Notable Projects
Manufacture of ‘Horlicks’ - 3rd year
project
Cross disciplinedesign projectwith civil engineers. We were tasked
with optimising an existingplant, lookingatpotential cost effective
improvements as well as designing a new process plant. We designed
the new process plantequipment, whereas the civil engineers
designed the buildingplan, supports etc. It also Included individual
work where I designed a full 5-effect evaporator system complete
with sizes,costs,operatingconditions, foulagebuild up, control
systems, cleaningprotocols and a 3 point2D projection.
The project involved the drawingand interpretation of P+ID’s and 2D
AutoCAD drawings, design calculations, writing MatLab scripts use
of Microsoft Office suiteand technical report writing.
Decoupling sintering and phase
transformation mechanisms for
the aerospace industry - 4th year
dissertation
11 week research project in Materials and Metallurgy exploringthe
shapechange silica undergoes when heated to high temperatures
(1500°C) and attributingit to different phenomena. It was designed
for 2 people, but I undertook work alone and achieved highly.
The workload involved 11 weeks of lab work, Interpreting complex
data from dilatometers, X-ray diffractors and SEM machines as well
as technical research, report writing and good time management.
