The Padma River in Bangladesh is a vital resource for public transport and business, influencing the country's economy and GDP. The Padma Multipurpose Bridge has improved connectivity between the southern-west regions of Bangladesh and the capital, Dhaka, creating new economic prospects and job openings. The quality of transport and communication system is crucial for driving economic growth, and the Padma bridge has significantly impacted the lives of almost 30 million individuals in the southwestern region. Mongla Port (MP), the second seaport in Bangladesh, has experienced a notable upsurge in activity due to government initiatives. The port offers facilities and services to international shipping lines and other agencies, and has a strategic position to support international trade. The independently funded Padma Bridge will contribute to Bangladesh's development industry's improvement by 29%, agricultural sector's increase by 9.5%, and industrial and transportation sectors' boom by 8%.

2. Introduction
• The Padma Bridge is a multipurpose
bridge constructed across the Padma
River in Bangladesh.
• The Bridge has connected Mawa with
Jajira, linking the south-west of the
country to the northern and eastern
regions.
• The Padma Multipurpose Bridge is
estimated to boost the country's annual
GDP by 1.23 percent.
• Similarly, the southwestern region's
GDP is projected to increase by 2.5
percent.

• Mongla Port, the second seaport of Bangladesh
is located in Bagerhat District.
• Mongla Port stands in a strategic position to
support international trade.
• The Padma bridge has significantly reduced
travel time and distance between Mongla and
Dhaka, attracting Dhaka's business community
to choose Mongla Port.
• After opening of Padma Bridge, the
international trade through Mongla Port
increased significantly.
• The impact of Padma bridge to boost the trade
through Mongla port could be evaluated
through a comprehensive study.

5. Objective
The overall objective of the study is to
evaluate the impact of Padma bridge to
boost the trade through Mongla port. The
specific objectives are:
 To study the previous and present export
and import scenario through Mongla Port.
 To study the value of commodities
handled through Mongla Port before and
after Padma bridge.
 To study the revenue earning of
government through Mongla port before
and after Padma bridge.
