Golden Rice has been bred to contain higher levels of vitamin A which could help reduce vitamin A deficiency in developing countries. Testing of Golden Rice varieties suitable for Asia began in late 2006 following breeding work. If biosafety requirements are met, Golden Rice varieties could be more widely grown in Asia within a few years.
