What Caused The American Civil War Essay
The American Civil War was a war fought within the United States of America between the North
(Union) and the South (Confederacy) The war was one of the most critical events in American
history. It is estimated that 623,000 soldiers died during the Civil War (Garrison) starting from
1861 and ending in 1865. While many still debate the ultimate causes of the Civil War, author
James McPherson writes that, The Civil War started because of uncompromising differences
between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slaveryin the
territories that had not yet become states. When Abraham Lincolnwon election in 1860 as the first

The Northerners opposed to versus the South who were States were the only regions in the world
that still legalized the ownership of slaves. This angered the Southerners and threatened their way
of life. The election of Abraham Lincoln as the sixteenth president of the united states in November
of 1860 set the stage for division, secession, and civil war (Stokesbury 3) the South felt threatened
when it came to slavery.
There were also economic differences between both regions. The Southern states were agrarian
states, which depended on agriculture rather than industrialization. Slavery was essential to the
South s agrarian economic system, dedicated to producing raw materials for manufacture by others.
(Axelrod 15) After the Cotton Gin was invented, it increased the need for slaves and made cotton
the chief crop of the South. The South was able to produce 7/8 of the world s supply of cotton.
(Axelrod 15) This made the South s dependence on the plantation system slavery. By then, the
North was growing industrially. The north feared that South s slave based economy might affect
their economy. The North depended on factories and other industrialized businesses. As for this
reason many of new immigrants settled north, while few settled south. This allowed the North to
grow industrially, while making the South feel more threatened by them. The Confederacy opposed
any kind of industrialization and manufactured as little as possible. Southern

Blurred Dreams Research Papers
How many days can you work without having sleep? Well the record for longest duration without
sleeping is of 18 days and 22 hours. This person reported aphasia, hallucination, blurred vision. o
Nobody can surely say if somebody is sleeping or not. It is not possible without close medical
observation. Sometimes people sleep and their eyes remain open. This usually happens when
they take a nap. People, sometime, do not even realize that they have slept. o Rapid eye
movement starts generally after 90 minutes of sleep. This state remains up to 2 hours total. o
Rapid eye movement does not guaranty that we are seeing a dream. Dream can be seen even in
the absence of rapid eye movement. o Rapid eye movements dreams are influenced by bizarre plots.

feeding involves forcing animals to eat certain substances over and over just for observation.
What is the point in this? Another experiment performed on animals is killing pregnant animals

That s a life you are taking away. Just imagine if it was you. Animals should only be killed for

Erzebet Bathony Essay
In 1560 Erzebet Bathory was born into one of the oldest and wealthiest families in Transylvania.
Her ancestors had assisted Vlad Dracule during his rise to power; other relatives went on to
become cardinals, princes, Prime Ministers, and King of Poland. She was a healthy, energetic
child, a quality found to be unique for someone of her social status. She was also vain, often
boasting of her fresh complexion that she believed was her best feature. Well educated, Erzebet
was able to both read and write in four languages.
At the age of 11, she was arranged in marriage to 16 year old Ferencz Nadasdy. To Erzebet, an
arrangement was not the same as a commitment and at 14 found herself pregnant after a fling with a
local peasant. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

One day, she believed, she found the answer she had been searching for.
A servant girl was brushing Erzebet s hair when she did something to upset the Countess. Erzebet
struck the girl causing her face to bleed, a few drops falling on Erzebet s hand. As she furiously
wiped away the blood, Erzebet noticed the skin looked younger. She was instantly convinced the
blood of young girls was the key to eternal beauty.
Erzebet s helpers began combing the countryside by the dark of night in search of worthy girls.
Once they were brought to the castle, they were stripped naked and hung upside down by chains.
Then their throats would be slit, the blood draining into a bath below. Erzebet would then bathe in
the fresh warm blood.
She followed this routine for 5 years before she decided the results were much less than she
desired. Undeterred, Erzebet rationalized that better blood was needed. In 1609, she founded an
academy in the Castle taking in 25 noble girls at a time after promising their families she would
properly finish the girls education. Little did the parents know their daughters would meet the same
fate as the peasant girls.
The ease with which she could now obtain her victims caused Erzebet to act recklessly. Victims
were tortured for weeks, even months, before they were murdered. They endured such tortures

Summary Of The Autumn By John Keats
Imagery brings poetry to life through the senses. It allows one to experience imagination through
the differing senses; it indirectly enables one to conceive the mental picture and senses through this
element. Imagery is a figurative language that is for the use of visual symbolism. The author
utilizes vivid and descriptive text to imply a deeper meaning to the story being read. In John Keats
poem, The Autumn, readers visualize the fall season through sensuous imagery to fulfill the purpose
of an illustration of autumn.
The senses of sight, known as visual imagery, is frequently illustrated in this poem. The first line
of the poem states, Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, close bosom friend of the maturing
sun; (Keats 771). The first line is filled with alliteration mists, mellow, and maturing. It also
describes how the fall consists of foggy air, and it expresses how the sun is fully developed and
is beginning to diminish its brightness. During the fall, the sun is not compelled to shine as bright
as it does in the summer or spring. The weather is cooler with cloudy skies, along with the leaves
changing from bright green to warm colors. The leaves are falling from the trees with the help of
the chill breeze. From the trees, grow tasteful fruits and eye catching blossoms which assists the fall
in letting one see the beautiful, graphic creation this season truly is. In essence, this poem allows
one to experience taste or the gustatory imagery of fruit.
This piece of literary work notifies readers the taste of fruit during this season in several lines. In
the first stanza, Keats details the trees and fruits of autumn through the line, To bend with apples
the mossed cottage trees, and fill all fruit with ripeness to the core; (771). The succulent taste of
fruit is being represented and one is able to imagine and relish the taste of a ripe fruit down to its
core. During this time, the fruit is growing maturely for one to harvest and to enjoy throughout this
season and others to come. This line furthermore ties back with visual imagery by expressing the
stage the trees are in. It declares how they are filled with thick, green moss on its trunks with apples
hanging from their branches. Even from

Television Programs Can Support And Facilitate Language...
For many years, parents have relied on using educational programs to teach and engage their
children with new concepts and materials. Conversely, many children have also used television as
an opportunity for learning and language development. For example, the rise of television programs
like Elmo Street and Teletubbies demonstrates this upward trend of substituting media sources for
teaching and learning. However, despite the increasing support from parents toward television
programs, many researchers have mixed reviews on putting our children into viewing long hours
of what they considered unnecessary learning. Thus in what follows of this paper, I will focus on
explaining how television programs can support and facilitate language development. Moreover, I
will also discuss the mixed literacy support for using television as a learning tool and finally, I will
conduct a study that measures, specifically, the relationship between watching educational TV and
learning novel words. Hopefully, with these measures, I will be able to find supporting evidence
that proves educational TV can be a good predictor for word learning.
Through the years, one continuous point of debate has been whether educational TV can facilitate
and improve word learning in children. Many studies on this debate have found distinct and mixed
research outcomes. For example, one study has been Mabel s Rice Word from Sesame Street, in
which he found mixed supporting evidence that television programs can

Junot Diaz s The Money
Junot Diaz is a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is very widely known for
this writing and his background story. In Junot Diaz s story, The Money: Starting Out, he shares a
story from his childhood. The story is about when Diaz and his family had just recently moved to
New Jersey from Santo Domingo and they felt as if they were targeted. The neighborhood that
they were living in was not the top of the line, lots of robberies were taking place. The Diazs
themselves are a victim of robbery, but in the end, everything turns out to be good. Throughout
Diaz s story the reader can better understand and sympathize with this familybecause of the many
uses of pathos and ethosin the passage.

