Jesus was a Muslim according to the document. It states that millions of people believe this and recent New Testament scholarship suggests it. The document aims to prove from the earliest Gospel verses that the reported sayings of Jesus are entirely compatible with Islam. It discusses how studying the reconstructed earliest Gospel text known as Q led the author to conclude that Jesus was calling his followers to Islam.

R E v o L u T1 o N A ry or pacifist ? Jewish scholar, or liberator from the Law? For two thousand years few subjects have provoked more controversy than the life of the blessed Messiah of Nazareth. In our own time, discoveries such as the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Gospels, and the still unresolved mystery of the Shroud of Turin, have made the debate more lively and more fascinating than everbefore.
In this book, a leading British Muslim scholar examines the most recent research and its implications for Jesus scholarship and for the churches, as they seek to reinterpret Jesus for the new age. Her conclusions are that the historical Jesus emerges as a figure far more glorious than the Christ defined in the formulas of medieval Christianity', which were influenced heavily by Greek philosophy and mystery religions whose beliefs hold little appeal for the modern mind. Ideas once blasted as'heresies’ now seem to have preserved the authentic teachings of the Galilean more fullv than the official orthodoxies. Maqsood shows that the Jesus who is now being reclaimed in this way is a figure who is not a stumbling-block to dialogue, but can be affirmed by Jews and Muslims, as well as by Christians anxious to uphold historicallv credible accounts of the saintly figure at the centre oftheir faith.
Few Muslims have meditated deeply on Christian origins. This groundbreaking book shows how modern Christian and Muslim scholarship is drawing together, bringing hope of future reconciliation and dialogue between the two largest world faiths.

of His coming again, He shall find the idea

in it one of the sorrows of Jesus.

in his objective study of the texts, Maurice Bucaille clears away many preconceived ideas about the Old Testament, the Gospels and the Qur'an. He tries, in this collection of Writings, to separate what belongs to Revelation from what is the product of error or human interpretation. His study sheds new light on the Holy Scriptures. At the end of a gripping account, he places the Believer before a point of cardinal importance: the continuity of a Revelation emanating from the same God, with modes of expression that differ in the course of time. It leads us to meditate upon those factors which, in our day, should spiritually unite rather than divide-Jews, Christians and Muslims.
As a surgeon, Maurice Bucaille has often been in a situation where he was able to examine not only people's bodies, but their souls. This is how he was struck by the existence of Muslim piety and by aspects of Islam which remain unknown to the vast majority of non-Muslims. In his search for explanations which are otherwise difficult to obtain, he learnt Arabic and studied the Qur'an. In it, he was surprised to find statements on natural phenomena whose meaning can only be understood through modern scientific knowledge. He then turned to the question of the authenticity of the writings that constitute the Holy Scriptures of the monotheistic religions. Finally, in the case of the Bible, he proceeded to a confrontation between these writings and scientific data. The results of his research into the Judeo-Christian Revelation and the Qur'an are set out in this book.

The document discusses Jesus' status and portrayal in the Quran and Islam. It notes that Jesus is mentioned more times in the Quran than Muhammad and is given many honorable titles. It highlights how Muslims are commanded to respect Jesus and speak of him with reverence. The story of Mary and her dedication of Jesus to temple service is recounted, and it is emphasized that the Quran's account could not have been fabricated by Muhammad as an "unlettered" man, given how it honors figures like Mary who Muslims had no reason to revere at the time.
THE CRUCIFIX – A POWERFUL SYMBOL ... EVEN FOR MODERN DAY UNITARIANSDr Ian Ellis-Jones
This document discusses the symbolism and meaning of the crucifix for modern Unitarians. It provides perspectives from various Christian traditions that see the crucifixion of Jesus as representing self-sacrifice and calling believers to follow that example. The document also discusses esoteric interpretations of Jesus' life events as archetypes for spiritual development, and views Jesus as providing a way to be freed from selfishness and reunited with the divine. Overall, the crucifix is presented as a powerful symbol of sacrificial love that still resonates today.

This document introduces a book titled "Muslim Christian Dialogue" by Dr. Hasan M. Baagil. It discusses the increasing dialogue between Muslims and Christians in recent decades as their populations have come into more contact with one another. The introduction notes that Dr. Baagil's book is the result of his careful study of Christianity and the Bible over many years as a dedicated Muslim. His conversations with Christian clergy and laity provided the impetus for this dialogue on their differing beliefs. The book aims to clarify Islamic views and correct errors that crept into the message Jesus brought according to the Quran. It hopes to be a valuable asset for both Muslims and Christians in their discussions between the two faiths.
This document provides an introduction and explanation from a former Christian preacher who has converted to Islam. It discusses his purpose in examining the Bible from an Islamic perspective. Some key points:
- The author was previously a Christian preacher but found errors and inconsistencies in Bible translations that must be examined to improve understanding for Christians and Muslims.
- As a religious leader, the author's goal is not to cause people to lose faith but to have respectful discussions and share information in a positive way.
- An examination of the Bible is needed due to questions about inconsistencies within the Bible and with modern teachings. There are thousands of Bible versions and the original is no longer extant.

