Jfk Inaugural Address
President John F. Kennedy, in his inaugural address on January 1961, suggests that the United States
must unify and act upon injustices in the country. He supports this claim by first calling out to
countries around the world, then speaking to the citizens of America and asking them to take action,
and finally by creating a sense of patriotism to help connect the people to their country. Because he is
the youngest president, Kennedy adopts a tone of excitement and energy for his younger audience,
but a tone of maturity and authority for his older audience members. Throughout his inaugural
address, Kennedy brings to light the lack of unity throughout the country and the world. He states
that "we are the heirs of that first revolution" (В¶4) that broke the countries apart, and that the
country that stood that day would unite against "those human rights" (В¶4) that were promised in
the founding of our nation. He connects to his audience by noting significant events in history that
everyone knows, such as the founding of our country or the revolutionary war, but that few people
truly live by. He awakens in his audience the yearning for connectedness to the birth of our country.
On the day he accepted his place as the leader of our country, Kennedy unified his citizens by
generating a feeling of...show more content...
Kennedy appealed emotionally to his audience by pleading that they help those around them and
unify the world in time. He built his authoritative figure stealthily, but as the youngest president to
date, that would be expected. Not only that, but he closes his address asking the citizens of "the
world" (В¶28) to hold him accountable to "the same high standards" (В¶28) to which he held his
citizens. Any leader willing to take advice from his subjects must be a great leader indeed, if only

Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" (JFK
429). He inspired Americans to take responsibility for themselves for improving the state of our
nation. John F. Kennedy sounded patriotic and spoke with honor in front of thousands of people.

Logos was used in JFK's speech by using logic. President John F. Kennedys main focus throughout
his speech was basically negotiating foreign affairs and policies. He said, "those who foolishly
sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside" (JFK 427). Kennedy used many facts
about the spread of communism throughout the world. President Kennedy also included many facts
about the cold war and the spread of communism in Russia. He wanted to create plans and
agreements with Russia as well. JFK said, "Let both sides, for the first time, formulate serious and
precise proposals for the inspection and control of arms – and bring the absolute power to destroy
other nations under the absolute control of all nations."(JFK 428). Kennedy feels that he should
bring nations together to create peace and he wants to get rid of communism that is occurring in
