Vanaf 1 januari 2013 is de AOW-leeftijd met één maand verhoogd. De komende jaren zal de AOW-leeftijd waarop je voor het eerst AOW ontvangt, verder stijgen. In de ogen van het CNV heeft deze verhoging alleen nut als het werknemers ook echt lukt om langer door te werken. Werknemers moeten niet al op 55-jarige leeftijd aan de kant komen te staan. Om te zorgen dat werknemers ook daadwerkelijk langer kunnen doorwerken hebben sociale partners in 2011 een aantal afspraken gemaakt.