The pastor argues that Jesus Christ cannot be bound by human ideas or institutions. The resurrection shows that Jesus is Lord of all people, not just one group. Jesus is calling believers out of religious bondage and into new life. Jesus accepts people of every nation and is not limited by human categories, as shown when he saved the Gentile Cornelius despite Peter's objections. Christ's resurrection power cannot be contained by any church, theology, or political group. Jesus is Lord of all.
The document discusses evidence that Jesus was considered a rabbi during his time in 1st century Judea. It provides biblical passages where Jesus is referred to as "Rabbi" and discusses the role of rabbis in Jewish society at that time. Rabbis were respected teachers who traveled between communities, gathering disciples to instruct informally on Jewish scripture and tradition. The document concludes that while Jesus would not be defined as a rabbi today, the term was used more broadly during his lifetime to refer to any respected Jewish teacher, a category Jesus fell into.
This document describes the author's journey from Catholicism to Islam. It details how he was deeply devoted to Jesus as a child but had questions about Christian doctrines like the crucifixion. As a teenager, he was influenced by paranormal experiences. When he witnessed Christians stealing, it further shook his faith. This led him to seek answers in Islam, where he found monotheism and teachings consistent with the original messages of Jesus and other prophets.
This document provides context for the book "Let the Bible Speak" by Ali Muhsin. It discusses why the Dammam Islamic Dawah and Guidance Center decided to reprint the book after noticing issues with the original copy. It describes corrections made such as adding missing references and fixing misspellings. The author acknowledges those who helped with the project and influenced his study of Christianity and the Bible. The preface explains the goal is to enlighten both Christians and Muslims about each other's faiths in hopes of fostering unity.
Francis Schaeffer argues that evangelicals must take truth seriously and preach and practice biblical truth, even when it is costly. He makes three main points:
1. Evangelicals must accept and preach propositional biblical truth rather than viewing religious truth as only psychological. They must take a stand for truth and against what contradicts God's word.
2. Evangelicals must carefully consider the purity of the visible church and what church discipline and living according to doctrine means.
3. If evangelicals practice "latitudinarianism" or compromise central truths, they will lose credibility with a skeptical world that does not believe truth is possible. They must practice what they preach about truth.
Jesus was a master teacher who taught with authority. He was recognized as a teacher and his followers were described as pupils. He was well-versed in scripture and understood human nature. Jesus used various teaching methods including questions, parables, lectures, assignments, and objects to effectively teach profound truths in a simple way. His goal was to convert pupils, bring harmony, form ideals, deepen convictions, and train disciples to spread his teachings.
This document summarizes some of the main Christian doctrines and then examines them in light of the Bible. It outlines seven key doctrines: 1) the existence of one God, 2) the Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, 3) Jesus as the second person of the Trinity who was born of a virgin, died on the cross as a sacrifice for sins, and rose from the dead, 4) original sin inherited from Adam, 5) baptism as a rite of acceptance into the church, 6) the Bible as the authoritative word of God, and 7) the division of the Bible into the Old and New Testaments. The document then scrutinizes these doctrines using the Bible to determine their
This document discusses the costs and sacrifices of being a Christian disciple through quotes from Dietrich Bonhoeffer and stories of early Christian martyrs. It challenges readers to consider what trials they suffer for their faith and whether they are willing to pay the full cost of discipleship, which Jesus warned includes renouncing all possessions and comforts. The document suggests many modern Christians fail to understand this challenge and question their faith when faced with difficulties rather than seeing trials as opportunities to prove their faithfulness to God.

The document summarizes the origins and teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses. It describes how Charles Taze Russell founded the movement in the late 19th century based on his own interpretations of the Bible despite having little formal theological education. It notes that Russell's teachings deviated from mainstream Christianity and were controversial. The movement continued developing new doctrines under subsequent leaders like Joseph Rutherford. The document argues that Jehovah's Witnesses' teachings stem from misinterpretations of scripture and lack understanding of key biblical concepts like the relationship between God and Jesus.
This is a study of Jesus as innovative and that this is a key factor in successful leadership. Christian leaders are ever seeking to be innovative to be relevant in this age.
This document provides an overview and introduction to studying the Bible. It emphasizes that one must be born again and follow Christ's teachings in order to truly understand and study the Bible. It warns about false teachings and criticisms of the Bible that have arisen. It encourages readers to study the King James Bible for themselves rather than relying on modern scholars, seminaries, or other materials it sees as untrustworthy or corrupted. The document is intended as a starting point and overview for biblical scholarship based on the King James Version.

