This document summarizes an occupational health internship project with day laborers. The objectives were to understand day laborers through literature review and interviews, identify health and safety risks, and promote safety. Background information found day laborers are predominantly young Latino immigrants performing high-risk jobs like construction and landscaping. Workers often face abuse like wage theft and unsafe conditions. Studies found day laborers have high injury rates. The project methods included literature review, meetings, and ethnographic research including interviews and site visits. Key findings included workers recognizing hazards but lacking protective equipment and training from employers. A case study highlighted eye irritation from paint exposure. Recommendations included mentorship and further research on reporting behaviors and access to healthcare.
