Horror trailer evaluation powerpoint
1.
2. Horror conventions used in
my horror trailer
Rational – During the making of this horror trailer I would think
that it was a more difficult process than I had expected. First of all
we came up with many different stories such as a news reporter
killing people to save her job and getting more stories in to her
agencies. But then deciding on how we are going to get actors, what
settings to use and finding how complex it had become to film.
Then we changed our story to a more postmodern film because we
through it would be less complex to do. After careful consideration,
we had come to a conclusion that this trailer would be about ‘a
group of students going out and filming our horror trailer and the
teacher being the one wanting to kill everyone (a horror film within
a horror film). It’s is a self referential idea of the trailer’s narrative
as it’s exactly about our real life A2 media task (going out to film a
horror trailer). It’s creating humour which could be argued that it’s
linked to a postmodern approach.
3. Behind this trailer would be a postmodernist approach as it’s knowing the rules and
breaking them down doing it in an unknowing way. For example, my research had
helped me identify how a horror trailer makes it a postmodern film. I.e. The horror film
Scary movie is based on a postmodern idea, as it’s a comedy of a modern world but
still displays all the codes and convections of a horror trailer such as blood, fear, knifes
etc. Another example would be Shaun the dead, where it’s a comedy but includes the
essential horror conventions of blood and gore and zombies, making it a horror at the
same time but in a modern world of the 20th century.
Our trailer was refer to a feminist perspective and get the Promiscuous girl killed first
due to the fact a female is seen as a more vulnerable character. This was decided after
careful research of other horror films which displayed this such as ‘scary film’
4. My target audience would be aimed at the ages of 15-
25, teenagers and adults. I had created a public survey
done by people in between the ages on 15-25 year olds.
My audience feed back taught me that final results
showed that...
5. Title of film – Coming up with a title for the trailer was
challenging for us as it had to relate to the narrative. The first title
we had come up with was ‘The New Girl’ as there was a new girl
joining the college who is the main victim in the trailer. We also
did this to present Prop’s theory of characters as the ‘new girl’ is
the ‘final girl’ as the main actor turns out to be (the
hero/princess). However over time we had realised that our title
wouldn’t be as attracting towards a horror genre. So therefore we
had come up with more ideas and decided to call our trailer
‘Deadline’ as it fit perfectly with the narrative of the horror trailer.
To secure this, I had decided to get some views from my target
audience buy simply asking them the question; ‘which horror film
title would attract you the most’. My results showed that
‘deadline’ would be a more attractive title to a horror film towards
my targeted audience.
6. What film title was prefered to my target audience.
