DS Approach consists in the following work steps:
1. Demand Analysis: Work with the Company to define and understand
the products and requirements (specs, volumes, materials, production
technology requirements)
2. Supply Market Analysis : Identify long list of potential suppliers in
the selected markets by leveraging B2B Websites, DS Database, Fair
catalogues, Chamber of Commerce, Magazines, Network,
References.
3. Telephone Pre-screening : Selection of suppliers to be included in
the RFI/RFP process by telephone pre-screening based on agreed
simple criteria (e.g. capability to make the product, minimum company
size, interest in participating)
4. Administer the NDA: NDA template authorized by client that will be
distributed to the suppliers who is willing to attend the RFI-RFQ
5. Develop RFI/RFQ : Prepare an RFI/RFQ document, with an aligned
Balanced Scorecard that has the objective to pre-qualify the
competitiveness and capabilities of the suppliers, including:
Background, financial, Client and product experience, Quality
certification & processes, Social Responsibility,
Manufacturing/technology capability, R&D capability.
6. Conduct RFI/RFQ Administration : The RFI/RFQ is translated to the
local languages as relevant, and distributed to the relevant suppliers,
with telephone follow-up to push for maximum participation.
7. Analyze RFI/RFQ Responses : Analysis of RFI/RFQ responses,
estimation of logistics costs, and preparation of a report which profiles
& objectively ranks the suppliers by capability and competitiveness,
including a recommendation for those to be audited.

9. The disappointing RFI-RFQ response rate (in relation to the “intent to respond”
numbers) is driven essentially by the lack drawing information provided by Client
• Phone Screening
– Of the 326 suppliers identified (212 in the US and 114 in Mexico), only 46 US suppliers and 15 Mexican suppliers were
shortlisted
– 282 suppliers were eliminated for one of the following reasons
• Do not cast/ machine Ductile Iron
• Not capable of producing complex products (esp over 50lb)
• Not capable of reporting PPAP
• No quality certification
• Not interested/ No capacity
• Out of business
• NDA
– 61 suppliers were sent an NDA (46 US and 15 Mexico) but only 18 US suppliers and 5 Mexican suppliers executed NDA and
responded with an intention to respond to RFQ. Suppliers that did not execute NDA for the following reasons
• Not comfortable with arbitration in Denmark clause
• Not interested in proceeding further with no reason given
• Intention to Respond
– Out of the 23 suppliers (18 US + 5 Mexico) that had intended to respond, 8 suppliers (7 US + 1 Mexico) responded with RFQ.
The others did not quote for the following reasons:
• 5 US suppliers and 2 Mexican suppliers requested for specific sub-component drawings which were not available
• 5 US suppliers requested for 3D drawings which were not available
• 1 US supplier informed they had already quoted the client earlier and decline to participate further
• 1 US supplier and 1 Mexican supplier requested for more time to quote and still not quoted despite extending the deadline
twice