Diaz informed us by providing some background of this childhood. He also explains to us that
robbery happens all the time, In our neighborhood, cars and apartments were always getting
jacked, and the kid stupid enough to leave a bike unattended for more than a tenth of a second was
the kid who was never going to see that bike again (Diaz 385). Thankfully many families do not
have to think about their personal items being stolen, but that does not mean that other families are
always completely safe.
It seemed as if the Diaz s were never safe. The stories focus is about a time that one of his best
friends stole his money, even though he thought he never would. His friend knew how bad his
family was struggling and he still stole from him. In the end Diaz regained his money and
belongings, but this just showed how much of a real friend he was. This family was already
struggling and now they are hit with a burden of theft. This just goes to show that anything can
happen, but the outcome depends on how people handle it.
The purpose of this story is to show that your childhood does not define your whole life. Diaz
obviously had a rough childhood at times. Especially moving into the United States from the
Dominican. His family did not have many funds, to give him all the things he needed. This did not
stop him from succeeding on his own though. Diaz went on to graduate high school, something that

Differences Between The Disney Movie Hercules And The...
Michael Spera October 1, 2014 Christopher Parker GNHU 285 The average viewer might not
notice but there are a lot of differences between the Disney movie Hercules and the actual Greek
myth. The reason being that Disney was targeting a younger audience with their movie and did
not want to obviously put in some of the more graphic content of the actual myth. Some of the
main differences are that in the Greek myth Hercules has a very short temper and usually has
anger issues. These anger issues often get people accidentally killed. In the Disney movie he is
shown to be very nice and calm, this is done because they want him to seem more endearing and
what parent would want their kid to look up to and angry ill tempered man. The movie portrays
him to be unconfident and very shy, this is only done to make him more relatable to the audience.

The Colorado Rockies are in the midst of a breakout season, as their young talent begins to

doesn t seem like the front office is satisfied with their roster. As the trade deadline approaches, the

According to Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com, Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez is drawing
interest from the Rockies, as the team prepares to make a run at the postseason. It doesn t seem

At the moment, the Rockies roster is loaded with different corner outfield options, who fail to

yet. He s been great since debuting this season, but it s tough to depend on someone without a track

Throughout the past couple weeks, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks have
also been linked to Martinez. Morosi notes, that Martinez could be a valuable option in the NL
West, due to the high number of left handed starters in the division. These three teams won t be the
only suitors for his services though, as the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals have both
shown consistent interest.
If the Rockies choose to deal for Martinez, their ceiling will change quite a bit. It will still be
tough to see them making any noise in the playoffs, but anything can happen in October. The front
office has to be realistic about a potential deal with the Tigers, because there will be other

The Importance Of Communication In The Basque Culture
The Basque community as a whole are a very close, tight knit family regardless if it means they
are related by blood or not. The Roman Catholic religion populates for about 94% of the Basque
country. Aside from religion, activities outside the home such as sporting events and traditional
festivities throughout the year are ways they define their culture. It is important for them to keep
these going from generation to generation. Every culture has the same framework model, but
with differences depending on location geographically. This paper explores the Basque culture
and how their beliefs and values on children and family affect the way they live. As mentioned in
Galanti s text there are four C s of culture. Each much be communicated properly to the patient in

Modern English Language
There are 6,909 languages spoken in the world today (Anderson). As of 2009, roughly 328 million
people speak English as their first language, coming in third to Chinese and Spanish (Languages of
the World). This essay will describe the geographies, politics, and arts that contributed to the
evolution of the present English language, as well as the different pronunciations, dialects, and
varieties that have risen up throughout the world. Several countries and civilizations influenced the
English language. In the nineteenth century thirty million people immigrated to the United States
of America (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). These included Italians, Austro
Hungarians, Russians, Germans, Norwegians, Swedes, and more. Many times these immigrants
would form their own communities in which they would have a distinctive English with a strong ...

time, the British Empire spanned nearly twenty five percent of Earth, including Canada, South
Africa, India, Australia, and several other countries. Once colonized, the natives were taught the
English language and contributed some of their own words as well (History: Late Modern English

produced. Examples of the New Englishes were Australian English, South African English,

Throughout both poems, the two women are constantly referred to as pure, innocent, generally

O weary lady, Geraldine,/I pray you, drink this cordial wine!/It is a wine of virtuous powers

perhaps hoping that she can use the alcohol to manipulate her guest? Then, Christabel undresses,

Personal versus Public Poetry
Personal vs. Public Poets write poetry to express their inner thoughts and views. In Seamus Heaney
s poem From the Frontier of Writing, Heaney describes how the publics react to his poetry. Heaney
does this by portraying the process of going through a military transport. Heaney shows a conflict
between his inner thoughts and the public s reactions to them. This creates tension between the
personal and the public. Throughout this poem, Heaney portrays the process of going through a
military transport.
He makes the reader feel as if they are the ones going through the process by his use of you, your,
and you re throughout the poem. Heaney tries to use this poem to show the reader his feeling
towards the media and critic of his poetry. Heaney uses images of hostility by the soldiers in
stanzas 1 6 to express how he feels when someone criticizes or reads his poem. Heaney faces
readers and critics inspecting his poetry such as, troops inspect [the car s] make and number
(Heaney, line 2 3). Heaney feels as if the critiques are marksmen, training down out of the sun
upon [him] like a hawk, (Heaney, lines17 18). Heaney fears of judgment as the critiques, eyeing

Thin Client Computer Lab Project
Introduction Computers are an integral part of 21st century life, and as such technology education
is recognized as part of the Illinois Learning Standards (ISBE, 2008). A computer lab is an efficient
way to deliver access to computers and the Internet to students. Traditional labs, like the one at
Dvorak Technology Academy, are populated with complete, standalone computer systems. In
network terms these are fat clients , because each workstation is a complete system, with its own
memory and disk space and performing most if not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A thin client lab will allow Dvorak to extend its financial resources by saving on new computer
resources and extending the life of existing assets. In addition, computer lab fat clients require
substantial maintenance to keep the systems in working order. While CPS s computer support
systems help with this task through programs like Deep Freeze, routine hardware maintenance
as well as software installs and updates not covered by CPS can be a significant drain on
technology coordinator resources. A thin client architecture can reduce the workload of the
technology coordinators by centralizing management and reducing the kinds of workstation
maintenance that needs to be done. Finally, thin client networks are very scaleable. If, in the
future, web based applications or productivity applications require more processing power than
is currently available in the lab, additional servers can be added to the system to handle the
added load instead of upgrading all of the workstations. As classroom desktop computers are
upgraded, the older classroom machines can be used as additional workstations in the lab, or
replace failing lab systems, or deployed in a new lab.
Project description The Thin Client Computer Lab Project creates a computer laboratory built

