RFID tags use radio frequency electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. They can be either active tags with batteries or passive tags without batteries. While RFID tags are used in many applications like debit cards and self-checkout libraries, their adoption faces challenges regarding security, privacy, and costs associated with mandating their use.
