This 75-acre property in Costa Rica has outstanding views of the Reventazon River Valley from its ridge-top location. It contains native forest and ranchland that is home to many species like toucans, trogons, hummingbirds, howler monkeys, and mammals like jaguars and ocelots. The owner wants to preserve the land but has received an offer to develop it. The property would be well-suited for conservation as an eco-retreat, wildlife refuge, or birdwatching site to help strengthen the threatened biological corridor.

Nested magnificently in a high mountain meadow
surrounded by majestic forests of Pine and Spruce, this
historic 2,100-acre working cattle and hay operation has
been the center point of the Taylor canyon for over 110
years. Beginning with a vision to protect and preserve this
exceptional area from large development pressure, yet
meet market economics, an idea was formed to share the
ranch with others who would respond to the value
proposition of a low impact, low-density plan centered on
mutual conservation easements.
Wilder is truly an outdoor paradise. Riding well-behaved
ranch horses on our many trails or biking on the adjoining
millions of federal land acres, you will meet real wildlife,
see richly colored mountain towers and enjoy the clean,
clear mountain air you probably forgot existed. The goal;
the time you spend at Wilder will become the lasting legacy
for your family and their futures.

1. REVENTAZON PANORAMA RANCH
Expansive Ridge-Top Ranch with Outstanding Views
75 acres (30 hectares)
$600,000
Perched on a commanding hilltop with panoramic views of the Reventazon River Valley, this
outstanding property embodies 50 acres (20 hectares) of native forest and 25 acres (10 hectares) of
lush green ranchland. Glorious views stretch across the Reventazon beneath the towering Turrialba
Volcano to the West, while endless vistas sweep down towards the Caribbean coast in the East.
The property is located 20 minutes south of the market town of Siquirres, and 45 minutes north of
the bustling tourist hub of Turrialba. A small convenience store, local bar and restaurant are located
just five minutes drive away in the village of Guayacan.
The Biological Corridor
Panorama Ranch is situated in a key conservation region within the Northeastern section of the
Barbilla-Destierro Wildlife Corridor. Situated in the rolling hills above the Reventazon Hydroelectric
Project, it is home to countless species of wonderful birds including toucans, trogons, and
hummingbirds, and also provides a refuge for multiple species of mammals.
The owner is a keen naturalist and desires to see his beautiful property preserved and protected. He
has recently made positive identifications of both jaguar and ocelot passing through the property.
Other mammals such as howler monkeys and coatimundis are becoming more frequent visitors as
they are being displaced from their natural habitat in the valley below.
View of the majestic Turrialba Volcano from the property.
2. Conservation Action
The property has fantastic potential, with acres of grassy open ranchland perched on a high ridge-
top surrounded by thick pristine jungle sloping down into the steep valleys below. The creation of
the Reventazon reservoir in 2016 will only increase this property’s importance as a migratory route,
as jaguars and other threatened species seek new ways to navigate around its shores and cross the
Reventazon Valley. 25 acres of pastureland along the ridge could be reforested to help strengthen
the threatened biological corridor and provide a safer and more sustainable habitat for passing
felines.
The top of the ridge is an excellent site for an eco-retreat or private home.
Appropriate Land Use
With increasing development in the Reventazon Valley following in the wake of the dam
construction, environmentally focused stewardship is urgently required in order save the land from
unsustainable development. The race is on to find a suitable buyer for this gem before the owner
succumbs to market forces and accepts a developer’s offer.
A Swiss developer has offered to buy the property in order to build a luxury housing development
incorporating 20 detached homes, each with stunning views of the valley. The sub-division of the
land into private, fenced-off parcels would significantly hinder the passage of jaguars and other
felines through this vital section of the corridor. We strongly believe that this development must be
prevented.
The spectacular nature of the property makes this an optimum site for a bird-watching haven, a
wildlife refuge, or a small, high-end eco-retreat. The majority of pastureland could be strategically
reforested in order to boost biodiversity, whilst still utilizing areas with the most breathtaking views
for a small number of low-impact constructions. Restrained sustainable building could work
symbiotically with a reforestation program to create a landscape with multiple wildlife viewing
platforms, or a couple of “Eagles Nest” style dream homes with absolute privacy and breathtaking
views.
3. Infrastructure Investment
Infrastructural investment by the Reventazon Hydroelectric Project has resulted in the access road to
this property recently being paved for the first time. The new asphalt road means that this beautiful
rural paradise is now easily accessible from the main Siquirres-Turrialba highway. The Costa Rican
electricity company (ICE) are currently laying an electricity line straight past the property, which has
also has it’s own reliable and pure water source.
The property has stunning views in almost every direction.
4. Location in Costa Rica
The Reventazon Valley is only two hours drive from the capital San Jose, and just one hour from the
nearest airport at Guapiles. The Reventazon region is exceptionally well located within Costa Rica,
and is surrounded by a network of National Parks and Forest Reserves that designate the valley as an
important wildlife corridor.
Within easy reach of the Reventazon Valley are the Barbilla National Park, the Turrialba Volcano
National Park, the Tapanti National Park, the Rio Macho Forest Reserve, and the world famous
Pacuare Forest Reserve. Nearby Siquirres is the gateway to the Caribbean Coast and its endless
natural wonders, including Braulillo-Carrillo, Manzanillo, Cahuita and the world-renown
biodiversity hotspot, Tortuguero National Park.
The landscape slopes down into the Reventazon Valley below. The River is visible in the distance.
