About Illuxtron International
Optimal efficiency
We do not design our products just to meet standard norms.
We aim to exceed these norms. Our luminaires are designed to
provide a consistent light output and light colour for many years
to come. Illuxtron products are made to last. One of the many
advantages of LEDs is their long lifetime, which is due to the
absence of movable parts or, for example, filaments that can
break. When a LED's light output has dropped to 70% of its initial
light output, it is time to replace it. This measure is also called
L70. A typical L70 lifetime is at least 50.000 hours, depending on
the temperature of the diode. At high temperatures, the blue chip
and phosphor layer degenerate, leading ultimately to light loss.
All Illuxtron products are therefore designed to include heat sinks
that keep temperatures as low as possible. This also gives our
products a higher-than-average lifetime. Our R&D department not
only makes sure that our luminaires are cooled optimally, but also
optimises light output and colour rendering.
We aim to contribute to improving the environment, and one way
of doing this is to develop ever more efficient luminaires.
Quality support
Every manufacturer receives occasional reports of defects. When
we receive such a report, the matter is immediately taken very
seriously. Our Quality Support Manager works together with our
product engineers to find ways of correcting the defect. Once
the cause of the defect has been clearly identified, all fixtures
are optimised in order to prevent the same defect from occurring
again. Due to this approach, our failure rate is constantly going
down. We always try to find adequate solutions for our clients
and are also always prepared to provide advice. This way, we try
to build long-term relationships with our clients so that we can
respond exactly to their specific needs. This can be seen in our
warranty conditions.
Quality assurance
Our materials are produced and supplied by market leaders
such as TCI, Cree, Seoul Semiconductors, Nichia, Lumileds, TE
Electronics, Wieland and Bergh Hybrid Circuits. Working exclusively
with top-quality materials and components ensures that we can make

The flicker effects of lighting
Light flicker is a well-known problem. As it is the light source that flickers,
people tend to think that something is wrong with it, but that is often
not the case. Flicker is usually caused by the light source's electrical
environment. This often means that the power grid (230 V, 50-60 Hz)
is not supplying “clean” current. Also, if a dimmer is used, it can be the
cause of the flickering.
Back in the days of incandescent light bulbs, light flicker existed already in
the form of slow variations in light intensity. Modern LED lighting, however,
reacts faster to variations in electrical current or voltage, so there is less
chance of annoying flicker. Human perception of flicker is determined
by factors such as age and viewing angle. Our central vision (a couple of

peripheral vision can detect faster variations. In general, the human eye
can perceive variations of between 30 and 60 light flickers per second
(30 in older people and 60 in young people).

Generally, LED lighting operating on a 50 Hz network will flicker 100 times
per second, which no one is able to detect. But it can be dangerous or
annoying around fast-turning machines or video systems with high image
frequencies. A lathe, for example, can appear to be idle because of the
stroboscopic effect. Also, dimmers can lower the frequency of flickering
and thus cause it to become visible.
Low-voltage systems for LED lighting often use drivers that provide pure
direct current. This totally eliminates flicker. Flicker can still occur in low-
voltage (LV) systems if a driver does not supply constant smooth direct
current, but direct current with some ripple. Cheap drivers sometimes
provide current with 20% or more ripple, causing the same amount of
flicker percentage (and at a frequency of 100 Hz). Illuxtron also supplies
low-ripple drivers that have less than 3% ripple, which effectively
eliminates visible flicker. It is especially important to have flicker-free light
when combining with video systems, because their image refresh rate
may cause interference that leads to annoying flicker effects.
Dimmed low-voltage systems may experience high-frequency flicker
(ca 250 Hz). Usually this is not annoying, but in the presence of video
systems and fast-moving machinery (lathes, etc.) this can cause
unwanted interference.
Illuxtron works continuously on improving its high-voltage luminaires to
reduce flicker effects. The HV-IC versions (600 lm or higher light output)
have an integrated circuit (IC) that reduces flicker as much as possible.
The cheaper high-voltage 400 lm versions are not available with an IC
module and are therefore not suitable for work or living spaces.
In summary, there are four
possible causes of flicker:
1. 100 Hz flicker from HV spotlights connected directly (without driver)
to a 50 Hz alternating-current network.
2. Disturbances in the power grid that cause temporary voltage
fluctuations which, in turn, cause variations in the light of any
connected spotlights.
3. Flicker due to the use of an unsuitable dimmer.
4. Flicker caused by TF (tone frequency) control signals (in Belgium:
CAB) in the electric network (these are used for remotely switching
between day and night rates). This type of flicker also occurs often
when there are dimmers that do not function well in the presence of
TF signals.

