Where horror films where first was originated The first horror movie originated from a very imaginative French director named Georges Melies , the film was titled Le Manoir Du Diable which translated into ‘ The Haunted castle’. The short two minute film contained the most old school horror characters such as Vampires, flying bats and ghosts. In the 18th and 19th century vampires began to emerge in popular fiction, which is when a Anglo-Irish writer Bram Stoker created his 1897 vampire novel Dracula. It is the most popular vampire based piece of writing and has influenced many of the modern horror films.
- 2. 1960’s Horror Pre in 1960’s horror films consisted of the typical antagonists of ghosts, vampires and monsters but in the 1960’s the movies became more human based and became the antagonist as well as the protagonist ,we saw this in films like the Psychco this scares the audience more as they are use to monsters and vampires being evil but to see a human being the antagonist frightened the audience as anyone could be evil not just disfigured monsters. More films like this are twisted nerve and carnival of souls.
- 3. Modern day horror films In modern day horror films the main thing that scares us is the unknown. If we don’t know what the antagonist is un till the end, or we don’t know the history or nature of the person/creature we are more scared. Examples are the Texas Chainsaw Massacre as we don’t know anything about the family or why leather face hides his face. Many horrors leave us confused which attracts our attention for an sequels such as saw.
