How Technology will Destroy the
World
By: Owen Dubar and Daniel Larkin
Introduction
• Technology in itself has many pros and cons
but, if we keep doing what were doing we will
soon have no place left to call home.
• Topics
• Cars
• Weapons & Bombs
• Medication technology
• Communication and Travel
How Cars destroy the planet
• With the increase in use of internal
combustion engines comes the increase in
congestion, raise in the demand for oil, worse
air pollution, and an increase in emissions of a
variety of greenhouse gases, including
methane, ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrous
oxide and most important CO2.
Cars continued
• World wide cars produce well over 900 metric
tons of CO2 every year.
• These emissions account for more than 15% of
global fossil fuel CO2 releases.
• Every year there are over 30,000 automobile
crashes ending in fatality, a trend that has
been carrying on for decades.
Weapons & Bombs
• Weaponry has been a major cause in the
destruction of many things on earth.
• In WW1 there was around 16 million
deaths, in WW2 there was over 60 million
deaths. This increase is due to the
advancement of weaponry and the use of
carpet bombing and nuclear bombs.
Weapons cont.
• Technology has dominated warfare since the
early 1900’s, and an astounding 190 million
people may have been killed during the 25
biggest conflicts of the 20th century. The
future battlefield might also extend to space,
with orbiting arsenals and high- altitude aero-
space planes.
Medical Advancement
• Medical advancement through technology has
led to the increase in life expectancy.
• Since the 1920 the average life expectancy has
increased for men from 59 to 79 and for
women from 61 to 83.
Medicine cont.
• With the new advancement in the medical
fields through technology we are now able to
better diagnose, treat and operate on things
that were not possible before. Doctors can
now make more personalized plans and
treatments for patients that better serve them
and their recovery.
Travel
• Technological advances have given us the
freedom to travel around the world and see
things that without technology we would
never be able to see. The plane, train and
automobile allow people to travel across great
distances with ease and at speeds one would
simply not be able to do on foot.
Travel Cont.
• Travel allows us to see other people, species
and terrain.
• It allows doctors to find new ingredients for
medicine
• And it lets us find new resources to better us
as people and as a society.
Videos
• Here are a few videos going over the
advantages and disadvantages of technology
in todays society.
Air pollution
Technologies of tomorrow
Conclusion
• Technology affects our lives in many positive
and negative ways. In the end it comes down
to us as a people to determine whether we
will let technology destroy us or improve us.
As long as we are responsible and smart with
the way we use technology it shouldn’t
destroy the earth but improve it.
