FUTURE OF
INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY
What is Technology?
The use of
scientific
knowledge for
practical purposes
How does technology
address human needs and wants?
How technology has affected our lives?
Information Technology
Information technology
(IT) is the use of any
computers,
storage, networking and
other physical devices,
infrastructure and
processes
to create, process, store,
secure and exchange all
forms of electronic data.
The term information
technology in
its modern sense
first appeared in a 1958
article
published in the
Harvard Business Review;
authors Harold J. Leavitt and
Thomas L.
encompasses other
information
distribution
technologies such as
television and
telephones, electronics,
semiconductors,
internet, telecom
equipment, and e-
commerce.
• widely used term in business and the field of computing. –
• refers various kinds of computer-related works. –
• consists of three basic parts:
i) computational data processing
ii)decision support
iii) business software.
Today, IT departments
have responsibility in
areas like:
i) computer tech
support
ii) business computer
network and database
administration
iii) business software
deploymentinformatio
n security.
TECHNOLOGY VS SCIENCE:
Like brothers! Or sisters!
HOW IS TECHNOLOGY DIFFERENT
THAN SCIENCE?
SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY
Technology is
the application of
knowledge.
Science is the
accumulation of
knowledge.
SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY
TECHNOLOGY is
the use of
knowledge to
turn resources
into the goods
and services
that society
needs.
SCIENCE is
the study of
WHY natural
things
happen the
way they do.
SCIENTIST TECHNOLOGIST
Use the
materials in the
earth to make
useful objects.
Study how the
earth was
formed and what
it is made from.
SCIENTIST TECHNOLOGIST
Build and launch
space shuttles
and satellites.
Study the
relationship
between the
earth, planets,
and the stars.
SCIENTIST TECHNOLOGIST
Technologists
create new
materials with
improved
characteristics.
Study materials
under a microscope
to learn why they
have the
characteristics that
they do.
SCIENTIST TECHNOLOGIST
Make artificial
hearts and
limbs.
Discover the way
the human body
works.
SCIENTIST TECHNOLOGIST
Use codes to
develop new
medicines and
vaccines.
Discover genetic
codes that
determine the
nature of life.
SCIENTISTS &
TECHNOLOGISTS
ARE A TEAM!
Scientists
Biologists, chemists,
and physicists are…
Architects, engineers,
product designers and
technicians are… Technologists
SCIENCE ANSWERS THE
QUESTION…
WHY?
Why does
glass break?
Why do we
have
families?
Why is the
average
global
temperature
rising?
TECHNOLOGY ANSWERS THE
QUESTION…
HOW?
How can we
make an
unbreakable
glass?
How can we
create a home
for a family?
How can we
end global
warming?
How IT has been
developed throughout the
history
Information technology has been around for a long, long time. Basically as long as
people have been around! Humans have always been quick to
adapt technologies for better and faster communication.
-Edward teller
Pre-Mechanical
The earliest age of technology. It can be defined as the time between 3000 B.C. and
1450 A.D. When humans first started communicating. continued with the advent of
formal language and better media such as rags, papyrus, and eventually paper.
Mechanical
The mechanical age is when we first start to see connections between our current
technology and its ancestors. The mechanical age can be defined as the time between
1450 and 1840.
Electro-Mechanical
The electromechanical age heralded the
beginnings of telecommunications as we
know it today. This age can be defined
roughly as the time between 1840 and
1940.
Several revolutionary technologies were
invented in this period such as the Morse
code, telephone, radio, etc.
Electronic
These machines used electronic switches, in the form of vacuum tubes, instead of the electromechanical
relays seen in the previous era. In principle the electronic switches would be more reliable, since they
would have no moving parts that would wear out, but the technology was still new at that time and the
tubes were comparable to relays in reliability. The major benefit of electronic switches was that they could
‘open’ and ‘close’ thousands of times faster than relays
Information Age and the Internet
The information age, made possible by the advent of electronic computers, is
characterized by the shift from traditional industry to an economy based on
information digitization.
Blessings
of
Information Technology
People can spread awareness
about things going on in the world
through the internet. Anyone can
share their story with the world
inspiring others and seeking help
for their cause.
Spread awareness :
Convenience :
there is no doubt that
technology has made our life
more convenient. Now we
can find information
regarding everything from
the comfort of our sofa.
Information
at our fingertips:
one of the reasons
technology is a blessing is
the fact that we literally
have information at our
fingertips. whenever we
need to know the answer to
a question or find a recipe ,
all we have to do is type
into the search engine and
Voila!!
Networking:
One of the most important
advantage of information
technology is that it helps
us to create network with
people. Regarding
business or any other issue
we can communicate with
people from all over the
world through technology
Does it Possess
any threat?
Social isolation:
Social isolation is characterized by a lack of contact with
other people in normal daily living, such as, the
with friends and in social activities. We isolate ourselves
walking around in our own little world, listening to our
iPods or staring at the screen of the latest mobile device
even when we are around other people. Studies have
shown that people who are socially isolated will live
lives.
Lack of Social Skills:
The use of online
social media outlets
causes us to meet
face-to-face with
much less frequency
resulting in a lack of
much needed social
skills. We lose the
ability to read body
language and social
cues in other
Obesity:
The more time people
are spending engrossed
in video games, talking
to friends online and
watching funny cat
videos on YouTube, they
are spending less time
being active or
exercising. Also the
likelihood of mindlessly
eating unhealthy food
increases as people are
hypnotized by the latest
episode of Honey Boo
Boo.
Depression:
Technology creates the perfect
recipe for depression with the
of human contact, overeating and
lack of exercise. There is a reason
the use of antidepressants are on
the rise and the blame can’t be
completely dumped on the
pharmaceutical companies. They
aren’t carting people into the
doctor’s office and force feeding
them the pills. This isn’t to say
depression isn’t a real problem,
but some people could cure their
depression by living a healthier
lifestyle.
Poor Sleep Habits:
Some of the negative effects of
technology can be linked to the
it has on sleep habits. We get sucked
into online activities that keep us up
too late and the constant stream of
information can make it difficult to
turn off our brains. Also, the ambient
glow from screens can affect the
release of melatonin, the sleep
chemical. Keeping technology out of
the bedroom would be a very
habit to acquire.
Any Question?
Thank You Everyone!