The document discusses lessons learned from challenge prizes like the Big Green Challenge, which awarded £1 million for community-led responses to climate change. It provided a staged process for applicants and focused on outcomes over activities. Key lessons included rewarding outcomes not just activity, financial incentives aren't everything, and asking the right questions is important to tackle complex social issues. The document also discusses factors like prize scale, eligibility, and how to better measure outcomes of challenge prizes.
The document outlines an agenda for a global tour of social innovation. It lists the moderator and various participants divided into five groups based on region. The groups include representatives from organizations in Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Australasia. The agenda also includes discussions on methods and tools for social innovation led by Robin Murray, Julie Caulier-Grice, and Geoff Mulgan as well as presentations from Won Soon Park of The Hope Institute and Andrew Wolk of Root Cause Foundation.

The virgin and the priest The making of the Messiah by Mark GibbsFeliksch
The document provides an overview and preface to the book "The Virgin and The Priest: The Making of The Messiah" by Mark Gibbs. It discusses how the book aims to provide context for Jesus' life by identifying his biological parents, using logic and references from historical texts rather than relying on theological claims of divinity. The preface notes how knowledge of Jesus' father was suppressed but was key to an influential subversive tradition depicted in Renaissance art. It aims to shed light on a neglected area of study regarding John the Baptist and his role in Jesus' life.

While Christianity and Islam have existed for over a thousand years each, more direct discussions are recent. The Muslim notes some differences between the religions but also areas of commonality, and discusses how Abraham could not have been considered a Jew. The Christian is surprised by this claim and the Muslim guides them to relevant Bible passages to support the point.
THESE various scriptures of the New Test
ament have obvious bearing on the
question which I propose to discuss,
namely : How far the apostolic interpretation
of Christ is trustworthy and authoritative?
It is conceded at the start that whatever
Christ Himself clearly taught is authoritative.
He is the light of the world. He is the great
divine Teacher; the supreme Personality
among the many master minds that have
spoken with authority.
The temptation to introduce "new" things into the work of God has always been too strong for some people to resist... Today this trend has accelerated beyond recognition despite A.W. Tozer's warning. Christians should be spiritually awakened so as to discern God’s original ways from man-made false ways in every area of Christianity.
The sermon discusses how Albert Einstein envisioned a "cosmic religion of the future" that avoids dogma and sees the natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. It then provides examples of life-changing spiritual experiences in three individuals - St. Paul, John Newton who wrote "Amazing Grace," and scientist Francis Collins. Collins describes how reading C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity" changed his view from militant atheism to belief in God after considering arguments for morality and design in the universe. The sermon advocates being prepared to share one's spiritual beliefs gently and respectfully like the Methodist pastor who listened to Collins' doubts.
Messiah in the old testament in the light of rabbinical rabbistorahteachers
This document provides an introduction and table of contents to a book about the Messiah in the Old Testament in light of Rabbinical writings. The introduction discusses the importance of studying the roots of Christianity in the Old and New Testaments, as well as exploring the "mystery of Christ" through ancient Jewish documents and thought patterns. It notes that exploring these roots can help bring understanding between Christianity and Judaism. The table of contents then outlines the various chapters and topics that will be covered in the book, including discussions of the Messiah in the Pentateuch, Psalms, Prophets, and more.
The gnosis or_ancient_wisdom_in_the_christian_sculptures-william_kingsland-19...RareBooksnRecords
This document is an introduction written by William Kingsland for his book "The Gnosis or Ancient Wisdom in the Christian Scriptures." In it, he explains that the book is intended for readers who are dissatisfied with traditional Christianity but see a deeper spiritual truth in the Christian scriptures. He argues that the scriptures originally contained an esoteric gnosis or ancient wisdom teaching, but this has been obscured over time. The introduction provides context on gnosticism and outlines Kingsland's intention to reveal how the gnosis is still present in the scriptures, despite being overlaid with human doctrines.
Jesus outside the new testament; an introduction to the ancient evidence stud...Fabiano Dantas
This document discusses studying Jesus outside the New Testament. It was once thought Jesus could not be known historically or that such knowledge was not important for faith. However, over the past 20 years scholarship has made progress. Archaeological discoveries and studies of Jewish and Greco-Roman literature have provided new context. Jesus can now be understood historically and must be assessed to explain the period he lived in. Sources outside the New Testament, like classical and Jewish writings, shed light on Jesus, though they do not replace the Gospels. Studying these sources contributes to understanding Jesus and the development of early Christianity.
oneness of god (the ultimate solution to the trinitarian controversy)obl97
This book traces the historical backgroundof the Trinitarian doctrine. The
historical facts presented here show howcontroversial this fundamental doctrine of
Christianity has been. This booklikewise digs into the influences of Athanasius,
Constantine and Paul on today'sChristianity. Furthermore, it presents the concept of One
God in Islam as theultimate, perpetual solution to the Trinitarian controversy.
This work should serve as an eye-opener for Christians who seek guidance andTruth,
hoping that it will help them revert to the original teachings of Jesus(peace be upon him)
- particularly the belief in One God, which is fundamentallyIslamic. The mysterious
nature of the Trinitarian doctrine has led manyChristians into confusion. Many of them
who really seek Truth discovered thatthis doctrine was an explicit innovation contrary to
the teachings of Jesus(peace be upon him). Those of them who have had the opportunity
to study theconcept of God in Islam have already become Muslims. As many more non-
Muslims(especially Christians) are reverting to the path of Allah (the One and OnlyTrue
God), Islam will certainly sustain its current position as the world'sfastest growing and
Number One religion - although it is 600 years younger thanChristianity. This will be so,
because the Unity of God in Islam is absolutelyunquestionable - a divine concept that was
professed by all the prophets, including Adam, Noah. Abraham, Moses, David. Jesus, and
Muhammad (peace be uponthem all).
As for the rest of Christians who still blindlyadhere to the Trinitarian doctrine, the time is
ripe for them to open theirminds to the fundamental Truth that verily there is no god
worthy to beworshipped, except the One and Only True God, Allah.
The document contains several Islamic quotes from the Quran about patience, trusting in Allah, and kindness towards parents. It encourages believers to seek help through patience and prayer, as Allah is with the patient. It notes that Allah does not burden a soul beyond its ability to bear hardship. The document also states that Allah loves those who put their trust in Him and instructs believers to treat parents and relatives with kindness.
The document discusses Ramadan and wishes for blessings during the holy month. It notes that Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed, providing guidance and judgment. It includes passages from the Quran and wishes for blessings from Allah, a blessed Ramadan, happiness and peace in homes.
A collection of Islamic Supplications- DuasXenia Y
The document discusses the growing popularity of plant-based meat alternatives and how companies are working to perfect the taste and texture of meatless burgers, sausages and chicken nuggets. Several food companies are investing heavily in plant-based meat research and development in order to make their products indistinguishable from animal meat. Consumers are increasingly choosing meat alternatives for health, environmental or ethical reasons, driving demand and innovation in the rapidly growing alternative meat market.

