This study aimed to determine if a nursing intervention delivered at emergency department discharge could reduce emergency department revisits. The randomized controlled trial was conducted at a tertiary cardiac hospital in Montreal, Quebec. Patients discharged from the emergency department were randomly assigned to either receive the nursing intervention or usual care. The nursing intervention involved providing education on medication management, follow-up care instructions, and symptom monitoring. The results showed that the nursing intervention significantly reduced emergency department revisits within 30 days compared to the usual care group.

Of 248 ALCAPA patients, 71 (29%) underwent repair at age 1 year or older. This document summarizes the findings of analyzing whole genome sequences from 560 breast cancer samples. It identified 93 cancer genes with probable driver mutations. Some non-coding regions had high mutation frequencies but most had distinctive structural features causing elevated mutation rates rather than harboring driver mutations. Mutation signature analysis was also extended to genome rearrangements, revealing 12 substitution signatures and six rearrangement signatures. Three rearrangement signatures associated with defective homologous recombination DNA repair, one with defective BRCA1 function and another with defective BRCA1 or BRCA2 function. The causes of the third signature are unknown.

This multicenter study characterized patients with anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) who underwent repair after 1 year of age. Of 248 ALCAPA patients, 71 (29%) underwent repair at age 1 year or older. These older patients were more likely to present with cardiac arrest but less likely to have left ventricular dysfunction or mitral regurgitation compared to infants. Postoperatively, most older patients showed good recovery of left ventricular function and size, though chronic mitral regurgitation and arrhythmias remained common. Survival rates were excellent, with only 1 operative death and no late deaths among this older cohort.

This study analyzed angiographic data from 3,428 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome in the ACUITY trial to determine the incidence and impact of intraprocedural thrombotic events (IPTE). IPTE occurred in 121 patients (3.5%) and was associated with significantly higher rates of major adverse cardiac events, including death, myocardial infarction, and stent thrombosis at in-hospital, 30-day, and 1-year follow-up compared to patients without IPTE. -Percutaneous annuloplasty for the treatment of functional mitral regurgitation in patients with heart failure. The global clinical trial has been completed and the data has been submitted to the European Committee for device registration.
-Trans-Apical annuloplasty for the treatment of functional mitral regurgitation using a hybrid combined approach of surgical and percutaneous techniques. Feasibility study in humans has been completed.
-One of the original researchers that described the transcaval access to the cardiovascular system, a novel percutaneous approach that allows patients with peripheral vascular disease undergo percutaneous procedures with minimal risk. Dr. Martinez-Clark co-founded TransCaval Solutions, Inc, a medical device company dedicated to create purpose built access and closure technology that facilitates the transcaval access. The technique won the Best of the Best Abstract Award at The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI)'s 2014 meeting. Dr. Martinez-Clark obtained funding from private investors to develop and market his medical device to treat over 154,000 patients annually who can not be treated with conventional technical devices, thus creating a $ 2.2 billion market opportunity in 2020.
