The document summarizes several news stories related to the airline industry:
1) Air France KLM approved an order for 110 new long-haul aircraft from Airbus and Boeing that will replace older planes and support growth. This is the first joint order by Air France and KLM and will include A350 and 787 planes.
2) Skymark Airlines selected Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines to power 6 Airbus A380s on order, citing the engine's superior fuel efficiency and reliability.
3) The International Air Cargo Association urged the EU to suspend its emissions trading scheme for aviation, arguing it oversteps sovereign authority and will impose massive new taxes on the industry without guaranteeing funds will
Kingfisher Airlines sought a government bailout as it cancelled 40 more flights due to financial troubles. The airline's shares hit a record low and hundreds of passengers were inconvenienced. While the civil aviation minister said he would discuss assistance for Kingfisher, a BJP leader criticized the idea of a government bailout for a private company. Meanwhile, the MA600 Chinese turboprop will make its international debut at the Dubai Airshow, and Aeroflot plans to purchase Airbus A320s and Sukhoi Superjet 100s to upgrade regional fleets. Additionally, Airbus halted production of its A340 long-haul aircraft due to lack of orders over the past two years.
The Association of European Airlines released traffic data for May 2010 and projections for June 2010. In May, passenger traffic was up 4.3% over May 2009, driven by a 5.5% increase to the Far East. The traffic increase was accommodated by a 0.2% rise in capacity, improving load factors to 76.2%. Airfreight volumes grew 17.3%, the highest increase in over 15 years. Preliminary data for June indicates passenger traffic growth of around 8%, largely due to Far Eastern routes, which could be the first sign that traffic has recovered to pre-recession levels.
IBA Airline strategy - Possible cost benefits of an ageing aircraft fleetbenjacques
The document discusses airline strategy regarding operating older aircraft from 14-25 years versus replacing aircraft. It notes that while maintenance costs increase with aircraft age, leasing costs decrease, resulting in a relatively flat total cost curve. Operating older aircraft requires more training for mechanics, additional maintenance resources, and focus on passenger cabin experience to prevent the perception of an aging fleet. Overall, the document argues that for airlines used to new aircraft, operating in the 14-25 year range could produce cost savings and suit financial, operations, and customer needs.
This document lists the four seasons of the year and provides the same website for each season. The website www.voyaprenderingles.com is referenced for spring, summer, autumn and winter.
The Association of European Airlines (AEA) reported that its member airlines saw a 20 million decrease in passengers in 2009 compared to 2008, with passenger traffic down 4.5% and the number of passengers boarded down 5.8%. Freight traffic fared even worse, decreasing 16.5%. All major regions saw decreases in traffic. While load factors improved in the latter half of the year, overall load factor still decreased slightly. The AEA Secretary General said the industry faced an "astonishing year" and its effects will be felt for years to come.

European Wake Turbulence Categorisation and Separation Minima on Approach and Departure
This document presents the European wake turbulence categories and separation minima on approach and departure, “RECAT-EU”, available for operational deployment.
The demand is high for airport capacity and efficiency at some European airports, and in particular for increased runway throughput.
During recent years, knowledge about wake vortex behaviour in the operational environment has increased thanks to measured data and improved understanding of physical processes. It is mainly for this reason that it was possible to revise wake turbulence categorisation and corresponding separation minima.
The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), in consultation with its Stakeholders, has developed a re-categorisation of ICAO wake turbulence longitudinal separation minima on approach and departure, called “RECAT-EU”.
The RECAT-EU scheme is based on a set of principles, comparing the wake generation and wake resistance between aircraft types, and splitting ICAO HEAVY and MEDIUM categories into ‘Upper’
(‘Larger’) and ‘Lower’ (‘Smaller’). This split has been based on aircraft type characteristics.
This allows reduction of separation minima for some traffic pairs of aircraft, enabling runway throughput increase, whilst maintaining acceptable levels of safety.
The Airbus A380 is the world's largest passenger airliner. It has a double-deck design with space for over 500 passengers. The upper deck extends the entire length of the aircraft. Airbus began developing the A380 in 2000 to compete with the Boeing 747. Major structural sections are built across Europe and assembled in France. The A380 completed its first flight in 2005 and entered commercial service with Singapore Airlines in 2007. Several airlines now use the A380, with Emirates having the most on order.
Germany has a large and innovative aerospace industry, being the third largest in Europe. It has over 155 companies and over 93,000 employees. The industry is growing and projects strong long-term demand. Major global aerospace companies like Airbus and Rolls-Royce have large manufacturing facilities in Germany. The industry focuses on areas like aircraft structures, engines, maintenance, and military aviation. However, the supply chain is fragmented and Germany lacks strong systems integrators. This creates opportunities for foreign companies to partner with German firms or take over work packages.
The document summarizes a speech given by Augustin de Romanet, President of ACI EUROPE, at the European Aviation Summit in Amsterdam. He urged EU member states to implement the European Commission's new Aviation Strategy to take advantage of opportunities in growing aviation markets. However, he also warned that the strategy needs to address challenges to competitiveness within Europe, such as aviation taxes and airport capacity constraints. The director general of ACI EUROPE rejected criticism of airports from a new airline association, arguing that airlines under-pay for airport facilities and services.
The document discusses the history and development of the aircraft industry from early balloon flights in 1783 to modern times. It covers major milestones like the Wright Brothers' first powered flight in 1903 and the development of passenger airlines. The document also summarizes the competition between Boeing and Airbus as the two largest aircraft manufacturers and their new plane models.

