This document discusses using wearable wireless body area sensor networks to increase telepresence for in-home telerehabilitation of geriatric patients. It describes a telerehabilitation platform developed with videoconferencing equipment and software interfaces to allow remote clinical assessment and therapy. While videoconferencing provides visual and audio feedback, it is limited for interpreting detailed movement and physiological responses. The use of wearable sensors transmitting data wirelessly could provide additional information to complement traditional telerehabilitation and better allow clinicians to monitor patients remotely. Zigbee wireless technology may be well-suited for this type of wireless body area sensor network application.
