John Zupkus completed a co-op experience at J.C. Cannistraro where he learned that demand for construction work can fluctuate greatly over 5-10 years, good managers lead by example, and organization and reading plans are key to producing accurate estimates. He worked on a $3.3 million lab fit out project at Ariad Pharmaceuticals headquarters that included over 4 miles of pipe and various plumbing systems. He asked the team questions about whether Cannistraro worked on any federal stimulus projects in 2008-2009, which departments may be least affected when new construction declines, and if estimates could automatically incorporate quotes from vendors.