My Speech
Before I began my speech I was very thrilled, excited, and motivated. I expressed a large desire to
go first since there was no formal order of speakers. Minutes before class started, rehearsed my
speech a few times to ensure that I have my content sharp and that I am following the outline to
my best ability. Afterwards, it was only minutes before Dr. Lora said It is 8 on my watch, so let us
get started. Right then and there, I got up and approached the stage with confidence. Another
important factor that made me feel prepared was not only the rehearsing but it was the content. I
know my friend Adam Arata very well, so it was easy to talk highly about him. So, overall the
most important thing that made me feel well prepared to go first was the content and the practice.
During the speech: As I indicated earlier, I was confident before my speech and that was no
different for the way I felt during my speech. This speech was a little odd for me despite the
content. I didn t have any notecards so if there was a time when I would forget a word or a line, I
would have to make it up on the spot which I did several times. Furthermore, despite the number
of times I have presented, I was a little nervous this time when I was speaking. This was evident by
the delivery of my speech. I spoke clearly but there would be times when it didn t flow. However,
for the most part, I felt a great level of comfort. I began to look at people I feel extremely
comfortable with when speaking, which

Brick Lane Thesis Essay
Female empowerment is what a patriarchal tries its best to dissolve, In the novel Brick Lane the
protagonist Nanzeen is part of the extensive amount of women who face this adversity but her
journey overcoming this is what makes this novel. There are many factors that give this
empowerment but the outstanding ones are , the romantic relationship with Karim , Hasina letters
and her friendship with Razia.
At the age of 18 Nanzeen is shortly informed about a marriage her father has arranged to man
named Chanu who is twice her age, this is something she does not want but doesn t protests it
because up to that point in her life there was little to no example of women she was surrounded

If you could only see the beauty that can come from ashes
Butterfly Circus is a 20 minute dramatic short film which is a testament to the power of hope
and faith in oneself. It is a wonderful reflection of the themes of good and evil, man vs. man, man
vs. himself and hope conquers all. It can be viewed as a religious film but need not be. If you
believe in yourself, you will be saved.

Rather than raise the issue of racism the film makers have chosen to use Will as a symbol of
those who may not fit in those who do not feel they have a purpose in life. Racism is a non issue

Topic
The topic of those marginalized can be discussed within the context of current society. Will
believes he is the man even God has turned his back on in his physical limitations. While touring
with the Butterfly Circus Will realizes he can overcome his physical disabilities and swim it is
through this baptism by water, the very act of swimming, he is reborn and realizes his potential.
The caterpillar becomes a butterfly.
Cultural
The culture of American society during the Great Depression can be examined. The
hopelessness and loss of innocence is an excellent teaching opportunity to discuss what exactly
defines a person. How would the students handle the loss of their money, jobs and their homes?
The culture of those marginalized and important societal norms within the can also be examined.
Are disabled people more respected in certain societies? Does Will consider himself disabled by
the end of the film? The culture of the group vs the individual, man vs. society as larger issues
can also be developed as topics along with the theme of hope and rebirth . Do most teenagers feels
there is hope in the world?

Environmental Sanctions And Safety Standards
Introduction
Coal is king. The coal industry controls the economy of states, and states rely on it for electricity.
However, many families involved in the industry of coal are experiencing profound economic
difficulty. This must be resolved to improve the economic disparity in West Virginia, a state known
for a large coal mining industry. Many mining families experience this economic difficulty,
particularly due to health risks and job situations.
Much research has been done into the effects of a large coal industry. In just the past twenty years,
air pollution from coal plants have shortened the lives of more than half a million Americans. (Jeff
Goodell, 2006). Mining kills; and it even affects those uninvolved in the production of it. There are
a vast amount of environmental sanctions and safety standards in mines. These are laws and
regulations meant to protect the population, yet most do not follow them correctly. Companies
must pay for all of this, however paying for regulations cuts into profit margins. These companies
manage to still make profit by shutting down deficit mines, but mainly make up costs by laying off
employees. This process results in a never ending cycle of downtrodden individuals trying to make
ends meet. Mining is a neutral party, it has negatives and positives, both of which impact the
Appalachia community significantly.
Mining has a vast assortment of negatives that are constantly being discussed. Mining can damage

Step 1. a): Visual Media History
Step 1. b): Censorship in the 20th century British film
Description: Following the first public appearance of film in 1896 in London, England there were
numerous issues that arose; public safety and the content within films came to the forefront of
public concern. This led to local authorities such as The London City Council (LCC) possessing the
authority to decide all regulations and rules of film. This was the first form of censorship as we see
these local officials being able to ban films and later on decide what was morally acceptable within
film. In November 1912 the formation of the British Board of Film Censors ... Show more content

the scenes at the BBFC. (pp. 1 15). London, England: Palgrave Macmillan.
Step b: The annotation including word count:
Brown, the author of this specific chapter does an in depth coverage of the historical origins of the
British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). This chapter mainly dealt with the numerous conflicts
that the BBFC encountered during the silent era. The board was constantly challenged by groups
such as the London City Council (LCC) because of their firm belief that censorship should be
within their hands. Despite this the BBFC gained more legitimacy and control by 1924 following
the necessary interventions from the Home Office of England. Despite this Brown argues that the
councils continued to initiate disputes and in reality the BBFC faced even more issues surrounding
morality. Even though this book s central topic is the BBFC, it includes a substantial amount of
coverage on the presence of local authorities. The examples of each conflict between both groups
supports my thesis since it illustrates how key the role, local authorities play. Brown stresses the
importance of the conflicts that shaped the BBFC and how the board s battle for acceptance was
underpinned by the moral concerns of local authorities.

