Historical conservationist Chase Pipes finds and helps disseminate historical artifacts in Tennessee and all over the world. The host of the YouTube channel Chasing History and the radio show Chasing History Radio, Chase Pipes uses these avenues to highlight the men and women in the field working to uncover history. Mr. Pipes focuses on dinosaur fossils, which can be difficult to conserve. However, new photogrammetry modeling techniques have made great strides in their conservation. In photogrammetry, three-dimensional pictures are used to create virtual models. This technique involves no contact with the items and relies on photographic data alone to create the models. Models include the texture, size, shape, and details of the digitized items. The models allow paleontologists to transfer, share, and view fossils and other delicate items without coming into contact with the original pieces. Further, objects can be arranged in configurations that help paleontologists understand how the objects may have originated and fit together.
