How Search Engine Marketing Works:
Anthony Morrison Explains All about Search Engine Marketing
Search engine marketing also known as SEM is an important part of internet marketing. Internet
marketing is defined as a process with the help of which you generate impressions on your target
customers. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is defined as process of indexing and arranging websites in
an ascending order on search engines. All search engines including Google, Yahoo, and Bing come in this
category.
How SEM Works:
The process of indexing is quite common. It has evolved with passing times. In 2005, Google claimed
that they have more than 18 billion pages ranked. Probably Google has lost its count now. With such an
increased number of indexed web pages, it was hard to distinguish which websites were genuine and
which websites offer scam, plagiarized and keyword abused content.
At the time when internet was still a toddler, Pew Internet & American Life Project and ComScore
collectively launched a research on number of researchers. The study was quite revealing; they found out
that percentage of search users is almost equal to that of email users. This study was conducted in 2005.
If this was the case in 2005, today the number of searchers is even higher. To cater with the situation,
Google has been evolving its ways of indexing pages. Spider, paid advertisements and Directories are one
of the oldest ways of indexing pages on Google. However, these ways does not prevent spam surfacing.
In fact, many websites made their policy to provide unrealistic, fake, unauthentic and plagiarized content.
They filled their websites with third rate, keyword spammed contents, thereby pushing genuine websites
in search engine indexing on the back track.
Arrival of algorithms like Panda, Penguin and other policies has somehow restricted this practice. Now
the Spider not just crawls through the pages, Panda and Penguin make sure that the websites with original
content and more creativity comes on top of ranking pages. We can expect more positive steps from
Google because the developmental process is still going on.
Important Factors and Aspects of SEM:
According to Anthony Morrison, SEM works in a way that is unique to it. There are hundreds of search
engines, Google being the giant and lead follows with Yahoo and Bing. All these have different policies.
However, the actual battle is to find top position on top three.
Anthony Morrison is an internet marketer who uses out of the box strategies to promote businesses. He
owns 20 companies. He is a successful entrepreneur with a million dollar business. Anthony is also
famous due to his well-managed video blog and online forum. He also runs infomercial series on local US
television channels. Let us see what he has to say on search engine marketing.
Spiders:
Almost all of the search engines use spiders. It is a technical word used for robot software that crawls into
a website. The spiders go deep into the website, search and examine all of the pages. It then provides
suggestions to the search engine, say Google. The search engine then indexes pages as per content
displayed. In the years 2012 and 2013, Google provided twist in to its spidering policy. Algorithms like
Panda have changed the face of indexing completely.
Directories:
Directories were most like bundles of related articles. Usually articles are submitted manually. Once there
were spam articles submitted in bulk. Now the policy for directories has also changed.
Banner Ads:
These are used to generate traffic. Although they have never been too much popular, they have generated
good results.
Mailing Lists/ Newsletters/ RSS:
These are opt in processes, excellent to convey messages to prospective audience.
Sponsorship:
Sponsorship of a website provides more than just showing your ads. You can also get the pride of
showing:"sponsored by" option.
Google Paid Ads:
Google paid ads are those that appear on top of the search results. Every search engine has different rules
governing paid ads.