The Spanish Dream Of Christopher Columbus And The American...
Thesis The initial Spanish settlers were both successful and not successful as well in achieving
their American Dream in due to the fact that they had the missions and their control over California
as well as lost all of their hold on California and the missions because of the Mexicans that rebelled
against the Spanish Crown.12
Origins
The Spanish were a group of people from the great country of Spain in Europe. The rulers at the
time, Ferdinand the Second of Aragon and Isabella of Castille was able to finance one man. The
man was the legendary explorer of the seas, Christopher Columbus.3 He was the one who started
the Spanish interest of the Americas. He showed the Crown what the Americas have.
Christopher Columbus was the one to land in the Americas first for the Spanish Empire, but not the
first Spaniard to land and set up Spain s grip on the Northern Americas, especially in California.
That belonged to Hernan CortГ©s. CortГ©s s voyage was first funded by a third party, Diego
VelГЎzquez. The voyage before the its original sail out date was canceled by Diego VelГЎzquez
and CortГ©s s voyage was lost. CortГ©s got word of this and sailed out the night before the
original sail date before anything could happen to it and him in 1519.45 He wanted his chance to
explore the world and to look for the legendary Strait of AniГЎn. The Strait of AniГЎn was this
pathway from the Americas to the Far East in Asia that no explorer has found.6 CortГ©s landed in
the middle of the Americas and found out about the Aztec Empire that was ruled by Montezuma
after he set up a fishing village called Pontonchan. CortГ©s first went to TenochitlГЎn, the City of
Dreams , and was shocked to see the advancement that the Aztecs had.78 He also found out about
what the Aztecs do in their free time. The Aztecs were violent to their neighbors, they were
cannibals, and the Aztecs performed human sacrifices.9 This was a good motive for CortГ©s to
conquer the Aztec empire. CortГ©s wanted to push more North as well, but could not get far.
CortГ©s got up to Baja California in the 1530 s. Another explorer, after CortГ©s, went to push
into Alta California. He was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo pushed up a good
distance into Alta California

17. Philadelphia 76ers USA TODAY Sports The Philadelphia 76ers just completed their second

of many NBA fans, this simply means that everything is going to plan in the city of brotherly
love. General manager Sam Hinkie, is sticking to his rebuilding plan of asset collecting, and it is
bound to pay off for Philly at some point. The question is; how long will it take for the 76ers to

Embiid. Embiid is one of the rare players that has the distinct possibility of being out of the
league or a top 10 player in the NBA five years from now. After missing his entire rookie season
with a foot injury, Embiid will be forced to miss another season after aggravating his foot. It

The My Virtual Child program allows the user to become a parent and make various decisions
revolving around their virtual child. A lot of people may have used this opportunity to try and
show what a caring and wonderful parent they can be, however, I did not choose this route.
Throughout my daughter s life, I made it my goal to stunt or inhibit her developmental growth in
any way that I could. I believed it was just as challenging, and took just as much knowledge of the
subject to be the worst parent as it was to be the best parent.
1.Daenerys showed excellent physical promise from the day she was born. She was walking by 9

her will, which would diminish her exploration intuitions. I began to potty train her at 18
months, and would scold her whenever she soiled her diapers. From her earliest 9 month report,
Daenerys was advanced in her gross and fine motor skills. Up until Kindergarten, these reports
were consistent, so at age 6, I decided to enroll her in a physical activity. Trying to thwart her
athletic ability, I signed her up for dance and gymnastics, the least athletic option in my opinion.

During the 1970s and 1980s criminal street gangs were one of the most serious criminal offenses

only weakness would probably be that it was not published recently, but it is still a useful source of

Many argue that this astonishing achievement is due to Hong Kong s laissez faire approach to

The Mood Of Sonnet IV Of 100 Love Sonnets By Pablo Neruda
In sonnet IV of 100 Love Sonnets, Pablo Neruda describes a charming memory of him and his
lover as they carelessly wonder through a picturesque and serene landscape. Throughout the
poem, Neruda uses lifelike imagery as well as ambiguous oxymorons to create an idyllic and
dreamy mood. The author exemplifies this in lines 1 2 when he writes, You will remember that
leaping stream where sweet aromas rose and trembled . In this example, Neruda s use of
personification of the stream and aromas enhances the imagery so that the reader can obtain a
more detailed image of the scene. This enforces the idea that the mood is idyllic and dreamy
because leaping streams and sweet aromas are usually phrases that connote a calm and homey
feeling or mood.

College Athletes Should be Paid Essay
College sports are big business. For many universities, the athletic program serves as a cash
generating machine. Exploited athletes generate millions of dollars for the NCAA and their
schools, and never see a dime. In terms of profit, if all ties with the university were eliminated, an
athletic program acting as its own separate entity could compete with some fortune 500
companies. So, why do the vital pieces of the machine, the players, fail to receive any
compensation for their performance? The answer lies in the money hungry NCAA and their
practice of hoarding all the revenue. College athletes should receive payment for their play to make

Opponents against paying student athletes say that they should not be paid because through
scholarships, they re already being paid. Yes, a scholarship is a form of payment. A scholarship
is nice, but it is not enough. A scholarship will not pay the bills. Moreover, unlike ordinary
students without athletics, student athletes must also many times care for families and spouses.
Actually, approximately 24% of student athletes are married, and of that 24%, about 62% have
children. Of the students without their own spouses or children, many must care for parents
and siblings. It wouldn t hurt universities to give back a little. The average Division One School
profits $6 million per year on basketball and football alone. Consider that, some universities such
as the university of Florida or University of Michigan profit more than $10 million per year on
their respective athletic programs. At least three college football teams; Michigan, Florida, and
Notre Dame, are each worth more than the NFL s Detroit Lions. Today, networks and cable
channels pay hundreds of millions of dollars for the right to televise college football games.
NCAA basketball, which has its wildly popular March Madness, is currently in the middle of a

The Three Major Types Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction
There are three major types of weapons of mass destruction and those are nuclear weapons,
biological warfare agents, and chemical warfare agents. These weapons share their potential for
large scale destruction and the indiscriminate nature of their effects, notably against civilians.
WMD s challenges our peace and security here in the United States. There is a strategy for dealing
with weapons of mass destructions, and it is the three pillars, which are counter proliferation,
nonproliferation, and WMD consequence management. The United States has tried to stop other
countries; however, it has gotten to a point that if the United States is attacked with nuclear
weapons, then the U.S. will use WMD as a response to the attack. When it comes to weapons of
mass destruction in the possession of hostile countries and even terrorists, it is one of the greatest
security challenges facing the United States. The first strategy to combat WMD is counter
proliferation to combat WMD use, counter proliferations are fully integrated into the basic
doctrines, in trainings, and even equipping of all forces, since it is important for the U.S military
and appropriate agencies to be prepared to deter and defend against any possible WMD event.
With strengthened nonproliferation to combat WMD proliferation, in order to prevent states from
acquiring WMD and missiles, we must enhance diplomacy, arms control, multilateral agreements,
threat reduction assistance, and export controls. That is to slow and make it more costly to
access sensitive technologies, materials, and expertise. In addition, the laws and treaties that are
consistently violated by Iran for years, are the treaty of the non profeliration of nuclear weapons,
because they developed a nuclear program that is without the consent of the IAEA. They also has
held into chemical agents and acculturated their chemical stockpile. In the other hand, North
Korea has yet to give up its nuclear weapons, and North Korea has violated the obligations to the
IAEA, by actively developing nuclear weapons. North Korea is likely exchanging nuclear
expertise to Iran, Libya, and Pakistan. It has also sold missiles to Iran. they even have tested their
first nuclear weapon. As we can

Carnival And Calypso Dance
The West Indian Dance of Calypso has a long history. Where its origins trace back to Africa it s
become popularized in Trinidadian culture and becomes the most popular around the holiday time
of Christmas. Since Calypso and Carnival have such strong connections there is some background
information that you definitely need to know. Carnival and Calypso are part of the colonial and
post colonial history of Caribbeanislands such as Trinidadand Antigua. As early as the 18th century,
Africans, who were at the time slaves living in Antigua, celebrated Carnival. They had used these
dances as a form of communication between each other, often times this was used to mock the
slave masters without them knowing. During this time in the 18th century the French planters used
carnival times to celebrate the period as a pre Lenten celebration, which was basically a
preparation period for the coming of lent . (Hughes)
All through these carnivals involved street procession costumes, music, dancing, and feasting. The
culture continued even after the British changed the French as colonial rulers. all through colonial
instances, slaves held separate celebrations. Their Carnival practices included stick fighting,
dancing, drumming, making a song and the staging of quick plays. role playing turned into an
integral a part of Carnival and remains the case these days. Ex slaves masqueraded as White slave

One glance at my bathroom clock tells me exactly what I already guessed that I m late. I sigh
and steal another look in the mirror. My makeup is flawless it is something I pride myself on but
my hair falls in my face, refusing to be tamed. Accepting this fate, I dash into my bedroom. I comb
through my closet looking for the perfect dress; I had one in mind but can t seem to find it. After
five minutes of fruitless searching, I let out a groan of frustration and turn around to see it laid out
nicely on my bed. Of course. I slip it on quickly, but can t get the zippermore than half way up my
back. I know it s not that he dress is too small I simply can t reach. At this point, I m nearly ready

As I do last minute checks, I dictate a sorry I m late text to my date. I watch it try to slowly send
through the awful reception of my building as I lock my door and make my way across the hall.
I give up on it actually reaching my date after a few painful minutes and slip my phone into my
clutch. Then, I knock on the door across the hall. It s only after a few moments do I remember that
the darling old woman moved out a month ago, and a new tenant just moved it. Crap, I think. As if
tonight hadn t already spelt disaster.
***
A knock on my door brings me back to reality. I set my book down and stand up to answer it.
However, an absentminded glance at my watch makes me panic. I was supposed to be
downtown ten minutes ago, and I still have to deal with whoever knocked before I can leave. On
my way to the door, I grab my favorite pair of shoes. I only have one on when I open it, and what
I see almost makes me drop the other one. A gorgeous young woman stands outside my apartment,
dressed stylishly in a red, black, and silver cocktail dress, a leather jacket, and stunning accessories.
I stare at her for a second too long before asking her how I may help her. I m sorry, but I have a
rather awkward request. I nod at her to continue, thinking that I d do just about anything this
woman asked me to. I live across the hall, and all my roommates are gone tonight. I

Causes And Symptoms Of Tay-Sachs Disease
Tay Sachs disease is a disorder in the central nervous system. It is a disorder that most commonly
affects infants. It is a disease that is most commonly always fatal. Tay Sachs can also occur in
teens and adults, causing less not fatal symptoms, although this occurs rarely. This disease is
caused because you are missing an enzyme in the body named Hexosaminidase. Without this
enzyme a fatty element called Ganglioside builds up on lysosomes which then this overcrowds the

children begins in the fetus during the pregnancy. A baby with the disease appears normal until six

Change Management And The Recent Cultural Change Of Aetna
Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are
the ones we ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. Barack Obama. Although change
can be an overwhelming challenge for business leaders; change is essential for any organization
that desires to maintain the competitive advantage in the marketplace. Often the need for change is
caused by a shift in the market, advancements in technology or a change in the skills of the
organization s workforce. How an organization manages change can make the difference between
its failure and success. People are resistant to change, therefore it is up to managementto ensure that

(Aguirre Alpern, 2014).
Currently there is no one correct way in which to implement change; however, there is a list of 10
guiding principles that can assist managers in transforming their organizations.
Address the culture. An organizations culture is a mix of shared values, standards, and beliefs that
are framed by the founders of the business. Rather than attempting to change this culture, managers
must look for elements of the culture that align to the change, bring them to the foreground, and
attract the attention of the employees who will be affecting the change.
Begin at the top. Effective change management activity starts with the top level managers who
agree that change is needed and that are fully supported by the head of the organization. Senior
level managers must act as one cohesive and committed team, employees will follow their example.
Involve everyone. Change occurs remarkably easier when all levels of employees are included
early on in the change process. Employees who are responsible for actually doing the work are the
ones in the best position to identify areas where potential pitfalls exists, are in contact with the
customers and will know how they may respond to the change, and have the power to make or
break the change activity.
Make a rational case for change. People respond more to a call to action that engages their
emotions as well as their minds, making them feel as though they are a part of something

The Italian Born Community in Australia
The Italian born community is the largest overseas born community in Australia. The majority of
Italians came in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. World War II Italy was in a political and economic mess
which motivated many people to come to Australia. This mass exodus from Italy was accelerated
by a bi lateral agreement between Australia and Italy, which allowed Italians to apply for assisted
passage. The majority of Italians migrants to Australia have come from five major regions:
Calabria, Puglia, Campania, Veneto, and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Today, the Italian community live
together in specific areas. This provides the atmosphere of community closeness and support which
is very important to them. The loss of community supporting structure in Italy was gradually
replaced by the development of similar supports in Australia. Today, over 120 Italian associations,
organizations and clubs exist. They range from welfare organizations and religious associations to
recreational, sporting and regional clubs. For many Australian Italians these organizations are
meeting places where they can speak their own language/dialect and maintain their cultural identity.
The nature of Italian migration to Australia has meant that over 40 percent of the community are
now over 65 years at the 2001 Census. A large percentage of older Italians do not speak English
well and as such community efforts in the recent past have focused on meeting the needs of the

writing skills and has largely impacted America today in many ways. The way in which he
presented his style within his writings is unique and remarkable, and the reason why he is widely

helped shape American character through his manipulation of the English language. Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow was born on February 27, 1807 in Portland, Maineto Stephen Longfellow
and Zilpah Wadsworth (Gartner). Longfellow was born into a wealthy family of lawyers and was

One of Longfellow s famous poems, A Psalm of Life, includes many distinctive literary devices
that he consistently used throughout his works. One device, rhythm, is Longfellow s signature
throughout all of these poems. In A Psalm of Life, the rhyme scheme is presented as a simple
ABAB. This can be seen in phrases such as, Tell me not in mournful numbers...for the soul is dead
that slumbers. ( A Psalm of Life ). Rhyming is a prominent literary device throughout his poems as
he did write lyric poems which focused on emotions and had songlike qualities.
The legacy and influence of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was not short lived. In fact, many
English teachers teach on his poetry today because they believe it is easier to understand, and more
effective at preparing students for understanding complex poetry. Longfellow is also known for the
various catchphrases we use today, such as, footprints on the sands of time

