Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who murdered and mutilated women in Whitechapel, London in 1888. The killer was never identified and the case remains unsolved. The five canonical victims were murdered in a gruesome fashion, their throats cut and bodies mutilated. Suspects were proposed based on letters sent to police and the press, but no conclusive evidence identified the killer. The crimes have since been the subject of books, films, plays, music and video games exploring the identity and motives of Jack the Ripper.
