Make-up and Hair Artist- Film and TV.
A make-up artist is an artist whose medium is the human body,
applying makeup and prosthetics for theatrical, television, film, and
other similar productions but can also major in hairstyling to create a
full change in image for the camera. A makeup and hair artist’s job is
to take care of actors and/or actresses, design portfolios for the way
they believe will look good on camera for different films or TV shows
and then create the image on the actor/actress that is concerned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
You would normally start by taking a specialist course in media
make-up and hairstyling, theatrical make-up and hairstyling or a
related subject. You would also need to get some practical
experience and start making contacts in the industry. You would
normally start in your career by gaining at least a Level 2 qualification
in media make-up or an equivalent qualification.
For example:
. Level 2 Diploma in Hair, Photographic and Media Make-up.
. Level 2/3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up.
. Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Make-up.
. Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Make-up.
2. Some universities offer foundation degrees and degrees in media
make-up and related subjects. To do a degree you will usually need
five GCSEs (A-C) including maths, English and science, plus three A-levels.
As well as taking a make-up and hairstyling course, getting
some practical experience could improve your career prospects.
For example you could get useful experience in:
