One of the greatest benefits of Icinga is its ability to integrate with various tools and modules to satisfy the company’s requests. An example is OpenShift monitoring. I will point out the most important parts of monitoring OpenShift infrastructure while maintaining it’s complexity. In my approach I will show how we combine Icinga, Prometheus, Grafana and Elasticsearch for an overall OpenShift monitoring solution. Additional examples will show the benefits of using Icinga’s Business Process modelling to add more value to the result.

Gitops: a new paradigm for software defined operations
The document discusses GitOps and a new paradigm called cloud native applications. It promotes GitOps as an approach where the entire system, including code, config, monitoring rules and policies are described in a Git repository. This allows the entire system to be destroyed and re-built with no human intervention. Hence agile is getting kind of an old hat and new movements emerge trying to proclaim new best practices for developing modern software. DevOps is one of these movements discussed in the recent days, but both share basic concepts. One of the aims of agile development is to bring development closer to QA. So the logical consequence of connecting both ideas is to also combine testing and operations.‘Why should we test our infrastructure?’ For me the answer to this question is quite simple: ‘Because infrastructure is code !’ Furthermore infrastructure is a crucial part of an application. It is basically the fundament of our app. Everyone just expects infrastructure to work, but the reality is quite different. Often the knowledge about infrastructure and its current status is isolated and if something goes wrong it triggers indescribable panic.Testing the infrastructure not only ensures that it works but also helps spreading knowledge about this black magic and making the current status more transparent to the team.Since the distribution of automated deployments and continuous delivery progresses quite extensively, experience in testing infrastructure will certainly become a skill many companies clamor for. This workshop reveals why this is an important part of the continuous delivery pipeline and includes a hands-on how to automate it.

Chris Wright is Vice President and Chief Technologist at Red Hat where he is leading engineers who work on cloud computing, distributed storage, software defined networking and network functions virtualization, containers, machine learning, and continuous delivery. During his more than 20 years as a software engineer he has worked in the telecom industry on high availability and distributed systems and in the Linux industry on security, virtualization, and networking. He has been a Linux developer for over 15 years, most of that time spent deep in the Linux kernel.
He is passionate about open source software serving as the foundation for next generation IT systems. He lives in sunny Portland, Oregon where he is happily working with open source projects such as OpenDaylight, Open vSwitch, OPNFV, OpenStack, Open Container Initiative, and Cloud Native Computing Foundation. Chris is currently a board member of OpenDaylight and OPNFV.

Ryanair presentation-Use of Gherkin in BDD

- Chaos engineering extends failure testing beyond CI pipelines to pre-production and production environments by intentionally breaking systems to identify weaknesses.

After successfully moving a large workload from a Public Cloud to an OpenStack Private Cloud, the former TubeMogul Operations Engineering team tackled its next important step toward Cloud Bursting.
While experiencing hyper-growth on the Adobe Advertising Cloud, the team had to figure out a simple way to quickly provision new compute resources. Our latency critical workload need our core private resources while some workload can safely leverage public cloud. Cloud Bursting helped to ensure rapid support of the business and provide a more flexible capacity planning strategy. Being able to burst some workload back to the Public Cloud allowed the team to leverage the best of public and private cloud.
In this presentation, we will detail how the team dealt with the network complexity between clouds infrastructure, the cost effectiveness of cloud bursting, the impact on performance, and the hard reality of multi-cloud environments.

This document discusses strategies for testing microservices. It begins with an overview of manual vs automated testing and challenges of testing software. The goal of testing is to develop, test, and deploy without breaking the system. Unit testing is good for complex logic but not enough to ensure functionality. Integration testing tests interfaces and is fast enough on modern computers. Microservices require loose coupling and independent deployability.
