Assignment Overview
Before starting on this assignment, make sure to thoroughly review the required background materials. This assignment will require you to use the various discounted cash flow methods and dividend models to make computations. In addition to knowing the computational steps involved in stock and bond valuation, make sure you also understand the basic concepts.
Submit your answers as a Word document. Make sure to show your work for all quantitative questions, and make sure to fully explain your answers using references to the background readings for any conceptual questions. Questions 1 and 3 will require Excel, so submit an Excel file that shows your computational steps as a separate file in addition to your Word file. Question 4 is purely conceptual, no computations are necessary but make sure to apply and reference concepts from the required readings in your answers to each of the scenarios.
Case Assignment
1. Suppose you buy a bond that will pay $1000 in ten years along with an annual coupon payment of $50 and the interest rate is 4%. Answer the following questions:
A. What is the value of this bond?
B. Now suppose the bond has no coupon payments (it is a “zero coupon” bond) but still pays $1000 in ten years. What is the value of this bond?
C. What would happen to the value of the bond if the inflation rate unexpectedly goes up? What the bond value increase or decrease?
D. Now suppose the bond still pays an annual coupon of $50 but the interest rate drops to 2%. What is the new value of this bond?
2. The XYZ Corporation pays a dividend of $1 for each share and its required rate of return is 8%. Answer the following questions:
A. Assuming zero growth in dividends, what is the value of each share?
B. Now assume a 4% annual growth rate in the dividend paid. What is the value of each share?
C. Assume the growth rate is still 4%, but the required rate of return drops to 6%. What is the new value of each share?
3. Acme Medical Corp. is expecting the cash flows from 2018-2022 in the table below. After 2022 it is expecting growth in cash flow at an annual rate of 3%. The firm has determined that its weighted average cost of capital (discount rate) is 7%. Using the table below calculate the following:
A. What is the present value of Acme’s future cash flows using the discounted cash flow model?
B. If the firm has 200,000 common shares outstanding, zero preferred shares, and debt with a market value of $10,000,000 what would be the value of each share?
C. Now suppose the discount rate increases to 10%. How would your answers to a) and b) above change based on the new discount rate?

Comprehensive Project
OBJECTIVE
Financial Statement Analysis project involves a team of students analyzing financial statements of two (2) companies from the same industry and prepare a written analysis as well as recommendations.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Investors depend on the information from financial statements in making investment decisions. However, if a company's financial information is used or shared before it is released to the public, this could cause substantial movement in the price of a company's stock. Some individuals do not see anything unethical about insider trading, yet it is a criminal offense, one for which even well-known and respected individuals have served, and are serving, time in prison. CPAs agree to a professional code of conduct upon licensure, but it is important to develop your own conclusions regarding the ethical implications of financial reporting, planning, and decision making within an organization.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
· Competency 2: Examine regulatory, ethical, and credibility issues in accounting
1. Analyze how insider trading may affect general business management planning and decision making.
1. Analyze the ethical implications related to financial decisions concerning inside information.
. Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is professional and consistent with expectations for members of the business professions.

A1: Experiential Learning Project:
Apply the Design Thinking Approach to the creation of a new service and prepare a presentation of the entire process.
The presentation should include all the following major steps of Design Thinking Approach:
a) Understand. Referring to available sources (own experience, outside experts …) research the status quo on
the concept you would like to develop
b) Observe: conduct an ethnographic research by firsthand observation of potential users
c) Ideate: create as many ideas as possible (use techniques as brainstorming). Select the most promising idea
d) Prototype: translate the idea into a simple representation of the app
e) Test: the model with target users. Interact with them. Observe their reactions and behavior and collect
feed-backs to refine the concept
f) The work should also include the marketing plan of the new service.
Outcome requirements:
The slide/visual presentation (format can be selected by the team) will contain the steps in the agenda
mentioned above and it will present the service concept. A visual representation of the service is mandatory.
The Experiential Learning Project will be scored across four (4) attributes based on:
a) Applying the Design Thinking Model. For this first score, the instructor will assess the extent to which
students are able to apply the model into a simulated-real life situation
b) Transforming observations and data into usable information. For this second score, the instructor will
evaluate the extent to which students were able to organize information collected on field analysis in a
presentable fashion (i.e., table, figures, videos …)
c) Creativity: For the third score, the instructor will assess the extent to which students are able to apply
creativity in a new service development and into the presentation itself
d) Original Results: For the fourth score, the instructor will assess the extent to which students are able to

Week 2/SEC 10K Assignment The Balance Sheet and Credit Risk Analysis
Credit risk encompasses a company’s ability to meet its obligations as they arise as well as a long-run ability to pay its debt. A company may be profitable but yet face bankruptcy if it is unable to pay its liabilities on time. Companies with large amounts of debt have greater credit risk because of an increased vulnerability to increases in interest rates and declines in profitability.
In this assignment, you will answer questions about your company’s classified balance sheet and conduct a ratio analysis to evaluate the company’s liquidity and solvency. A financial ratio expresses the relationship of one amount to another and enables analysts to quickly assess a company’s financial strength, profitability, or other aspects of its financial activities.
Requirements
In the first section, define liabilities and describe how liabilities are classified as current and long-term (give examples). Also define liquidity and solvency as it relates to the company’s debt-paying ability. What does your company call its ‘Balance Sheet’?
In the second section, define working capital, the current ratio, and the debt ratio, three frequently used ratios to assess credit risk (described in LEO’s online text or any principles of accounting text). Identify which are a measure of liquidity and which are a measure of solvency. Indicate how the ratio is interpreted. Is an increasing or decreasing ratio a favorable trend? Conduct online research to provide a ratio level (or range) that is considered acceptable for the current and debt ratio (technically, working capital is not a ratio so an average isn’t meaningful). If you can find information on acceptable ranges for the current ratio and debt ratio for your company’s industry, include that in your discussion. Numbers and ratios are more meaningful when considered relative to a benchmark. Benchmarks can be the company’s past performance, a similar company’s performance, an industry average, or a rule-of- thumb. For instance, for decades, a current ratio of 2 to 1 was considered satisfactory.
In the third section, prepare a table giving the dollar amount of current and long-term liabilities for the most recent year and the previous year. Either in the same table or a new table report the results of a ratio analysis. Calculate working capital, current ratio, and the debt ratio for the current year and the past year (show your calculations). Indicate whether the ratios are improving or deteriorating. If you find a relevant benchmark (industry average or rule-of-thumb), comment on your company’s performance relative to the benchmark.
Finally, in the fourth section briefly summarize results of any or all of the following: 1) an internet search for articles on recent events that may affect your company’s debt paying ability, 2) an internet search for financial analysts’ assessment of the company’s credit risk and or.