Technical Partnership between
Bartenbach and Illuxtron
International
Illuxtron International and Austrian company Bartenbach started a
technical partnership in the field of reflector technology in 2015.
Prior to developing the new products, our RD team set out some
quality requirements that the products had to meet in terms of lighting
technology. Both RD teams worked on developing “Dark Light”
reflectors for our mini downlights and the Aviora panel.
Reflector
The reflectors developed in collaboration with Bartenbach feature
high-reflection facets that allows us to guarantee high light output. In
addition, the reflector's usual facets have extra microfacets that direct the
maximum amount of light in the right direction. This enables us to project
as much light as possible onto the work surface. All reflectors are fitted
with a protective glass that prevents loss of light output due to deposits on
the mirror surface.
Low UGR (unified glare rating)
Beam width is usually determined at 50% of the highest lux value in
the beam (full width half maximum). However, there is often still a lot of
scattered light outside of this beam width that causes annoying glare.
For this reason Bartenbach also uses beam angles at 10% value (full
width tenth maximum). The Fabio 35 reflector, for example, is 2x22.9°
at 50% value (FWHM) and only 2x32.7° at 10% value (FWTM). When
we compare this with a standard GU10 halogen bulb of 2x12°, the beam
angle at 10% is actually wider than the 2x32.7°. This means that in
practice a standard GU10 bulb will cause a lot more glare than the Fabio
35 reflector.
Perfect light colour
In addition to the above, the light of all four LEDs contained in the reflector
cup is mixed to the limit, creating a light beam without any yellow spots.
This is particularly important for versions that use two warm-white and
two neutral-white LEDs.

BLE-ND
The name BLE-ND means: Bluetooth Low
Energy - New Definition. It is a new technology
designed by our engineers to enable changing
the light colour from warm white to cool white,
as well as creating RGB colours. Use our app
to make your own groups of luminaires and set
them as you want. This innovation has been
integrated into some of our luminaires.
Natural white light
A cool white and warm white LED combined
with an amber and red LED makes it possible
to produce extremely high-quality white light
adjustable from 1800K to 4000K with a
Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of up to 97. This
results in very natural colour rendering. The
additional red, green and blue LEDs provide
RGB functionality. The six different LEDs, each
with its individual channel, can be conveniently
controlled from your smartphone or tablet!
Mood light
The dimmed feel of traditional incandescent
light is emulated by the use of red and amber
LEDs in combination with white LEDs. In
addition, this product is also fitted with green
and blue LEDs that make it possible to create
millions of RGB light colours.
Wireless technology
The luminaire can be controlled by means of
Bluetooth technology. A ‘mesh network’ will be
implemented in the future.

A very efficient all-in-one luminaire that can
not only display white colour ranging from

Motion detector
Our luminaires with integrated motion detectors are best installed in
smaller spaces that require a single light source, such as toilets and
corridors. The luminaire is independently controlled and therefore cannot
be used in a ‘master/slave’ combination.
Installation options
Sensor-fitted luminaires can be installed in toilets, corridors, storage
spaces, garages, barns, and under front- or back-door canopies or glass
awnings.
Complex software
Whether a sensor that is integrated into a luminaire functions well
depends on temperature differences within electronic circuits, harmonic
interference, power surges, and inrush current from other devices, to
name but a few possibilities. All these factors are taken into account by
our complex software, ensuring that the sensor functions correctly.
Quad PIR sensor
Both the sensor and lens come from Murata Electronics, a global leader
in the design, manufacture and supply of advanced electronic materials.
The sensor is a Quad type, which is used exclusively in spaces where
sensitivity and reliability are essential.

Light colour can be adjusted by turning the device off and on again within
a two-second time frame. This can be done using a manual switch. When
the device has been off for a longer period of time, it will maintain the last
light colour used.

