She never obtained a PhD due to gender barriers but received several honorary degrees and awards, including the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1988. 6-Mercaptopurine is used to treat various forms of cancer and inflammatory diseases.

organismal and population levels. It include branches like Biochemistry, cell biology,

Molecular biology etc.,
Beginning in the 1960, when the women movement in 20th century was nearing its peak, woman
compaigned for and finally won equal right in education and employment . Instead of few
woman training to be teacher, nurse, female student in increase in number were now choosing

Famous for : Work on Nuclear physics
Lise Meitner was a key member of discoveries of nuclear fission.

Famous for : Work on astronomy
She was the very first american woman to become professional astronomer. She discovered a
comet in 1847 that was named as Miss Mitchell Comet.
5. Elizabeth Blackburn (1948)
Famous for : Telomere (present at end of chromosomes)
Elizabeth Black won the noble prize in 2009 for her discovery of telomerase which is enzyme
which replenishes telomere

2. Gertrude Elion Gertrude was born on January 23, 1918. She grew up in New York City. She graduated from Hunter College in 1937 and New York University in 1941. She could not obtain a graduate research position due to her gender so she worked as a lab assistant and a high school teacher. Later, she left to work as an assistant to George H. Hitchings at the Burroughs-Wellcome pharmaceutical company

Gertrude Elion continued… She never obtained a formal PhD, but was later awarded an honorary PhD from Polytechnic University of New York in 1989 and honorary SD degree from Harvard university in 1998. In 1988 Elion received the Nobel Prize in Medicine, together with Hitchings and Sir James Black. Other awards include the National Medal Of Science (1991)and the Lemelson-MIT Lifetime Achievement Award (1997). In 1991 she became the first woman to be inducted into the National Inventors Hall Of Fame. Gertrude Elion Died on February 20 1999.

And if some of those people who would have died probably invented something very useful that we have today. That’s why I feel that this invention should receive the Student Choice Award.
