This document provides instructions for setting up a virtual router on a Windows PC to share an ExpressVPN connection. It involves using the command prompt to enable hosting, create a virtual router with an SSID and password, start the hosted network, share the connection, and then connecting to ExpressVPN which will route all traffic through the VPN. Once set up, any WiFi devices can connect to the virtual router to securely access the internet through the VPN connection.

1. HOW TO CONNECT

3. Set up a VPN-enabled virtual router
 To setup VPN-enabled virtual router open the command window and right click on Run as
administrator.
 In the command prompt, type the “netsh wlan show drivers” and press Enter.
 If it is displayed “Hosted network supported : Yes”, then your network adapter can create a
virtual router.

 If you don’t see this message, then you may need to update your network adapter drivers.

5. Create Virtual Router
 In the command prompt, type the “netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow
ssid=NETWORKNAME key=PASSWORD”
Name your virtual router :
ssid=name for your network
key=password for your network

6. Start virtual router
 To start your virtual router, type the following ”netsh wlan start hostednetwork” and
Press Enter.

7. Share your virtual router
 Open the “Run” prompt by pressing Windows + R.
 Type “ncpa.cpl“, then press OK.

8.  In the Network Connections window, you should now see your new Wi-Fi
connection in your list of network adapters.
 Now look for a network connection with the description “Express VPN Tap
Adapter”.
 Right-click on it and select Properties.

9.  In the Properties window, click the Sharing tab and check the box for Allow other network
users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection.
 Under “Home networking connection”, select your created virtual router from the drop-
down menu and then click OK.

10. Connect to Express VPN
 Launch the Express VPN app and connect to the server of your choice using the
Open VPN protocol.
 Now your Windows PC is a virtual router.
 Now you can connect any Wi-Fi-enabled device to your new virtual router and share
your VPN connection.
