This document provides information and advice for ALTs (Assistant Language Teachers) and JTLs (Japanese Teachers of English) working together in Japan. It discusses some of the challenges they may face due to cultural differences and misunderstandings. It presents three hypothetical cases involving interpersonal issues and provides lessons learned. The overall message is that ALTs and JTLs should communicate openly, be understanding of cultural differences, address issues directly but professionally, and view challenges as learning opportunities. Getting to know each other as individuals beyond cultural stereotypes is emphasized. Regular meetings and clear expectations are advised to facilitate collaboration.
