While it may be tempting to view human traffickers as purely evil, they are complex people just as their victims are. To truly address the problem of human trafficking, we must understand why some choose to participate in the sex trade. As long as there is a market for exploited people, traffickers will continue to exploit others for profit. Effective solutions require understanding the motivations and behaviors of all involved.

It is reflexively tempting to lump perpetrators involved in human trafficking together as
“evil” people. The perpetrators of human trafficking are just as complex as the victims.
Understanding WHY someone would choose to participate in the sex trade is critically
important to understanding how society might solve the problem of human trafficking.
After all, if there was no market for the exploited bodies of women, children and men, there
would be no trade in the exploited bodies of women, children, and men. Definitions are
therefore important. Explain: what is a john/trick? What is a sociopath? What is a
psychopath? Are all johns socio/psychopaths? How are they the same and how are they
different (think motive)? (3+ paragraphs)MAKING A PLAN: People do not fall victim to
human traffickers by accident. Watched the videos in this module for the tactics predators
use to find and keep their victims. Do your own research. Then, come up with a step by step
plan. Briefly explain the point and purpose of each step of how to create a human trafficking
victim.