The document discusses the six essential Islamic declarations of faith, or "Kalimahs". It provides the Arabic text and English translation for each Kalimah, which are: 1) the Kalimah of Purity, 2) the Kalimah of Testimony, 3) the Kalimah of Glorification, 4) the Kalimah of Unification, 5) the Kalimah of Penitence, and 6) the Kalimah of Rejection of Disbelief. Each Kalimah affirms a fundamental tenet of Islam.
God created the heavens and the earth in six days. On the sixth day, God created man and woman. God rested on the seventh day and blessed the Sabbath day.
The document is a long string of blank lines with no substantive information. It does not contain any words, sentences, or meaningful content that could be summarized.
Top 5 reasons why jesus is not the begotten son of godXenia Y
The document provides 5 reasons why Jesus is not the begotten son of God according to the author. Number 5 argues that the word "begotten" implies sexual procreation which Christians do not believe occurred between God and Mary. Number 4 says the doctrine was established at the Council of Nicaea and was criticized. Number 3 notes another figure, David, was called God's begotten son in the Bible before Jesus. Number 2 examines inconsistencies in translating the Greek word "Mono-genes". And number 1 encourages readers to consult modern Bible translations that have removed references to Jesus being the only begotten son.
Top 5 reasons Jesus(as) is not the begotten son of god. 1Xenia Y
This document outlines 5 reasons why Jesus is not the begotten son of God according to certain theological perspectives. Reason 1 argues that the term "begotten" implies procreation which cannot apply to God. Reason 2 states the doctrine was developed at the Council of Nicaea and was criticized. Reason 3 notes another biblical figure was called God's begotten son. Reason 4 argues inconsistencies in translation of key terms. Reason 5 questions how Jesus can be both eternal and God's son. The document urges readers to search for truth and not follow beliefs blindly.
Top ten reasons why the trinity is invalid (1)Xenia Y
This document outlines 10 reasons why the Christian doctrine of the Trinity is invalid. It argues that the Trinity was not mentioned in the Bible and was formulated over 200 years after Jesus by church leaders. Several prominent theologians and biblical references are cited stating there is no evidence of a Trinity in the original teachings and texts. Key verses used to support the Trinity, such as John 5:7-8 and Matthew 28:19, are analyzed and argued to not actually provide evidence for a three-in-one Godhead. The document concludes that a careful analysis of the Bible finds no legitimate evidence or support for the Trinity.
The rights of Allah and the rights of His CreationXenia Y
The document discusses the rights of Allah and His worshippers. It states that Allah's right is to be worshipped without associating anything with Him, while the worshipper's right is that Allah will not punish those who do not associate partners with Him. It then defines different types of worship (ibaadah) and categories of shirk (associating partners with Allah), including major shirk, minor shirk, shirk of belief, action, speech, and legislation. It notes the conditions for deeds to be accepted is sincerity and according to the Prophet's guidance.
The document discusses what the Qur'an says about various topics. It is the first part of a series examining teachings from the Islamic holy book. The Qur'an contains guidance for Muslims and addresses subjects like worship, ethics, social order, sharia law, and the relationship between humanity and God.
The document provides tips for improving husband and wife relationships by advising couples to treat each other with kindness, respect, and as partners rather than adversaries. It cautions against abuse, humiliation, and tyrannical behavior, noting relationships should be characterized by love, mercy, and tranquility as described in the Quran. The tips encourage open communication, shared decision-making, appreciation, spending quality time together, and always treating one's spouse as one wishes to be treated.

Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.

Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.

Jesus the Muslim
1. Jesus The Muslim
Jesus, peace be upon him, was a Muslim.
It's what millions of people believe.
It's what the best New Testament scholarship now suggests.
In the name of God, the
We hear a great deal today about a “war,”
Compassionate, the Merciful
“conflict,” or “clash” between Islam and
Christianity. The topic is so prominent in the
media that many people assume that there is
something irreconcilable between these two
approaches to God. It is not surprising, then, that
so many Christians of good will have concluded
that Islam and Christianity are fundamentally
incompatible.Yet, if, by “Christianity,” we mean
“that which Jesus Christ (pbuh) meant to convey
to his hearers,” I believe that these people of
good will are mistaken when they tell us that
Islam is incompatible with Christianity.
What's more, I believe we can now prove that the
historically oldest Gospel verses reflecting the
reported sayings of Jesus (pbuh) are entirely
compatible with Islam.
A WAVE OF CONVERSIONS
If you are a Christian, the idea that Jesus (pbuh)
practiced the same faith that today‟s news
broadcasts hold responsible for so many of the
world‟s problems may seem far-fetched to you. It
seemed far-fetched to me when I first
encountered it, before I consulted the Gospels
closely. Yet you should know that many, many
contemporary Christians have reached life-
changing personal conclusions about the Gospel
message and its relation to Islam.
2. “There is compelling anecdotal evidence of a
surge in conversions to Islam since September 11,
not just in Britain, but across Europe and America.
One Dutch Islamic centre claims a tenfold
increase, while the New Muslims Project, based in
Leicester and run by a former Irish Roman
Catholic housewife, reports a steady stream of
new converts." (London Times, January 7, 2002.)
MAINSTREAM MEDIA IGNORES US
The Western news media only rarely shares the
stories of these individual converts to Islam with
the world at large, but I strongly suspect that
most of these people -- if they are like me --
found themselves, at the end of the day,
concerned about the consequences of calling
Jesus (pbuh) “Lord” without obeying his
instructions ... found themselves far more
concerned about that, in fact, than about any
media coverage of geopolitical issues.
This kind of concern causes people
to change their lives.
THE CHALLENGE OF Q
Speaking personally, I changed my own life
because I could not ignore the implications of the
authentic, stand-alone Gospel passages that
today‟s most accomplished (non-Muslim!) scholars
believe to be of the earliest date available.
These sayings, which form a reconstructed text
known as Q, can all be found in the New
Testament. They are almost certainly the closest
we will ever be able to come to an authentic oral
tradition reflecting the actual sayings of Jesus
(pbuh).
Q CONFIRMS ISLAM
If you are new to Q, you should know what the
best New Testament scholars now know, namely
that today‟s scholarship identifies certain Gospel
passages as not only instructive, but historically
more relevant than other passages. This
scholarship has led to some fascinating discussions
among scholars (and a comparatively few lay
readers).
3. I believe the Q verses tend to confirm Islam‟s
depiction of Jesus (pbuh) as a human Prophet with
a Divine mandate essentially indistinguishable
from that of Muhammad (pbuh).
A HUMAN PROPHET
I did not develop the theory of Q. It has been
around for years. "Traditionalist" Christian clergy
and theologians are generally hostile to it. They
claim that students of Q are somehow eager to
diminish the status of Jesus (pbuh). Actually, we
are eager to learn what he is most likely to have
actually said.
Q represents a major challenge for contemporary
Christianity, not least because it strongly suggests
that Islam's picture of Jesus (pbuh) is historically
correct. The fact that Q essentially confirms
Islam‟s image of Jesus (pbuh) as a distinctly
human Prophet has not, I think, been widely
noticed by today's Christians. And it must be.
Because a careful review of the scriptures
demonstrates that Jesus (pbuh) is in fact calling
his people to Islam.
JESUS (PBUH) BROUGHT ME TO
ISLAM!
I came to Islam, alhamdulillah, after three
decades of restless dissatisfaction with
conventionial Christianity. Although I've read a lot
of conversion stories since I embraced Islam in
March of 2003, I haven't found many that cited
the Gospels as a point of entry to the Holy
Qur'an. This is how it was for me.
I was drawn to the Gospels at a young age --
eleven -- and I read them compulsively on my
own, despite the fact that I did not live in a
Christian household. I soon learned to keep
religious matters to myself.
EARLY QUESTIONS
For most of my adolescence I studied the Christian
scriptures on my own. I still have the red King
James Bible I bought as a child; my own
handwritten note on the front page proclaims
4. June 26, 1974, as the date I accepted Jesus
