SUBJECT: Update on the City of Alamo Heights 100th
Anniversary Celebration
DATE: March 14, 2022
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Planning continues for the City’s 100-year anniversary week to be celebrated in October 2022.
Kick-off events are: 1) AH09 5K Fun Run – March 26th
; 2) 23rd
Annual Pooch Parade sponsored
by Therapy Animals of San Antonio – April 9th
; and 3) 52nd
Annual 4th
of July Parade – July 4th.
Meetings consisting of Mayor Rosenthal, City Manager Buddy Kuhn and Assistant to City
Manager Jennifer Reyna have resumed with CE Group to plan for the bigger events.
In preparation of the kick-off events, centennial logo themed t-shirts have been ordered. Fiesta
medals mirroring the centennial logo have arrived and will be distributed to residents, beginning
March 21st
. In the spirit, centennial logo pet bowls will be provided to dog owners that attend
the 52nd
Annual Pooch Parade. Coordination has been made with Therapy Animals of San
Antonio to be part of the event. Contact has been made with the Episcopal Diocese of West
Texas for the 4th
of July Parade.
City-wide activities are planned for the week of October 1st
through October 8th
. Activities range
from Treats at Bark Park, History day at City Hall, Tour of Homes, movie night, parade, and the
list is not final. On October 8th
, culminating events will occur on one day to include a car show,
swimming pool day, followed by a day filled with food and entertainment, relaxing as you enjoy
a fireworks show. A make-up weather day for this culminating event is slated for Saturday,
October 16th
. Currently, finalizing locations and time of different community events. National
Night Out will also be a part of the celebration which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4th
.
Sarah Reveley has compiled and shared articles from the early 1900’s divided by
departments/topics. A project is being considered to publish the special collection to include
black and white photos.
Since January, monthly articles and photos have been submitted exclusively to Alamo Heights
Living magazine highlighting Mayor Jack Judson radio reports that were conducted in
August/September 1963 showcasing the history of Alamo Heights.
Marketing flyers and information are available and on the website. A street banner is displayed
across City Hall, throughout the year. Focus has been on the kick-off events as the events during
the celebrations in October are developed.
