This document discusses research on conducted energy devices (CEDs, commonly known as Tasers) and their impact on police officer injuries. It summarizes two studies that found low rates of officer injury associated with CED use. A study of the Lincoln, Nebraska police department found officers were injured in 4 out of 26 incidents involving CEDs. A study of the Seattle Police Department found officers sustained injuries in only 5% of incidents where a CED was deployed. The document concludes that with their low injury rates for officers, CEDs have become a preferred less-lethal option for gaining control of suspects.