(pbuh) as my personal savior.
When I say I read the scriptures compulsively, I
mean that I was drawn to the Gospels of Matthew,
Mark, Luke, and John like a magnet. There are
plenty of notes and highlightings in that old Bible
of mine in Psalms, in Ecclesiastes, in Proverbs --
but most of the notes and underlinings are in the
Gospels. But I sensed, even at an early age, that
there were some internal problems with the texts
I loved so dearly.
WHO TAMPERED WITH THE
GOSPELS?
I can clearly remember reading the account in the
22nd chapter of Luke where Jesus (pbuh)
withdrew from the disciples, prayed, and returned
to find them fast asleep. Who, I wondered, could
have possibly observed him praying ... and then
related the incident so that it eventually could be
included in the Gospel of Luke? There's another
passage in the Gospels where Jesus (pbuh)
supposedly includes the words "let him who reads
understand" in one of his spoken discourses, which
seemed odd to me. And there was yet another
spot where the New Testament author assured
first-century Christians that their generation
would see the second coming of the Messiah -- a
passage I found difficult to square with modern
Christian doctrine. These and other queries about
the New Testament arose while I was still quite
young, certainly before I was fifteen. Had
someone manipulated the Gospels? If so, who? And
why?
I "filed" my questions for later, and decided that
the real problem was that I was not part of a
vigorous Christian faith community.
CATHOLIC
At eighteen, I headed East for college and entered
the Roman Catholic Church. In college, I met a
5. beautiful and compassionate Catholic girl who was
to become the great love and support of my life;
she was not particularly religious, but she
appreciated how important these matters were to
me, and so she supported me in my beliefs. I do a
great injustice to her seemingly limitless
resources of strength, support, and love by
compressing the beginning of our relationship into
a few sentences here.
AN ENCOUNTER WITH A PRIEST
I asked the campus priest -- a sweet and pious
man -- about some of the Gospel material that
had given me trouble, but he became
uncomfortable and changed the subject. On
another occasion, I remember telling him that I
was focusing closely on the Gospel of John
because that Gospel was (as I thought then) a
first-person account of the events in question.
Again, he stammered and changed the subject and
did not want to discuss the merits of one Gospel
over another; he simply insisted that all four were
important and that I should study all of them. This
was a telling conversation, and a fateful one, as it
turned out.
CHRISTIANITY? OR PAULISM?
Now, this is not my life story, but rather my
reversion account, so I'm going to fast-forward
over a lot of important events. That sweet
campus priest eventually married my girlfriend
and me, and we settled in suburban
Massachusetts. We each moved ahead
professionally and became grownups. We had
three beautiful children. And I kept reading and
rereading the Bible. I was drawn, as ever, to the
sayings about the lamp and the eye, the Prodigal
Son, the Beatitudes, the importance of prayer,
and so many others -- but I had steadily more
serious intellectual problems with the surrounding
"architecture" of the New Testament, particularly
with the Apostle Paul. The fact that Paul never
seemed to build a theological argument around
6. anything that Jesus (pbuh) actually said was a big,
big problem for me.
In the mid-1990s, my wife and I both became
deeply disenchanted with the Catholic Church, in
part because of a truly terrible priest who gave
very little attention to the spiritual needs of his
community. We later learned that he had been
covering up for a child abuser!
PROTESTANT
I found it necessary to immerse myself in a faith
community. I joined, and became active in, the
local Protestant denomination, a Congregational
Church.
So I led Sunday School classes for children, and
briefly taught a Gospel class on the Parables for
the adults. In the Sunday School classes for the
kids I stayed right with the curriculum I had been
given; but in the adult class, I tried to challenge
the participants to confront certain parables
directly, without filtering everything through the
Apostle Paul. We had interesting discussions, but I
sensed some resistance, and I didn't try to teach
an adult class again. My wife eventually joined my
church. (She is a member there today.)
By this point, I had become deeply affected by
the apparent intersection of the Christian mystic
tradition and that of the Sufis and the Zen
Buddhists. And I had even written on such
matters. But there seemed to be no one at my
church who shared my zeal for these issues.
FOCUSING ON THE GOSPEL SAYINGS
In particular, I was interested in the research
being done that indicated that the oldest strata of
the Gospels reflected an extremely early oral
7. source known as Q, and that each of the
individual sayings of Jesus (pbuh) needed to be
evaluated on its own merits, and not as part of
the narrative material that surrounded it.