Multiple Lumen Output
You can choose a luminaire with a TCI power supply from our MLM
collection, or make your own luminaire-driver combination from our
MLMC range. Illuxtron International offers a wide selection of TCI power
supplies that come with a Plug Play cable so they are easy to connect
to any MLMC luminaire. The TCI drivers can be configured to provide
multiple output currents through the DIP Switch settings. You will receive
the standard product with the highest output current, unless you specify
the desired lumen/output-current setting when ordering your MLM(C)
product.
Logistical efficiency
The MLMC concept -keeping luminaires and drivers separate- gives you
the advantage of increased logistical efficiency. You can stock a number
of different MLMC downlights and panels, as well as TCI drivers. This
gives you greater flexibility when creating any ‘lumen output’ combinations
you may require for your last-minute projects.
Plug Play connection
A very reliable Tyco (TE) connection system provides unprecedented
ease of installation. TE connectivity is a leader in technology that designs
and manufactures high-quality electronic connection systems, offering
smarter, safer and greener solutions. Plug Play also gives you the
enormous advantage of being able to install luminaires yourself after
painting your ceiling. There is no need to engage an installer.

Energy-saving alternative to
fluorescent lighting
You can't just compare Illuxtron panels with standard LED panels. Ours is
a modern collection with articles that last a long time and save significant
amounts of energy compared with TL lighting. Their soft, homogeneously
distributed light provides optimum comfort in terms of vision and perfect
colour rendering (CRI80). Our LED panels are available in sizes 595 x
595 mm and 1,195 x 295 mm (standard panel formats).
Inner diffuser
The first diffuser located inside the LED panel makes sure that the light
is smoothly and evenly projected. Even when set at low light output or
dimmed, the light will spread evenly.
LED positioning
Illuxtron LED panels are designed as a 'back lighting' solution: multiple
LED boards are symmetrically positioned across the panel's entire
surface. This creates optimum heat dissipation, with its ensuing positive
effect on efficacy. Our efficacy rate of more than 160 lm/W makes us
the market leader. Even more importantly, it increases the lifespan and
reliability of the panels.
Outer diffuser
The second diffuser is meant to reduce glare. This is ideal for office
spaces. The diffuser's pyramid model is specially designed to ensure the
panel's UGR rating is as low as possible.
LED panels

guarantees a longer lifespan
• The diffusers have been designed to ensure UGR values of

High quality fixture
The metal fixture construction is manufactured in Europe in fully
automated production lines. This results in extremely low material
tolerances and prevents defects. Our fixtures are sprayed with a Dupont
epoxy powder coating which ensures that even after prolonged use there
is no visible discolouring.
Heat dissipation
You would want the panel to still produce sufficient light after years of use.
Due to their positioning in the back of the housing, the LEDs are optimally
cooled and even after 70,000 operating hours you will notice no
difference in light output. So if you want an installation that is problem free
for many years, a back lighting solution is your choice.

The best of two worlds
Bartenbach reflector technology
What makes the Aviora unique is the applied reflector technology
developed by Illuxtron International in collaboration with Austrian company
Bartenbach, renowned for developing innovative lighting concepts.
Bartenbach is the specialist in the field of reflector technology, and
Illuxtron's partnership with Bartenbach enables it to apply the latest
techniques in the field of optical systems in the Aviora.
Low UGR and little scattered light
Due to the application of Bartenbach's special Dark Light Technology,
the Aviora has an extremely low UGR rating. In fact, at the most common
Lumen output of 3,400 the Aviora's UGR rating is 16, which is quite low
considering the maximum rating for office environments is usually 19.
It is very difficult to look directly into the light, making this fixture ideal for
office applications. Low UGR ratings have been shown to bring down
error rates.
Extremely economical
The luminaire's efficiency is very high. The special structure of the
reflector's microfacets creates a beam angle of 95° (FWTM), so there
is little scattered light. This fixture, therefore, directs its light where you
want it, down on the workspot, and not high up the walls. This makes
it possible to attain the norm of 500 lux on the workspot in a room
measuring 5 x 5 m with only 4 x 20 W.
• Application of Bartenbach's special Dark Light Technology
with ultra-low UGR rating. At the most common Lumen
output of 3,400 the UGR rating is 16.
• Ideal for office applications
• Special structure of reflector microfacets creates a 95°
beam angle (FWTM), so there is little scattered light

