Jainism places great importance on non-violence and rejects the caste system and Vedic practices. Its principles focus on right belief, knowledge, and conduct to lead a virtuous life. Jain saints practiced celibacy and encouraged building stone pillars, cave temples, and statues, such as the large statue of Gomateshwara at Sravanabelagola in Karnataka. While Buddhism and Jainism used common languages, divisions between the Svetambara and Digambara factions led to Jainism's decline.