This is because that narrrative material was added
many years later.
AN EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT?
In fact, the more I researched this subject, the
more I found myself thinking of that conversation
about the Gospel of John with my priest.I realized
that what he had been unwilling or unable to tell
me was that the author(s) of the Gospel of John
had been lying. This was manifestly not an
eyewitness account, though it claimed to be.
I was in a strange situation. I was certainly
enjoying the fellowship of the Christians at my
church, who were all committed and prayerful
people. Being part of a religious community was
important to me. Yet I had deep intellectual
misgivings about the supposed historicity of the
Gospel narratives. What's more, I was,
increasingly, getting a different message from the
Gospel sayings of Jesus (pbuh) than that which my
fellow Christians were apparently getting.
WRESTING WITH THE DOCTRINE OF
THE TRINITY
The more I looked at these sayings, the more
impossible it became for me to reconcile the
notion of the Trinity with that which seemed most
authentic to me in the Gospels. I found myself
face-to-face with some very difficult questions.
Where in the Gospels did Jesus use the word
"Trinity"?
If Jesus (pbuh) was God, as the doctrine of the
Trinity claims, why did he worship God?
AND -- if Jesus (pbuh) was God, why in the world
would he say something like the following?
8. "Why callest thou me good? There is none good
but one, that is, God." (Mark 10:18)
Did he somehow forget that he himself was God
when he said this?
(A side note -- I had a discussion with a woman
who assured me that this passage was not really
in the Gospels, and who refused to believe that it
appeared there until I gave her the chapter and
verse number and she looked it up for herself!)
THE HOLY QUR'AN
In November of 2002, I began to read a translation
of the Qur'an.
I had never read an English translation of the
entire text of the Qur'an before. I had only read
summaries of the Qur'an written by non-
Muslims.(And very misleading summaries at that.)
Words do not adequately describe the
extraordinary effect that this book had on me.
Suffice to say that the very same magnetism that
had drawn me to the Gospels at the age of eleven
was present in a new and deeply imperative
form. This book was telling me, just as I could tell
Jesus (pbuh) had been telling me, about matters
of ultimate concern.
AUTHORITATIVE GUIDANCE
The Qur'an was offering authoritative guidance
and compelling responses to the questions I had
been asking for years about the Gospels.
“It is not (possible) for any human being to whom
God has given the Book and Wisdom and
Prophethood to say to the people: „Be my
worshippers rather than God‟s.' On the contrary,
(he would say): „Be devoted worshippers of your
Lord, because you are teaching the Book, and you
9. are studying it.‟ Nor would he order you to take
angels and Prophets for lords. Would he order you
to disbelieve after you have submitted to God‟s
will?” (Qur‟an 3:79-80)
The Qur'an drew me to its message because it so
powerfully confirmed the sayings of Jesus (pbuh)
that I felt in my heart had to be
authentic. Something had been changed in the
Gospels, and that something, I knew in my
heart, had been left intact in the text of the
Qur'an.
STARTLING PARALLELS
Below, you will find just a few examples of the
parallels that made my heart pliant to the worship
of Allah (swt). Each Gospel verse comes from the
reconstructed text known as Q -- a text that
today's scholars believe represents the
earliest surviving strata of the teachings of the
Messiah. Note how close this material is to the
Qur'anic message.
Q AGREES WITH QUR'AN ON
TAWHEED (MONOTHEISM)
In Q, Jesus (pbuh) endorses, in no uncertain
terms, a rigorous monotheism.
"Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written,
'Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him
only shalt thou serve.' (Luke 4:8)
Compare:
"Children of Adam, did We not command you not
to worship Satan? He was your sworn enemy. Did
We not command you to worship Me, and tell you
that this is the straight path?" (Holy Qur'an 36:60-
61)
Q AGREES WITH QUR'AN ON AQABA
(THE UPHILL PATH)
Q identifies a Right Path that is often difficult, a
10. path that unbelievers will choose not to follow.
"Enter ye in through the narrow gate. For wide is
the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to
destruction, and many there are who go in there.
Narrow is the gate, and narrow is the way, which
leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
(Matthew 7:13-14)
Compare:
"The worldly life is made to seem attractive to the
disbelievers who scoff at the faithful, but the
pious, in the life hereafter, will have a position
far above them." (Holy Qur'an 2:212)
"Would that you knew what the uphill path is! It is
the setting free of a slave or, in a day of famine,
the feeding of an orphaned relative and a
downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would
join) the believers who cooperate with others in
