Baseball began in Mexico in the second half of the 19th century, with the first recorded games played by American soldiers and sailors in various cities in the 1840s-1870s. The sport grew more popular due to cultural exchanges with the United States and Cuba through trade and travel. The Mexican Club, founded in Mexico City in 1887, was considered the oldest baseball team in Mexico.
