This study used a mixed methods social network analysis (MMSNA) approach to understand doctoral students' social transition experiences. Data was collected through a social network survey (24 participants), interviews (14 participants), and reflective diaries (20 participants). The analysis identified three patterns of social engagement: "Community Builders" with many social ties who organized events; "Social Followers" with moderate ties who attended events; and "Social Ghosts" with few ties who felt isolated. Factors like physical spaces, supervisor expectations, and opportunities for socialization impacted students' experiences. This document discusses research on informal learning in self-organized social care networks in the UK. It provides examples of four types of networks that have emerged: 1) Friendship meetups that facilitate socializing and mutual support, 2) A "Good Neighbors" network that provides local support and activities, 3) A bookshop project that offers meaningful occupation and skills development, and 4) A disabled people's alliance that offers peer support and advocacy training. The research found that these networks foster informal, lifelong learning through peer-to-peer support and collective engagement to meet social care needs in the absence of formal state support.

Building Communities that Cares through Volunteerism
Volunteering for Development in Zimbabwe is a committee comprised of volunteer involving organizations focused on improving volunteerism in Zimbabwe. The committee's objectives include raising awareness of volunteerism, identifying best practices, facilitating dialogue on volunteerism, and promoting the International Volunteer Day. There are some common misconceptions about volunteerism, such as it only involving amateurs or being limited to formal NGOs, but volunteerism can take place anywhere and anyone can participate, including through online opportunities. The presentation provides information on how individuals can get involved in volunteer opportunities either locally within their community or through online global platforms.

Iona Joy, Head of charity team at NPC, presented on NPC's approach to measurement at the CSV conference in March 2015. NPC works at the nexus between charities and funders to increase the impact of both. NPC uses a four pillar approach to measuring impact that involves mapping a theory of change, prioritizing outcomes to measure, choosing an appropriate level of evidence, and selecting data sources and tools. An effective measurement framework is developed through this process to help charities strategically plan, deliver, assess, and review their impact.
SJA Mencap
This document discusses a 3-year pilot project commissioned by the Department of Health to improve healthcare access for people with learning disabilities. The project partners Mencap and 4 Clinical Commissioning Groups to provide training to GP practices on making reasonable adjustments. It involves 62 volunteers working with 72 practices across 4 pilot sites. The training covers learning disability awareness, communication, reasonable adjustments, and accessible information. Evaluation shows the training is well-received and effective in changing practice.