patience and kindness." (Holy Qur'an 90:12-17)
Q AGREES WITH QUR'AN ON TAQWA
(FEAR OF GOD)
Q warns us to fear only the judgment of God.
"And I say unto you, my friends, Be not afraid of
them that kill the body, and after that have no
more that they can do. But I will forewarn you
whom ye shall fear. Fear Him, which after He
hath killed, hath the power to cast into Hell. Yea,
I say unto you, fear Him!" (Luke 12:4-5)
Compare:
"To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the
earth. God's retribution is severe. Should you then
have fear of anyone other than God?" (Holy Qur'an
16:52)
Q AGREES WITH QUR'AN ON THE
TRAPS OF DUNYA (EARTHLY LIFE)
In Q, Jesus (pbuh) warns humanity plainly that
earthly advantages and pleasures should not be
the goal of our lives:
11. "Woe unto you that are rich! For you have
received your consolation. Woe unto you who are
full! You shall be hungry. Woe unto you who laugh
now! You shall weep and mourn." (Luke 6:24)
Compare:
"The desire to have increase of worldly gains has
preoccupied you so much (that you have
neglected the obligation of remembering God) --
until you come to your graves! You shall know.
You shall certainly know (about the consequences
of your deeds.) You will certainly have the
knowledge of your deeds beyond all doubt. You
will be shown hell, and you will see it with your
own eyes. Then, on that day, you shall be
questioned about the bounties (of God). (102:1-8)
Q WARNS MANKIND NOT TO ASSUME
ENTRY TO HEAVEN IS ASSURED!
Consider also the following chilling words from
the Messiah, which should (!) make every heart
humble, choke off all forms of arrogance in
spiritual matters, and quiet every attack upon a
fellow monotheist:
"And I say unto you, that many shall come from
the east and west, and shall sit down with
Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of
heaven. But those who believe they own the
kingdom of heaven shall be cast out into the outer
darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of
teeth." (Matthew 8:11-12)
Obviously, this is an important teaching for all
people of good will to bear in mind ... and to etch
upon the memory.
Q SAYS NOTHING OF CRUCIFIXION
OR SACRIFICE!
You have seen how the historically earliest verses
-- the Q verses -- parallel the major teachings of
the Qur'an. Also worthy of mention is the fact that
Q teaches nothing whatsoever of the
Crucifixion, of the sacrificial nature of the mission
12. of Jesus (pbuh) ... an intriguing omission indeed!
We are left then with an amazing early Gospel -- a
Gospel that (non-Muslim) scholars believe is
historically closest to Jesus (pbuh) -- a Gospel
that has the following characteristics:
Agreement with the Qur'an's uncompromising
message of God's Oneness.
Agreement with the Qur'an's message of an
afterlife of salvation or hellfire ... based on our
earthly deeds.
Agreement with the Qur'an's warning not to be
misled by dunya -- the attractions and pleasures
of worldly life.
AND ...
A complete ABSENCE of any reference to Christ's
death on the cross, resurrection, or sacrifice for
humanity!
This is the Gospel that today's most advanced non-
Muslim scholars have identified for us ... and this
Gospel is pointing us, if only we will listen to it, in
precisely the same direction as the Qur'an!
MY DEAR CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS -- I
BEG YOU TO ASK YOURSELVES PRAYERFULLY, TO
SEEK ALMIGHTY GOD'S GUIDANCE ON THIS
QUESTION: CAN THIS POSSIBLY BE A
COINCIDENCE?
SHARE THE WORD!
I became a Muslim on March 20, 2003. It became
obvious to me that I had to share this message
with as many thoughtful Christians as I could. I
wrote a book of Dawah to share with open-minded
students of the Gospels. There are many, many
more parallels between the oldest words of Jesus
(pbuh) and the Holy Qur'an; I discuss them at
length in my book Mere Islam.
Please share this book's message with the
Christians in your life!
A BOOK FOR THOUGHTFUL
13. CHRISTIANS
I wrote Mere Islam to help people reach an
informed conclusion about the true nature of
the mission of Jesus (pbuh). Because media
coverage of Islam in the West is so unremittingly
hostile, I decided to rely primarily on the words
of Jesus (pbuh), appealing only rarely to the
Holy Qur'an. To the degree that they realize
that the oldest Gospel verses accurately mirror
the teachings of Islam, thoughtful Christians
may, Godwilling, become more curious about
the teachings of the Qur'an.
Reasonable people may disagree on the age and
authenticity of the Q sayings of Jesus (pbuh) that I
appeal to in Mere Islam. All followers of Jesus
(pbuh) must agree, though, that the words in Q
cited in this book also appear in the Gospels found
in every Bible and are binding on every
Christian. For those who insist on the importance
of following Jesus (pbuh), surely that is enough.
What you have read here is a brief summary of
why I believe Jesus (pbuh) was a Muslim. To learn
more about the recent New Testament scholarly
breakthroughs that support this point, please read
my book.
I would love to hear from you. I hope you will e-
mail me.