Leading Cree technology
The 185 LV+PS Series uses Cree's LMH2+ LED module. This is the only
LED module capable of producing up to 125 lumen per watt (110 lm/W
after driver loss) in combination with a CRI of around 95 with any colour
temperature.
Low heat generation
To guarantee optimal functioning and lifespan, maximum junction
temperature must not exceed 70°C. Under normal conditions (around
25°C) the following maximum temperatures have been recorded:
1400 Lm - 49°C
2200 Lm - 57°C
3500 Lm - 68°C
The fixture contains a thermal safety system that prevents the luminaire
from overheating. When overheating is detected, the fixture is
automatically turned off to prevent damage.
Optical management system
The integrated optical management system ensures consistent light
output and also maintains colour temperature.
“TrueWhite” technology
A better way to generate white light is to use a patented mix of
unsaturated yellow and red LEDs. This results in an unprecedented
lumen-per-watt ratio in combination with an extremely high CRI of 95.
White diffuser
IP-protected optics ensure uniform functioning both when the luminaire is
on and when it is off.
Colour Rendering Index
The 185 LV+PS Series is ideal for commercial applications that
require high CRI, luminous flux, and efficacy, such as restaurants, retail
establishments, and other catering facilities.
Rg value
In addition to high CRI, colour saturation is also important for the natural
rendering of objects. Our Rg of 105 is very close to the highest attainable
value.

TE connectivity
The patented COB LED connector ensures excellent heat conduction
through the heat sink throughout the lifespan of the device.
COB LED
These luminaires feature the newest generation of highly efficient
‘Chip on Board’ (COB) LEDs.
Protective glass
The protective glass shields the LED and reflector mirror from the
environment. It has been shown that corrosion, smoke and/or dust can
damage LED fixtures, causing light loss of up to 50% during the lifespan
of the product. The protective glass built into our Illuxtron COB luminaires
provides extra protection, allowing our luminaires to last longer without
light loss.

3-Phase adapter
The Linea Track Spot is fitted with an original 3-Phase adapter from
Nordic Aluminium. The additional mounting clip on the fixture holds it
firmly in place on the rails and makes it also suitable for vertical mounting.
Heat sink
The unique thermal design allows for a lumen output of up to 5,700 lm for
various versions.
Reflector
We offer different reflectors for various beam widths.
CRI96
A standard CRI96 version that can produce incredibly beautiful effects in
colourful shops is available. Clothing colours, in particular, are rendered

Compliant with health norms
TCI's ripple-free LED drivers ( 3%) ensure the lowest possible level of
flicker. Research has shown that there is a relationship between flicker
and health. It is, therefore, important to use lighting systems with a low
flicker index in both commercial and living spaces.
Video/photo proof
Lighting with a low flicker index is essential in areas where photo and film
cameras are used. Flickering light has a negative effect on the quality of
pictures and film footage.
Power-surge protection
Most TCI drivers are protected against power surges of up to 4 kV. This is
considerably above the 1 kV norm. Many LEDs are protected up to 500 V.
The surge protection in TCI drivers results in an extremely low defect
percentage of 0.1%.
Higher light output
A LED driver with a lower ripple factor is 5% more efficient in terms of
light output.
Ripple free
TCI LED drivers are fitted with a multi-stage circuit to provide the LEDs
with a perfect current (pure direct current). Low-quality drivers with a high
ripple factor can cause health problems including headache, eye strain,
impaired vision or, in extreme cases, even epileptic seizure.
Low temperature
Under normal use temperature stays well below the manufacturer's
recommended maximum temperature. This makes it possible to
guarantee a long lifespan of seven years even at 45°C ambient
temperature.

Technology Installation
Concrete springs can be used in almost any type of ceiling. Support
plates should definitely be used when mounting big downlights
in soft mineral ceilings. We recommend making the hole in
the backplate 10 mm wider than the specified cutout diameter
(provided this doesn't exceed the maximum diameter).
Wire springs are traditional springs that are eminently suited for
soft ceiling tiles in combination with support plates (that cannot be
taken out of the ceiling). Wire springs are not suitable for concrete
ceilings and soft ceiling tiles without support plates.
Gyproc springs are ideally suited for quick mounting in hard ceiling tiles
without support plates. Gyproc springs do normally come with (bigger)
Linea luminaires only. The spring's slightly bent edge prevents the tile
from getting damaged. Turning the luminaire anti-clockwise fixes it
extra tightly in the tile.
