The Philistines were 5 city-states located along the coast east of Israel. Jonathan attacked a Philistine outpost and sparked a larger conflict. Saul failed to follow God's commands and wait for Samuel at Gilgal before offering a sacrifice. As a result, God rejected Saul as king and chose David, a man after his own heart, to lead Israel. Jonathan emerged as a brave and inspiring warrior who the people sided with over his father Saul due to his great deliverance of Israel.
This document discusses how God is sovereign and in control over all things, both good and bad. It provides several biblical references that indicate God creates calamity and disaster, punishes disobedience, and sets kings/leaders over nations. Overall, the document asserts that nothing happens apart from God's will and that obedience brings reward while disobedience results in punishment.

This document discusses deforestation and its impact on giant pandas. It notes that deforestation has led to habitat loss and fragmentation for giant pandas, reducing their populations to under 1,000 remaining in small, isolated groups. Deforestation of bamboo forests in China has occurred as human settlement expanded, decreasing panda habitat by half between 1974 and 1989. Continued deforestation and lack of habitat connectivity now puts giant pandas at risk of local extinctions within reserves. Conservation efforts include plans to expand reserves and create habitat corridors.

3. A key message is that when life seems unfair, believers should let God work things out according to His purposes and trust that He causes all things to work for good.
God promises that Judah will be protected from Syria and Israel, who plan to invade. The prophet Isaiah is sent to reassure King Ahaz of Judah, telling him not to be afraid and promising that the invading kingdoms will be destroyed within 65 years. However, when offered a sign by God, Ahaz refuses. So God himself promises a sign: a virgin will conceive and bear a son named Immanuel. Before this child is old enough, the threatened kingdoms will be destroyed by Assyria. Ahaz later submits to Assyria instead of trusting in God's promise of protection.

Jotham was king of Judah for 16 years, beginning at age 25. He generally did what was right in God's sight and followed the good examples of his father Uzziah, though the people remained corrupt. Jotham built up defenses, fought successfully against the Ammonites, and prospered because he prepared his ways before the Lord. However, he died at the young age of 41 and was succeeded by his son Ahaz, whose character and reign were not as righteous.

Mordecai agrees to do as Esther has commanded, demonstrating their willingness to trust God even in the face of peril.

Esther was a Jewish orphan living in Persia after the exile from Jerusalem. She was chosen to be queen to replace Vashti. Mordecai learned of a plot by Haman to kill all Jews.

Now there was in the citadel of Susa a Jew of
the tribe of Benjamin, named Mordeci son of Jair,
the son of Shimei, the son of Kish who had
been carried into exile from Jerusalem by
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, among those
taken captive with Jehoiachin, king of Judah.
- Esther 2:5
3. influence
Mordeci had a cousin named Hadassah, whom he
had brought up because she had no father or
mother. This girl, who was also known as Esther,
was lovely in form and features, and Mordeci had
taken her as his own daughter when her father
and mother had died.
- Esther 2:7
5. influence
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of
all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so
that we can comfort those in any trouble with the
comfort we ourselves have received from God.
- II Corinthians 1:3

Everyday he walked back and forth near the
courtyard of the harem to find out how Esther was
and what was happening to her.

She asked for nothing other than what Hegai, the
king’s eunuch who was in charge of the harem,
suggested. And Esther won the favor of everyone
who saw her.

But Esther had kept her secret of her family
background and nationality, just as Mordecai
had told her to do, for she continued to follow
Mordecai’s instructions as she had done when he
was bringing her up.

Then Haman said to King Xerxes, “There is a
certain people dispersed and scattered among the
peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom whose
customs are different from those of all other people,
who do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the
best interest to tolerate them. If it pleases the king,
let a decree be issued to destroy them.”

When Mordecai learned of all that had been done,

and went out into the city, wailing loudly and
bitterly . . . there was great mourning among the
Jews, with fasting weeping and wailing.

Do not think that because you are in the king’s
house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For
if you remain silent at this time, relief and de-
liverance for the Jews will arise from another
place, but you and your father’s family will perish.
And who knows but that you have come to royal
position for such a time as this?
