This training will cover writing a blog entry for EPA's "Greenversations" blog (http://bog.epa.gov) such as what we look for, writing style, length, and in general how the blog works, and what a blog is not (it's not, for example, regurgitating fact sheets or programmatic information as posted on epa.gov).

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read Chapter 5: Water, in Turk and Bensel’s Contemporary Environmental Issues textbook (2014). In this week’s class discussion, you will participate in a debate over the issue of water privatization. This issue regards whether or not private corporations should be allowed to own and control fresh drinking water supplies. Should safe drinking water be considered a basic human right (owned by everyone), or a commodity (to be managed by corporations)? There are a number of pro and con arguments on both sides. For an overview of this issue, please watch Liquid Assets: The Big Business of Water (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., starting with Segment 13, “Chile’s Commercialized View of Water,” and watch the remaining 15 minutes on this topic. For full access to this video please use Films on Demand through the Ashford Library.
For our debate, there will need to be two sides: pro (supporting water privatization) and con (opposed to water privatization). Your side is determined by the following:
If your last name begins with the letter A through K, you will be arguing the pro side.
If your last name begins with the letter L through Z, you will be arguing the con side.
In a well-crafted discussion post of at least 200 words, first clearly identify your assigned side in the debate. Then provide at least three clearly worded, concise arguments for your side of the debate. Providing specific examples to support your arguments will aid in making them stronger. You should cite and reference at least two credible or scholarly sources in your post, using correct APA format.

A Carbon-Neutral Community Plan for Ashfordton [WLO: 1] [CLOs: 3, 4, 6]
Imagine that you are a resident of Ashfordton, a community whose characteristics are described below. You have come together with your neighbors for a special meeting to devise a plan for helping the community become carbon-neutral by 2050, meaning that by that time, no net carbon dioxide emissions will be produced by residents as a whole.
Fortunately, you have all showed up to the meeting with lots of knowledge you gained from your readings in this course. Now it is time to put your thinking cap on and get to work! Your plan should consist of the following elements:
Energy conservation measures (e.g., promoting carpooling by adding special lanes to local highways)
Steps to move toward sustainable energy production (e.g., installing solar panels on town government buildings)
Reducing energy consumption will help, but some actions will have to involve switching to other power sources for buildings and vehicles as well.
This week’s discussion will take place in an online app called “Tricider.” There, you will be able to post your ideas for plan components and also share pros and cons of different proposals during the week. Finally, you will be able to vote on what you think should be in the plan.
For directions on how to use the Tricider app, please review the Tricider Help GuidePreview the document. In Tricider, you will be expected to do the following:

(I would take out the very general first sentence. It doesn’t seem to belong with the rest of your paper. You can introduce Nathan right away.)

Do you want to say that your experience is different? But give examples, too.
That same paragraph ends with the idea of using computers, which I didn’t understand. How does it belong in the paragraph?)

(Your conclusion does offer a new idea, but it is so optimistic (Americans and international students each continue to learn about each other’s cultures and their own), that is does not seem to match your paper. Your paper suggested, like Nathan’s chapter, that American’s don’t care so much about countries outside the U.S., that they don’t want to learn about other cultures! So I wonder which you really believe—the body of your paper or the conclusion?)

You have a good beginning that introduces Nathan and tells the reader about her student interviews. But I still would like your intro to name which 1 or 2 points from Nathan you are going to address in your paper and what you want to say about those points. A thesis statement is useful for telling the reader these things. One student in our class did it this way: she wrote, “Like Nathan’s students, I was shocked at how little American students know about other cultures and disappointed to realize that they didn’t care much about learning.” (So now we know her opinion: she was shocked and disappoin.

Two more weeks left to go for this course! Just a few reminders for your final paper, make sure that you include a short introduction and a conclusion. The introduction should start off with a sentence that grabs the reader’s attention. You should include a section that lets the reader know what to expect in the rest of the paper, or the questions you will be addressing. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis or purpose of the paper. The conclusion should begin with a restatement of the purpose or thesis statement and synthesize the main points of your paper in the conclusion.
Also, in your paper, when you state your ideas or arguments you should follow those up with citations of support from a credible source, and try to avoid websites like Investopedia, or Wikipedia. Make sure to include the citation (Author, year, page or paragraph number). If you are beginning to work on your final papers make sure you review the student guide for the requirements such as your paper should be 10 – 12 pages long not including the title page and reference pages. The main question you will be addressing is: What role should the local governments provide with regard to alternative solutions or reduction in development impact fees given the positive externality that is provided by these new developments? It is highly suggested you use heading to enhance the organization of your paper and that you cover all of the topics. A highly recommended outline:
· Introduction.
· Compare and contrast the options that the local governments will need to discuss given the lack of resources that are currently available.
· Evaluation of the environmental impacts that can occur with new developments and review of the legal ramifications that can arise.
· Presentation of case examples.
Compare and contrast the different market effects of development impact fees on the market in your paper.
· Conclusion.

