SPANISH EDUCATION SYSTEM

Introduction:
Spanish Constitution in 1812. Since then, its conception has been changing and going through
several political systems and forms of government, resulting in progress and setbacks until to
date.
At present, the structure of the Spanish education system is guided by the Fundamental Law
on Education (Ley Orgánica de Educación, LOE) approved in 2006. This Law is based on the
principles and grounds set forth by the Spanish Constitution and highlights the inclusive nature
of education, equality and non-discrimination in the treatment of people.
The LOE sets forth that basic education consists of ten years of schooling developed on a regular
basis between the age of six and sixteen, organized in primary and secondary education.
