Towards resource efficiency with the help of IoT in the 4th industrial revolu...Dario Di Santo
Climate change requires manufacturing companies to change the way they do business, by re-thinking products and services. Resource efficiency will be a key to success, but an increased cooperation among different business functions is fundamental. Internet of things will be an important enabler and will help companies undergo such challenging transformation. The presentation illustrates some key points and the links with energy efficiency and energy management.
Horizon 2020 Information & Networking Webinar - Energy Efficiency | PitchesKTN
The webinar provided background information on various call topics and on support available for both UK and European organisations in how to apply for funding and search for partners. KTN hosted this event on behalf of Innovate UK and was delivered by Viola Hay, KTN, Helen Fairclough, EU Energy Focus, Horizon 2020 National Contact Point for Energy, Gordon Sutherland, EASME, Kerry Young, Microwire Limited, and Giulia Simonelli, EEN.
The webinar gave an overview of H2020 Energy Efficiency Call topics, and support available for UK organisations in how to apply for funding, as well as case studies and hints and tips for applicants. This enabled attendees to gain an insight into the benefits of participating, guidelines for preparing a project outline and the support and collaboration tools available.

In June 2009, Jeju Island Smart Grid Project was conducted by 170 private companies with a budget of approximately $200 million. Its test-bed has become one of the world’s largest smart grid communities that allows for the testing of advanced smart grid technologies and R&D results, as well as the development of business models. The project serves as the founda-tion for the commercialization and industrial export of smart grid technologies. It is expected to greatly contribute to strengthening Korea’s position as a leader in the global smart grid in-dustry, by presenting the lessons and solutions learned from the test bed.

The electric power sector is poised for transformative changes. The growing penetration of distributed energy resources, including distributed generation such as solar PV or fuel cells, electric vehicles, stationary batteries, and demand response, could remake electricity markets, power system operations, and utility business models alike. Regulators, utilities, and new technology companies are now positioning themselves for a new era of electricity innovation. What will the utility sector of the future look like? Who will deliver electricity services a decade or two from now? Who is best positioned to grow market share and capture new market opportunities? Will energy consumers benefit from a more distributed power system?