Airbus was formed in 1970 as a consortium between French, German, Spanish, and British aircraft manufacturers. It was created to jointly develop and produce the A300, the first twin-engine widebody airliner, to compete with US aircraft makers. Airbus has since grown to become the largest competitor to Boeing. It has secured over 50% of aircraft orders in the past decade through strategies like offering a wider range of aircraft sizes and implementing cutting-edge technologies. Airbus aims to continue growing its market share and revenues through objectives focused on productivity, costs, profits, and satisfying customers.
The document provides information about Frankfinn Institute Of Airhostess Training and a student's research project on the current aviation industry scenario. It discusses sources used like the aviation faculty, newspapers, magazines and the internet. It describes Airbus aircraft models from A300 to A380 and their features. It highlights the growth prospects of the Indian aviation sector and ongoing trends. The student gains knowledge about the industry through this research project.
This document summarizes an essay that examines the evolution of the aviation sector towards increased competition among airports. It discusses how deregulation and the emergence of low-cost airlines has led to more efficient and competitive practices in the industry. However, some barriers to competition still remain, such as dominant hub airports controlling slot allocation, ground handling monopolies, and issues with air traffic control coordination. The essay analyzes these remaining obstacles that prevent the aviation sector from fully realizing the benefits of a contestable market structure.
The document is the May 2019 issue of the monthly newsletter AVI-NEWS published by Avitrue Spares DMCC. The main stories discussed are:
1) Airlines are working to meet the 2021 deadline for new regulations requiring planes to autonomously transmit location in emergencies.
2) Boeing has updated software for the 737 MAX and an FAA panel found it suitable, but regulators still must agree to lift flight bans.
3) IndiGo airline may order more long-range Airbus A321neo planes to expand international routes.
The document provides an overview of the global air cargo market, including:
1) It describes the three major segments of the air cargo industry - air freight, express, and mail - and notes that the top 30 airlines transport 75% of the world's air freight.
2) It shows that the busiest air freight airports are concentrated in Asia, North America, and Europe, with the top three being Hong Kong, Memphis, and Frankfurt.
3) It outlines projections that world air cargo traffic will triple over the next 20 years and the freighter fleet is expected to double, led by large freighters.

Digital Banking in the Cloud: How Citizens Bank Unlocked Their MainframePrecisely
Inconsistent user experience and siloed data, high costs, and changing customer expectations – Citizens Bank was experiencing these challenges while it was attempting to deliver a superior digital banking experience for its clients. Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.
Ever-changing customer expectations demand more modern digital experiences, and the bank needed to find a solution that could provide real-time data to its customer channels with low latency and operating costs. Join this session to learn how Citizens is leveraging Precisely to replicate mainframe data to its customer channels and deliver on their “modern digital bank” experiences.

India Leads EU Levy on Airlines
India has gathered with more than 30 nations to create a
strategy to oppose the European Union’s Emissions Trading
Scheme (EU ETS), which will begin imposing charges on
carriers that fly into the 27 member states at the turn of the
year. Indian civil aviation minister Vayalar Ravi questioned
how the EU can dictate terms to other nations. He also
questioned why everyone would simply accept that.
The EU made the decision in 2008 that airlines should become
part of its ETS after discharges in Europe grew twice over in 20
years. It says emissions from international carriers now IBA’s Comment:

Binit Somaia, the director of South Asia for the Centre for Asia

non-EU carriers, there is a feeling that the EU is stepping over
its authority. Retribution may take the form of equivalent

Phil Seymour’s Notes on the Week
Sometimes in life it is easy to be fast, and fast can be easy. It can also become confusing. Stelios appears to be
putting pressure on Easyjet, which he founded and still owns a considerable slice of, by threatening to create Fast
Jet. We await details but he cannot be serious surely? Is it not easier/cheaper to buy a few more shares and regain
control? Perhaps it is too complex an issue for me to comprehend.
Meanwhile, the first 787 really did deliver this week. It’s about 3 and a half years later than expected, and a little
bit heavier than envisaged. Let’s see if it delivers the passenger appeal that is promised. In summary, the delivery
was not fast or easy.
