Intranet for Small Business – A Complete Guide.docx
1. Intranet for Small Business – A Complete Guide
An intranet is a network that helps employees communicates securely within an organization.
Within intranet organizations, ensure no unauthorized user can access their data. They allow
employees to share information, links, forms, and a database of organization records.
Here we use the term database, which means that container or space where all authorized
usernames will be present and have rights to access that organization's data. An Intranet can be
used in working in small groups and conferences. We should use an intranet for small
businesses to communicate securely.
History of Intranet
The intranet was developed in 1994, which was bound up with the development of the
Internet. Tim Berners-Lee proposed the idea of WWW in 1989, whose aim was to enable the
connection and access of various resources, which acts as a prototype for the first inner
networks. The main objective of the intranet invention was to enhance employee
communication and productivity.
How does the Intranet work?
An intranet requires a web server that maintains all requests for data on the server. The web
server receives that request, finds the relevant data, and delivers them to the specific user. It
consists of collections of interconnected local area networks and WAN resources.
Employees only use the intranet if they have a unique network password and are connected to
the company LAN. It also uses other programming languages like HTML, XML, etc. Intranet
Solution is one of the best companies for intranet building.
We also know security is the main thing of intranet, so it uses different software for security
reasons. An intranet uses Firewall software for security. It acts as an intermediate between the
outside Internet and the private intranet. The firewall checks the entire incoming and outgoing
data packet not contain any unauthorized requests. The firewall also protects the intranet from
malicious attacks. An intranet uses encryption and decryption and other guards to protect data.
Why do we use the intranet?
Now the question arises here, why use an intranet? We have the following reasons for the use
of the intranet.
Improve relations: An intranet makes effective communication between management
and staff. Our employees may have some queries, questions, and issues within an
2. organization, so the intranet improves relations between their management and
employees.
Maintaining work balance: It makes employees more productive because every
employee has login details to pursue their job and access all the tools they need to
complete their work.
Improve internal communications: An intranet enhance communication in workers to
not only access data but also share information. Let us take an example of a company.
Several departments can upload various critical documents and announcements, and
the product team can share their progress; all can be done with the help of the intranet.
It is a valuable tool for remote workers and employees who spread globally.
How are intranets used?
In an organization, intranets use differently depending on their needs. These include the
following such as:
Central repository: Intranets are the principal repository of all organizations' data.
Collaboration: All the networks are interconnected to share information that helps
employees work together.
Personalization: Intranets provide unique content to their employees based on their
role in the company.
Communications: The intranet makes employees' directories, news of the company, and
organization charts readily available and improves internal communications.
What are the examples of the intranet?
These are the following various intranet examples.
Axero
Facebook
Blink
HCL connections
Samepage
Workvivo
Microsoft SharePoint
In conclusion, we conclude that we need an intranet for small businesses. Intranet Solution is
one of the best companies to provide intranet services to their customers with the best quality
and high speed. If you are looking for intranet services, choose Intranet Solution.