Life Coaching Process Analysis
The goal setting phase of a Life Coaching session is crucial as it determines how one acquires the
change and sought out success from the coach. After establishing that change is necessary and
doable, the next step is the formation of a realistic plan with attainable goals. Author Gary R.
Collins (2009) delineates, Attainable goals are specific rather than vague. They persist longer if
there can be consistent and accurate feedback on one s progress (p. 63). The Life Coach ascertains
from the client problem areas, challenges, and obstacles that the client and Life Coach perceive and
cognize as hindrances to augmentation and rectification. Moreover, one incorporation to the course
of action to consider in the goalsettings is baby steps .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, encouraging and explaining to the client that change comes in increments and is
a tedious process full of rewards and benefits, but be kind to oneself if there are setbacks.
Reviewing and determining the triggers and circumstances surrounding the setbacks are
opportunities to further the achievement. Obstacles depend on the individual and their goals,
three possible barriers are fear, negative mindset and impatience. To overcome the hindrance of
fear and negative mindset the same principle applies. Collins (2009) asserts, Pray read
Philippians 4:6 7, talk openly to a friend, challenge defeating self talk, build a positive attitude,
take small steps and notice what happens, and stop imaging the worst case possibilities (p. 226).
Moreover, with impatience Collins suggest, demonstrate patience and show small evidences of
progress (p. 227). The Life Coach recognizes there is a war that exist in everyone s mind at some
point in life. However, God is in victorious battle and calms any storm and defeated the enemy on
our behalf, the Life Coach knows this is a fixed fight. As a Christian Coach, we are to explain that
we are all victorious in Christ and encourage our clients, brothers and sisters, not to give into a
habit, defeat, and negative thinking. Furthermore, they are more than conquerors. The fight of
victory and faith is not easily resolved, but through prayer and life changes the walk gets easier with

Ed Sullivan s Influence On Popular Culture
Mom, let s watch the Ed Sullivan show. This was one of the most common sayings on the night of

chosen as the host of the variety show Toast of the Town. Which largely influenced popular culture
and the entire music industry through its telecasts of Elvis Presley and the Beatles, and by having all

When Ed Sullivan was selected as the host of the Toast of the town, the struggle and problems to
get the show rolling were many. In many American families, the Ed Sullivan show was
something that was an institution and was regularly watched every Sunday night. The reason
why it was such a celebrated part of all American families was because even with awkward
gestures Ed Sullivan still managed to bring an extraordinary variety of the best entertainment to
American families. The show had its first telecast in the summer of 1948, and was produced
with a limited budget of only $1375. The show was one of many quite similar to it that had very
short television lives, and so people were skeptical and didn t expect it to last long at all, but
they went for it anyway with only $375 set aside for talent and the two young stars of the show
being Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. In the beginning of the show, its performers and range of
entertainment was limited, but over the years its scope widened to new forms and variety of
entertainment as the name officially changed to the Ed Sullivan show. Some of the new telecasts
and segments came from foreign countries such as Japan, the Soviet Union, Italy, France, England,
Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Mexico, Israel, Cuba, and Hong Kong. Some of the shows were
extraordinary in themselves, such as the 90 minute tribute to Irving Berlin, which ended in true
Sullivan fashion with a huge American flag in fireworks and the entire cast singing God Bless

The Security and Exchange Commission is the organization who monitors fraudulent transactions
and insider trading. Some experts in ethical behavior consider inside trading the most dramatic form
of utilitarian ethics.
Martha s Ethical Behavior
Since 2002 Martha Stewart was investigated by the SEC and the FBI for Inside Trading but it is
interesting that she wasn t found guilty or accused on any of those charges; she was charge for
conspiracy, obstruction of justice and false statement. It was her un ethical behavior what drove
her into innumerable allegations and public embarrassments. There are at least four issues in this
case where ethics play a very interesting and critical role; Freedom of speech, Conspiracy, Right of
property and Inside trading.
1.Freedom of Speech
When Martha Stewart was accused the first problem presented was the Media and how her case
was going to be handled. Martha s Stewart lawyer Robert Morvillo along with Martha s publicist
and show producers orchestrated a plan to keep Martha s image as clean and honest as possible.
They didn t waste time by using the media, Martha s TV show and Magazine to defend her position
and manipulate the public opinion towards Martha s innocence. It is clear that in court previous
information and announcements of her innocence will create in the future juror s minds the
reasonable doubt needed to find her innocent. The judge immediately imposed a gag order to
control the flow of information and to avoid

