1) Lamarck put forward one of the theories regarding Evolution.

without limbs.

Lamarck theory of evolution. 
Changes appeared during the time of evolution in an organism. 
The learner already knows that species living today have an ancestor of 
typical physical features. 
The learner already knows that formation of evolution is not a sudden 
change. 
1) A chart showing the changes appeared in the physical structure of 
Giraffe. 
2) A chart showing 4 laws of Lamarck’s theory.
Teaching-Learning Interaction 
As part of awakening process, the teacher shows a picture of giraffe with short neck and one 
picture with long neck. Then conduct a discussion with the students.

Okay, then watelse do you know about Evolution? 
Let us look at the Scientist who put forward the Theory of Evolution. 
Theory of Evolution (B. B. H) 
Teacher shows a chart having 4 laws of Lamarck. Before that teacher says about a short detail 
about theory. Lamarck suggested that changes in an individual are acquired during its lifetime, 
by increased use or disuse of an organ. Teacher then ask one of the student to read out the 
chart. 
Presentation No:1 
Teacher shows the chart of Four Laws of Lamarck’s theory 
Teacher then explains these laws with suitable examples like Giraffe and Snake. 
Then she shows another chart having the physical changes appeared in the animal like Giraffe. 
Presentation No:2 
All says 
two types 
of giraffe.

is due to 
the 
change of 
evolution.

Living organisms and their component part tend to increase in size 
continuously. 
The formation of new organ in the body is the result of new need and 
new movement. 
Constant use of an organ results in its better development while disuse 
cause its reduction and degeneration. 
Characters acquired by the individual during its lifetime are inherited by 
its offspring. It means changes are cumulative over a period of time.
Activity No:1 
The teacher divides the class into four groups. Each group were given activity sheets and ask 
the m to discuss about changes occurred during evolution.

4) What happens disuse of an organ happens constantly? 
Teacher asked the students to read out the answers in group wise.

  • 1. Name of the Teacher:Neethu L Devasia Standard : X Name of the School: St. Thomas High School Strength :20 Subject: Biology Date: 21/8/14 Unit :The story of life and organism Time : 40 min Topic : Theory of Evolution Period :V Curricular Statements Learning Outcomes Factual Knowledge Conceptual Knowledge Procedural Knowledge Metacognition Level Process Skills Create Attitude 1) To obtain knowledge about evolution of organism. 2) To understand the theory regarding the formation of different species of an organism. 3) To attain an idea about evolution theory. 4) To develop positive attitude towards diverse species evolved during evolution. 1) The learner recognizes changes occurred during the time of evolution in an animal. 2) The learner explains theory of evolution. 3) The learner give reason for stretching of long neck of giraffe. 4) The learner evaluate different laws of Lamarck’s theory of evolution. The learner develop observation skill by observing changes of animal like giraffe during the time of evolution. The learner communicate with others about importance of evolution. The learner become able to identify the species formed during the time of evolution. The learner develop positive attitude towards variation acquired by an organism at the time of evolution.

Content Analysis Terms Facts Concept Major Minor Pre-requisites Teaching-Learning interaction Species, evolution, ancestor, limbs, inheritance, Lamarck. 1) Lamarck put forward one of the theories regarding Evolution. 2) He suggested that changes in an individual are acquired during its lifetime, by increased use or disuse of organs. 3) Through continuous use of neck, giraffe with long neck evolved. 4) Ancestors of snake had limbs and their disuse led species of snake without limbs. 5) Ancestors are the forefathers of present species in the environment. 6) Characters are acquired by an individual are inherited by its offspring. 7) Influence of environment lead to the changing habits of species. Lamarck theory of evolution. Changes appeared during the time of evolution in an organism. The learner already knows that species living today have an ancestor of typical physical features. The learner already knows that formation of evolution is not a sudden change. 1) A chart showing the changes appeared in the physical structure of Giraffe. 2) A chart showing 4 laws of Lamarck’s theory.
  • 3. Teaching-Learning Interaction As part of awakening process, the teacher shows a picture of giraffe with short neck and one picture with long neck. Then conduct a discussion with the students. Pupils Response What do you understand from this picture? Do you know the reason behind this? Okay, then watelse do you know about Evolution? Let us look at the Scientist who put forward the Theory of Evolution. Theory of Evolution (B. B. H) Teacher shows a chart having 4 laws of Lamarck. Before that teacher says about a short detail about theory. Lamarck suggested that changes in an individual are acquired during its lifetime, by increased use or disuse of an organ. Teacher then ask one of the student to read out the chart. Presentation No:1 Teacher shows the chart of Four Laws of Lamarck’s theory Teacher then explains these laws with suitable examples like Giraffe and Snake. Then she shows another chart having the physical changes appeared in the animal like Giraffe. Presentation No:2 All says two types of giraffe. Some pupils may say it is due to the change of evolution. Pupil remain silent. Pupil listen carefully. Pupil read out the chart one by one. Living organisms and their component part tend to increase in size continuously. The formation of new organ in the body is the result of new need and new movement. Constant use of an organ results in its better development while disuse cause its reduction and degeneration. Characters acquired by the individual during its lifetime are inherited by its offspring. It means changes are cumulative over a period of time.
  • 4. Activity No:1 The teacher divides the class into four groups. Each group were given activity sheets and ask the m to discuss about changes occurred during evolution. Questions 1) Who put forward Theory of Evolution? 2) Characters acquired by an individual are inherited through ________. 3) What result constant use of an organ? 4) What happens disuse of an organ happens constantly? Teacher asked the students to read out the answers in group wise. Pupil observes carefully. Pupil divide in group and discuss on the topic. One pupil from each group read their answer.
  • 5. Activity No:2 The teacher ask about the concept behind the Theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characters. Discuss in group and consolidates as points. After discussion write down your points. Follow up Activity Write down the four laws of Lamarck theory of Evolution and draw the picture of changes acquired by giraffe during evolution? ___________________ Pupil discussed in group and answered as characters are acquired by an individual from its offspring.
