Editor's Notes

  • #3 Project manager defines what the project is and what the managers hope to achieve by taking on the project. The manager defines all activities and how they are related. This includes how long the job will take and how they relate to a specific deadline. Manager has to know how many people they will need and how much it will cost to complete the job. When executing the project manager builds the project team, they know how many resources needed for the project and how much budget they have to work with for the project. Manager assigns the resources and allocates budgets for each part of the project. Now the work of the project manager begins. The project manager keeps updating the project plans to reflect the actual time elapse for each task and if they are staying on budget. Closure of the project is when the project manager and business owner pull the project team and stake owners to analyze the final out come of the project.
  • #4 Project mangers speaks of the needs to manage and balance three elements people, time and money. The forth element is the most important and the first and last task for a successful project manager IF. Jon Reh about.com).
  • #5 Scenario planning is a discipline for rediscovering the original entrepreneurial power of creative foresight in context, an genuine uncertainty (Pierre Wack, Royal Dutch/shell, 1984).
  • #6 This approach looks at the most likely (best guess) future situation based on current information. Optimistic scenario introduces questions as to what things would or could happen to result in a better than anticipated outcome, how can the organization make those things happen? Pessimistic scenario looks at many of the things that could go wrong and tries to help decision makers plan responses to deal with these problems should they happen. Good vs. Bad scenario approach avoids tendency to focus on the most likely alternative of the “best guess” and forces mangers to give more attention to both extremes. Arrayed scenarios look at alternatives associated with a continuum along a single criterion or dimension. Independently themed scenarios looks at different aspects of the future( referenceforbusiness.com).
  • #7 Scenario planning takes longer to put together than project management. It takes more manpower to create different out comes for each scenario they may come up with. The group must explain to upper management how each scenario will effect the company in the future with this type of planning there are no guaranties the project will go as planned. Scenario planning requires more man power from the vary start. You have to rely on historical data and assume a contunialiton of past practices and environmental stability. Most companies make scenarios too broad or too narrow. When they are to broad they tend to dismiss them and they feel the scenarios are unrealistic and highly improbable. When too narrow the scenarios are usually minor variations of the existing strategy or the same theme (referenceforbusiness.com).
  • #8 By defining what the new project that needs compleations. From the start create the team that can plan the project from start to finish. Once the planning stage is finished have the man power and resources to complete the job with the budget give on time. By using project management the company can start jobs faster by knowing how many people needed for the job and how much expense is involved in the project.