The Culture Divide
Prepare: For those with little understanding of the role of journalists in our society, the profession could be seen through a very small lens of one that is simply about reporting the facts. We are finding that cultural journalism is quite popular among citizen journalists and those in community newsrooms who possess the time and interest to discover the connections. A reflective essay expresses an opinion on an issue and supports it with strong arguments and relevant
information. This essay is done to share material with your audience and to solidify your own views on the
topic that you have selected. Think about its construction this way, that if you are looking into a mirror.
The first thing you probably see is yourself looking back at you. Keep looking though and you’ll also see
what’s behind you. Writing a reflective essay is similar to looking into a mirror except that instead of
seeing objects reflected in the room behind you, you “see” reflections of a past experience. The most
important factor to remember in writing a reflective essay is that your opinions and conclusions should
directly relate to the experiences you examine in the essay body.
Following is the rubric which will be used to assess this course’s essays:
Essay 1 should identify the environmental issue, from your home region, outlining the problem and its root
causes and consequence from a systems perspective. In this essay the system connection with both the

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read Chapter 5: Water, in Turk and Bensel’s Contemporary Environmental Issues textbook (2014). In this week’s class discussion, you will participate in a debate over the issue of water privatization. This issue regards whether or not private corporations should be allowed to own and control fresh drinking water supplies. Should safe drinking water be considered a basic human right (owned by everyone), or a commodity (to be managed by corporations)? There are a number of pro and con arguments on both sides. For an overview of this issue, please watch Liquid Assets: The Big Business of Water (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., starting with Segment 13, “Chile’s Commercialized View of Water,” and watch the remaining 15 minutes on this topic. For our debate, there will need to be two sides: pro (supporting water privatization) and con (opposed to water privatization). Your side is determined by the following:
If your last name begins with the letter A through K, you will be arguing the pro side.
If your last name begins with the letter L through Z, you will be arguing the con side.
In a well-crafted discussion post of at least 200 words, first clearly identify your assigned side in the debate. A Carbon-Neutral Community Plan for Ashfordton [WLO: 1] [CLOs: 3, 4, 6]
Imagine that you are a resident of Ashfordton, a community whose characteristics are described below. You have come together with your neighbors for a special meeting to devise a plan for helping the community become carbon-neutral by 2050, meaning that by that time, no net carbon dioxide emissions will be produced by residents as a whole.
Fortunately, you have all showed up to the meeting with lots of knowledge you gained from your readings in this course. Now it is time to put your thinking cap on and get to work! Your plan should consist of the following elements:
Energy conservation measures (e.g., promoting carpooling by adding special lanes to local highways)
Steps to move toward sustainable energy production (e.g., installing solar panels on town government buildings)
Reducing energy consumption will help, but some actions will have to involve switching to other power sources for buildings and vehicles as well.
This week’s discussion will take place in an online app called “Tricider.” There, you will be able to post your ideas for plan components and also share pros and cons of different proposals during the week. Finally, you will be able to vote on what you think should be in the plan.

But I still would like your intro to name which 1 or 2 points from Nathan you are going to address in your paper and what you want to say about those points. A thesis statement is useful for telling the reader these things. One student in our class did it this way: she wrote, “Like Nathan’s students, I was shocked at how little American students know about other cultures and disappointed to realize that they didn’t care much about learning.” (So now we know her opinion: she was shocked and disappoin.

Two more weeks left to go for this course! Just a few reminders for your final paper, make sure that you include a short introduction and a conclusion. The introduction should start off with a sentence that grabs the reader’s attention. You should include a section that lets the reader know what to expect in the rest of the paper, or the questions you will be addressing. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis or purpose of the paper. The conclusion should begin with a restatement of the purpose or thesis statement and synthesize the main points of your paper in the conclusion.
Also, in your paper, when you state your ideas or arguments you should follow those up with citations of support from a credible source, and try to avoid websites like Investopedia, or Wikipedia. Make sure to include the citation (Author, year, page or paragraph number). If you are beginning to work on your final papers make sure you review the student guide for the requirements such as your paper should be 10 – 12 pages long not including the title page and reference pages. The main question you will be addressing is: What role should the local governments provide with regard to alternative solutions or reduction in development impact fees given the positive externality that is provided by these new developments? It is highly suggested you use heading to enhance the organization of your paper and that you cover all of the topics. A highly recommended outline:
· Introduction.
· Compare and contrast the options that the local governments will need to discuss given the lack of resources that are currently available.
· Evaluation of the environmental impacts that can occur with new developments and review of the legal ramifications that can arise.
· Presentation of case examples.
Compare and contrast the different market effects of development impact fees on the market in your paper.
· Conclusion.

A reflective essay expresses an opinion on an issue and supports it with strong arguments and relevant
information. This essay is done to share material with your audience and to solidify your own views on the
topic that you have selected. Think about its construction this way, that if you are looking into a mirror.
The first thing you probably see is yourself looking back at you. Keep looking though and you’ll also see
what’s behind you. Writing a reflective essay is similar to looking into a mirror except that instead of
seeing objects reflected in the room behind you, you “see” reflections of a past experience. The most

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:
- A fully editable and extendable library for grid component modelling;
- Visualization tools to display your network;
- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;
The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
