This document provides an analogy to explain the process of setting up an e-learning system like Moodle. It compares the process to building a house: 1. Registering a domain name is like choosing the street address or location for the house. This needs to be paid for annually. 2. Paying for web hosting is like preparing the land and constructing the building, with costs depending on storage size. 3. Hiring a web designer to decorate the site is like decorating the house. 4. A system administrator installs and configures the e-learning software like Moodle, safeguarding the site, similar to a role in constructing the house. 5.

2. • Ever thought of using E leaning?
• Here is the plan:-
• Consider it like Building your own House

3. • First select the area ( This is the street address
• Or location address – Registering a domain
name URL like http://www.webcourse.in)
• This is charged per annum and you have to
renew it annually. You have to choose address
which is not occupied by someone else. ( Or
buy it from the occupier )

4. • Next you have to prepare the land and
construct the building. ( This is like paying for
web server and hosting company . Depending
on size from MB to GB they charge you
annually)
• In most cases the domain registration and
hosting is done by one agency but you can opt
for separate.

5. • Then you have to decorate the house. ( This is
done by web designers ) Depending on the
facilities you want the charges very.
• This is a very important technical person as
he is going to install and configure your
MOODLE or other software. He will also
safeguard your site . Like a system
administrator.

6. • So far your role as a Medical Teacher was minimal
but now onwards its your show.
• Its like using a car. You need not know how it is
manufactured or how changing gears changes
the speed etc. But you must know different
controls of the car. You should have enough fuel
to go , you must know your destination and route
to it , and whom to take as passenger and when
and where to drop each one.

7. Role play
• Next comes the Role of Course Manager
• Like HOD or Dean academics he will plan the
topic, timetable ( start and end date),no of hrs
or lecture schedules. Rotation of students.

8. • Next is the role of teacher. This is divided into
teachers who can create, edit or modify the
contents of the course ( usually seniors) and
teachers who cant alter the content but will
execute the course.
• Role of teacher is very important. It is broadly
divided into two subgroups. Creating
Resource Material and Creating Activity.
• And then supervising these activities.

9. • Next comes the role of Student.
• Each student has separate logging and all his
activates are recorded. Students are enrolled
into course and at the end removed so that
new students can be enrolled. This can be
done by self enrollment or Batch enrollment
as per settings.( the batch is called Cohorts)
• They can participate in individual as well as
group activity.

10. • At the end you can take feed back from them.
• Different grading systems can be planned and
results can be conveyed to stakeholders.
• The last Role is of a guest. You can allow guest
into the course or part of the course.( Like
parent can see Schedule of course etc)

learning system works.
