's a red light, but what you do is slow down and check if there
are cars coming. No cars, no 5________ to stop completely, right? That's how he
drives! How 6___________ I supposed to know? Geez.
So, he yelled like a madman at me about that. It made such an impression
7_________ I still think about it at every red light I stop and turn at.
Then I went too slowly. Then I went too quickly. Then I didn't stop for a jaywalker.
(Hey, if you're gonna jaywalk you're gonna have to
pay the price, was my attitude at 17.) 8________
I was never really clear on how to gauge where the
car began and ended. Or how to tell if I was in the
center of the lane. I kept doing it wrong, and he had
no patience for my incompetence and we got home
angry after each lesson.
I still can't parallel park. 9_________ the time I was ready to learn how to park, we
were too fed up with each other. It never occurred to us to send me to a real
driving 10_____________. But somehow I passed the driving test on my first try.