  • 2. What Caused The American Civil War Essay The American Civil War was a war fought within the United States of America between the North (Union) and the South (Confederacy) The war was one of the most critical events in American history. It is estimated that 623,000 soldiers died during the Civil War (Garrison) starting from 1861 and ending in 1865. While many still debate the ultimate causes of the Civil War, author James McPherson writes that, The Civil War started because of uncompromising differences between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slaveryin the territories that had not yet become states. This angered the Southerners and threatened their way of life. The election of Abraham Lincoln as the sixteenth president of the united states in November of 1860 set the stage for division, secession, and civil war (Stokesbury 3) the South felt threatened when it came to slavery. There were also economic differences between both regions. The Southern states were agrarian states, which depended on agriculture rather than industrialization. Slavery was essential to the South s agrarian economic system, dedicated to producing raw materials for manufacture by others. (Axelrod 15) After the Cotton Gin was invented, it increased the need for slaves and made cotton the chief crop of the South. The South was able to produce 7/8 of the world s supply of cotton. (Axelrod 15) This made the South s dependence on the plantation system slavery. By then, the North was growing industrially. The north feared that South s slave based economy might affect their economy. The North depended on factories and other industrialized businesses. As for this reason many of new immigrants settled north, while few settled south. This allowed the North to grow industrially, while making the South feel more threatened by them. The Confederacy opposed any kind of industrialization and manufactured as little as possible. Southern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her ancestors had assisted Vlad Dracule during his rise to power; other relatives went on to become cardinals, princes, Prime Ministers, and King of Poland. She was a healthy, energetic child, a quality found to be unique for someone of her social status. She was also vain, often boasting of her fresh complexion that she believed was her best feature. Well educated, Erzebet was able to both read and write in four languages. At the age of 11, she was arranged in marriage to 16 year old Ferencz Nadasdy. As she furiously wiped away the blood, Erzebet noticed the skin looked younger. She was instantly convinced the blood of young girls was the key to eternal beauty. Erzebet s helpers began combing the countryside by the dark of night in search of worthy girls. Once they were brought to the castle, they were stripped naked and hung upside down by chains. Then their throats would be slit, the blood draining into a bath below. Erzebet would then bathe in the fresh warm blood. She followed this routine for 5 years before she decided the results were much less than she desired. Undeterred, Erzebet rationalized that better blood was needed. In 1609, she founded an academy in the Castle taking in 25 noble girls at a time after promising their families she would properly finish the girls education. Little did the parents know their daughters would meet the same fate as the peasant girls. The ease with which she could now obtain her victims caused Erzebet to act recklessly. • 6. Summary Of The Autumn By John Keats Imagery brings poetry to life through the senses. It allows one to experience imagination through the differing senses; it indirectly enables one to conceive the mental picture and senses through this element. Imagery is a figurative language that is for the use of visual symbolism. The author utilizes vivid and descriptive text to imply a deeper meaning to the story being read. In John Keats poem, The Autumn, readers visualize the fall season through sensuous imagery to fulfill the purpose of an illustration of autumn. The senses of sight, known as visual imagery, is frequently illustrated in this poem. The first line of the poem states, Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, close bosom friend of the maturing sun; (Keats 771). The first line is filled with alliteration mists, mellow, and maturing. It also describes how the fall consists of foggy air, and it expresses how the sun is fully developed and is beginning to diminish its brightness. During the fall, the sun is not compelled to shine as bright as it does in the summer or spring. The weather is cooler with cloudy skies, along with the leaves changing from bright green to warm colors. The leaves are falling from the trees with the help of the chill breeze. From the trees, grow tasteful fruits and eye catching blossoms which assists the fall in letting one see the beautiful, graphic creation this season truly is. In essence, this poem allows one to experience taste or the gustatory imagery of fruit. This piece of literary work notifies readers the taste of fruit during this season in several lines. In the first stanza, Keats details the trees and fruits of autumn through the line, To bend with apples the mossed cottage trees, and fill all fruit with ripeness to the core; (771). The succulent taste of fruit is being represented and one is able to imagine and relish the taste of a ripe fruit down to its core. During this time, the fruit is growing maturely for one to harvest and to enjoy throughout this season and others to come. This line furthermore ties back with visual imagery by expressing the stage the trees are in. It declares how they are filled with thick, green moss on its trunks with apples hanging from their branches. Even from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Television Programs Can Support And Facilitate Language... For many years, parents have relied on using educational programs to teach and engage their children with new concepts and materials. Conversely, many children have also used television as an opportunity for learning and language development. For example, the rise of television programs like Elmo Street and Teletubbies demonstrates this upward trend of substituting media sources for teaching and learning. However, despite the increasing support from parents toward television programs, many researchers have mixed reviews on putting our children into viewing long hours of what they considered unnecessary learning. Thus in what follows of this paper, I will focus on explaining how television programs can support and facilitate language development. Moreover, I will also discuss the mixed literacy support for using television as a learning tool and finally, I will conduct a study that measures, specifically, the relationship between watching educational TV and learning novel words. Hopefully, with these measures, I will be able to find supporting evidence that proves educational TV can be a good predictor for word learning. Through the years, one continuous point of debate has been whether educational TV can facilitate and improve word learning in children. Many studies on this debate have found distinct and mixed research outcomes. For example, one study has been Mabel s Rice Word from Sesame Street, in which he found mixed supporting evidence that television programs can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael Spera October 1, 2014 Christopher Parker GNHU 285 The average viewer might not notice but there are a lot of differences between the Disney movie Hercules and the actual Greek myth. The reason being that Disney was targeting a younger audience with their movie and did not want to obviously put in some of the more graphic content of the actual myth. If the Rockies choose to deal for Martinez, their ceiling will change quite a bit. It will still be tough to see them making any noise in the playoffs, but anything can happen in October. Law II: A robot must obey orders given by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. Law III: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws. This is the very essence of I, Robot(2004) by Alex Proyas a world created to co exist with robots. Can a robot turn a canvas into a beautiful masterpiece? (2004). Human have the ability to create, to build things, to bring things to life. But our creativity can be dangerous if we don t use it in a constructive manner. Doctor Lanning built a robot that breaks the thee laws . This society is so easy to believe that there is no possibility of a malfunction or error much less lack in the idea that the humans who created these advancements have the capability to expand beyond their creation. Whether laws are in place or not, humans have the natural ability to produce error. If we create something it too has the ability of error because of the abilities of its creator. This society places an abundance of trust in their robots that they ignore the fact that their development has taken from human jobs, human qualities and abilities to function independently. Likewise, our world today is leading into a far advanced technological state. But our creative minds might not know what we are really getting into and are we prepared if everything goes haywire? In I robot Dr. Lanning created a system called VIKI, Virtual Interactive Kinaesthetic Interface used by USR robotic company. VIKI is a super computer that controls all NS5 robots. As of 2009, roughly 328 million people speak English as their first language, coming in third to Chinese and Spanish (Languages of the World). This essay will describe the geographies, politics, and arts that contributed to the evolution of the present English language, as well as the different pronunciations, dialects, and varieties that have risen up throughout the world. Several countries and civilizations influenced the English language. In the nineteenth century thirty million people immigrated to the United States of America (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). Many times these immigrants would form their own communities in which they would have a distinctive English with a strong ... accent and an idiosyncratic syntax (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). During this time, the British Empire spanned nearly twenty five percent of Earth, including Canada, South Africa, India, Australia, and several other countries. Once colonized, the natives were taught the English language and contributed some of their own words as well (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). Throughout both poems, the two women are constantly referred to as pure, innocent, generally good girls. They are praised by the other characters and by the narrators. What are Christabel s intentions here? Is she simply being friendly, or is she perhaps hoping that she can use the