1. Where the future of district heating and
cooling planning meets…
4 tools to accelerate sustainable energy transitions in Europe
Moderation by: Alis Daniela Torres, ICLEI European Secretariat
3. Energy Transitions are Needed
• The new IPCC special report finds that limiting global warming
to 1.5°C would require "rapid and far-reaching" transitions in
energy - as well as land, industry, buildings, transport, and
cities.
• Meeting the SDG goals will require scaling up of
technologies that help different parts of the
energy system work together.
• EU's energy policies aim to ensure that European
citizens can access secure, affordable and sustainable
energy supplies.
4. Workshops Goals
• To showcase the importance of research, innovation and demonstration projects in thermal
energy planning, through a practical assessment experience of the four tools
• To provide information and insights about the four tools as key drivers to unlock the potential
of energy efficiency and renewable energies on a local, regional, national and European level.
• To gather expert feedback from participants, on the tools use and functionalities to identify
improvement opportunities and synergies for collaboration.
• To leverage the importance of energy planning to accelerate sustainable and low-carbon
transitions in the heating and cooling sector.
