Technical Vault Installation
Jacob Bros Construction, based out of Surrey, B.C, is a
private General Contractor specializing in highway and street
construction projects. In the March of 2011 Eagle West
Cranes was hired by Jacob Bros to unload and install a two
piece vault.
The site located in Tsawwassen, B.C. was a 14’ excavation
on the side of Highway 17. With steady traffic due to the ferry
terminal, plus the added challenge of extremely soft ground
conditions, access was limited. “The access was tough, it
was tricky working with the ground conditions to maintain a
1-1 ratio distance from the excavation, but we did it,” noted
Adam Sache, Eagle West Operator.
“We didn’t have enough room to put the trucks beside each
other on the highway, so I operated a Cormach 180 ton
folding boom crane. I performed a single pick of each piece
of the vault, lifting it from in front of my truck and setting it
down at the back,” commented Adam. Then using a Cormach
125 ton folding boom crane, the 20,000 pound vault pieces
were hoisted and installed.
