Jesus the
Sympathizing
Savior
HEBREWS 4:14-16
The Old High priest
 We had a High Priest that could not sympathize with our
weakness.
 He was just a man. His understanding of me was limited.
 He was of an elite status. I am just another person.
The New High priest
 We had a High Priest that could not sympathize with my
weaknesses
 Can sympathize with me
 He was just a man. His understanding of me was limited.
 He has a perfect understanding of me (Luke12:7)
 He was of an elite status. I am just another person.
 He humbled himself by becoming just like me (Matt 13:54)
He can sympathize with
 Those that have lost loved ones
 He loses people everyday spiritually
 The Father watched His Son die on the cross
 Jesus lost Lazarus (John 11: 3-35)
 The lonely
 John 6:60-67
 The sorrowful
 Matt. 26: 36-40
He can sympathize with
 The Hated
 John 15:18 – “If the world hates you, you know
that it hated Me before it hated you.”
 NIV – “"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it
hated me first.”
He can sympathize with
 The Sinner
 Heb. 5:1-3 “For every high priest taken from among
men is appointed for men in things pertaining to
God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for
sins. 2 He can have compassion on those who are
ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also
subject to weakness. 3 Because of this he is required
as for the people, so also for himself, to
offer sacrifices for sins”

Jesus the Sympathizing Savior
