This document provides an overview of the International Education Standard (IES) 3 on initial professional development of professional skills for aspiring professional accountants. IES 3 establishes 4 competence areas (intellectual, interpersonal and communication, personal, and organizational) and 24 learning outcomes. It requires accounting education programs to support achieving these competencies by the end of initial professional development. Programs must be regularly reviewed and updated. Assessment activities must also be established to measure students' achievement of professional skills based on IES 3.