alcohol to manipulate her guest? Then, Christabel undresses, sits down, And on her elbow did recline/To look at the lady Geraldine (Coleridge 8) as she undresses. This interest in watching Geraldine undress seems quite uncharacteristic of Christabel, and in fact, that is when the narrator promptly jumps in to shield Christabel s innocent eyes. In Seamus Heaney s poem From the Frontier of Writing, Heaney describes how the publics react to his poetry. Heaney does this by portraying the process of going through a military transport. Heaney shows a conflict between his inner thoughts and the public s reactions to them. This creates tension between the personal and the public. Throughout this poem, Heaney portrays the process of going through a military transport. He makes the reader feel as if they are the ones going through the process by his use of you, your, and you re throughout the poem. Heaney tries to use this poem to show the reader his feeling towards the media and critic of his poetry. Heaney uses images of hostility by the soldiers in stanzas 1 6 to express how he feels when someone criticizes or reads his poem. Heaney faces readers and critics inspecting his poetry such as, troops inspect [the car s] make and number (Heaney, line 2 3). Heaney feels as if the critiques are marksmen, training down out of the sun upon [him] like a hawk, (Heaney, lines17 18). Heaney fears of judgment as the critiques, eyeing with intent, inspect his poem (Heaney, line 5). In the last two stanzas, there is a shift in tone as Heaney feels that the critics and readers are gone. Suddenly, Heaney feels, arraigned yet freed, as he finally passes through the soldiers or critics (Heaney, line 19). This shows the relief he feels when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A thin client architecture can reduce the workload of the technology coordinators by centralizing management and reducing the kinds of workstation maintenance that needs to be done. Finally, thin client networks are very scaleable. Minutes before class started, rehearsed my speech a few times to ensure that I have my content sharp and that I am following the outline to my best ability. Afterwards, it was only minutes before Dr. Lora said It is 8 on my watch, so let us get started. Right then and there, I got up and approached the stage with confidence. Another important factor that made me feel prepared was not only the rehearsing but it was the content. I know my friend Adam Arata very well, so it was easy to talk highly about him. So, overall the most important thing that made me feel well prepared to go first was the content and the practice. However, many families involved in the industry of coal are experiencing profound economic difficulty. This must be resolved to improve the economic disparity in West Virginia, a state known for a large coal mining industry. Many mining families experience this economic difficulty, particularly due to health risks and job situations. Much research has been done into the effects of a large coal industry. In just the past twenty years, air pollution from coal plants have shortened the lives of more than half a million Americans. (Jeff Goodell, 2006). Mining kills; and it even affects those uninvolved in the production of it. There are a vast amount of environmental sanctions and safety standards in mines. These are laws and regulations meant to protect the population, yet most do not follow them correctly. Companies must pay for all of this, however paying for regulations cuts into profit margins. These companies manage to still make profit by shutting down deficit mines, but mainly make up costs by laying off employees. This process results in a never ending cycle of downtrodden individuals trying to make ends meet. This led to local authorities such as The London City Council (LCC) possessing the authority to decide all regulations and rules of film. This chapter mainly dealt with the numerous conflicts that the BBFC encountered during the silent era. The board was constantly challenged by groups such as the London City Council (LCC) because of their firm belief that censorship should be within their hands. Despite this the BBFC gained more legitimacy and control by 1924 following the necessary interventions from the Home Office of England. Despite this Brown argues that the councils continued to initiate disputes and in reality the BBFC faced even more issues surrounding morality. Even though this book s central topic is the BBFC, it includes a substantial amount of coverage on the presence of local authorities. The examples of each conflict between both groups supports my thesis since it illustrates how key the role, local authorities play. Brown stresses the importance of the conflicts that shaped the BBFC and how the board s battle for acceptance was underpinned by the moral concerns of local authorities. ... The Strait of AniГЎn was this pathway from the Americas to the Far East in Asia that no explorer has found.6 CortГ©s landed in the middle of the Americas and found out about the Aztec Empire that was ruled by Montezuma after he set up a fishing village called Pontonchan. The Aztecs were violent to their neighbors, they were cannibals, and the Aztecs performed human sacrifices.9 This was a good motive for CortГ©s to conquer the Aztec empire. CortГ©s wanted to push more North as well, but could not get far. CortГ©s got up to Baja California in the 1530 s. Another explorer, after CortГ©s, went to push into Alta California. The Mood Of Sonnet IV Of 100 Love Sonnets By Pablo Neruda In sonnet IV of 100 Love Sonnets, Pablo Neruda describes a charming memory of him and his lover as they carelessly wonder through a picturesque and serene landscape. Throughout the poem, Neruda uses lifelike imagery as well as ambiguous oxymorons to create an idyllic and dreamy mood. The author exemplifies this in lines 1 2 when he writes, You will remember that leaping stream where sweet aromas rose and trembled . In this example, Neruda s use of personification of the stream and aromas enhances the imagery so that the reader can obtain a more detailed image of the scene. This enforces the idea that the mood is idyllic and dreamy because leaping streams and sweet aromas are usually phrases that connote a calm and homey feeling or mood. ... Exploited athletes generate millions of dollars for the NCAA and their schools, and never see a dime. In terms of profit, if all ties with the university were eliminated, an athletic program acting as its own separate entity could compete with some fortune 500 companies. So, why do the vital pieces of the machine, the players, fail to receive any compensation for their performance? The answer lies in the money hungry NCAA and their practice of hoarding all the revenue. Moreover, unlike ordinary students without athletics, student athletes must also many times care for families and spouses. Actually, approximately 24% of student athletes are married, and of that 24%, about 62% have children. Of the students without their own spouses or children, many must care for parents and siblings. It wouldn t hurt universities to give back a little. The average Division One School profits $6 million per year on basketball and football alone. Consider that, some universities such as the university of Florida or University of Michigan profit more than $10 million per year on their respective athletic programs. At least three college football teams; Michigan, Florida, and Notre Dame, are each worth more than the NFL s Detroit Lions. Today, networks and cable channels pay hundreds of millions of dollars for the right to televise college football games. The Three Major Types Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction There are three major types of weapons of mass destruction and those are nuclear weapons, biological warfare agents, and chemical warfare agents. These weapons share their potential for large scale destruction and the indiscriminate nature of their effects, notably against civilians. WMD s challenges our peace and security here in the United States. There is a strategy for dealing with weapons of mass destructions, and it is the three pillars, which are counter proliferation, nonproliferation, and WMD consequence management. The United States has tried to stop other countries; however, it has gotten to a point that if the United States is attacked with nuclear weapons, then the U.S. will use WMD as a response to the attack. When it comes to weapons of mass destruction in the possession of hostile countries and even terrorists, it is one of the greatest security challenges facing the United States. The first strategy to combat WMD is counter proliferation to combat WMD use, counter proliferations are fully integrated into the basic doctrines, in trainings, and even equipping of all forces, since it is important for the U.S military and appropriate agencies to be prepared to deter and defend against any possible WMD event. With strengthened nonproliferation to combat WMD proliferation, in order to prevent states from acquiring WMD and missiles, we must enhance diplomacy, arms control, multilateral agreements, threat reduction assistance, and export controls. That is to slow and make it more costly to access sensitive technologies, materials, and expertise. In addition, the laws and treaties that are consistently violated by Iran for years, are the treaty of the non profeliration of nuclear weapons, because they developed a nuclear program that is without the consent of the IAEA. They also has held into chemical agents and acculturated their chemical stockpile. In the other hand, North Korea has yet to give up its nuclear weapons, and North Korea has violated the obligations to the IAEA, by actively developing nuclear weapons. Address the culture. An organizations culture is a mix of shared values, standards, and beliefs that are framed by the founders of the business. Rather than attempting to change this culture, managers must look for elements of the culture that align to the change, bring them to the foreground, and attract the attention of the employees who will be affecting the change. Begin at the top. Effective change management activity starts with the top level managers who agree that change is needed and that are fully supported by the head of the organization. Senior level managers must act as one cohesive and committed team, employees will follow their example. Involve everyone. Change occurs remarkably easier when all levels of employees are included early on in the change process. Employees who are responsible for actually doing the work are the ones in the best position to identify areas where potential pitfalls exists, are in contact with the customers and will know how they may respond to the change, and have the power to make or break the change activity.
