Rice in Bihar is grown approximately on 5.3 million hectares, covering 605 of the net Cropped area of
the state. Agriculture is the dominant sector of the state economy,where 825 population is directly
dependent on it.
Aromatic rice are grown mainly in Bhagalpur and Magadh division. varities grown are katarani, Tulsi
Manjari , Badshaho , Karibank, Maureya, Mehijawain, Shyamjira,Tulsi Phool, Sonachur
And Shah pasand.their yield vary from 2.0-2.5t/ha.All land races of aromatic type grown in Bihar have
fine but short grain and Consequently of low export values.
Sugandha: it is photosensitive with medium slender grain having good cooking quality.
Height is 145-150cm and matures in 160-165 days, giving an average yield of 25-30 q/ha. Grain length is
4.50mm
