2. Improving physical abilities to improve
performance on the field
◦ This includes injury prevention, movement patterns,
speed, strength, and endurance
This occurs progressively
◦ You get better little by little, not all at once
Training is a long-term process
3. The following slides will illustrate what will be
important for success with the actual
program, as well as football going forward
4. One workout will not make you a good football
player, one good meal will not fix your diet
◦ Many workouts, spaced appropriately, with varying work
performed over time will yield results
This requires dedication and arranging priorities in
a way where training takes precedence over non-essential
tasks (video games, television, parties,
etc)
5. Similar to #1
◦ While results will come to those who work hard
consistently, every athlete adapts at different rates
This means some people will naturally be/get stronger
than others!
◦ Compare yourself only in terms of getting better
than you were yesterday
6. Football is not easy!!
◦ Training reflects this
“Get comfortable being uncomfortable.”
Must always keep goals in mind
7. No one can or should do it for you
◦ Training is a self dependent act
Take it upon yourself to take charge of your
success
8. Write down your goals
◦ List of 10 things, as big or small as you need, with
concrete details
“I will weigh 100 kg on June 1, 2015.”
NOT “I want to gain weight.”
◦ Print goals off, put them somewhere you can see them
every day
No more excuses!
◦ You must be in control of your destiny. Take it on yourself
to be great.
